1) Darfur Effort Said to Face Collapse.
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/051906R.shtml
Jan Egeland, the chief United Nations aid coordinator, told the Security Council today that conditions in Darfur have deteriorated so drastically that the international assistance effort there faces collapse in weeks.
2) Chad-Sudan Emergency: Progress and Setbacks.
http://www.unrefugees.org/emergency.cfm
On May 5, the government of Sudan and the main rebel group in Darfur signed a peace accord calling for the end of hostilities in the region.  The agreement brings a ray of hope to the victims of this horrific crisis, most of whom are women and children.
3) On April 30, we made history when over 75,000 of us mobilized to stop the genocide in Darfur.

The day after the rallies in Washington D.C. and around the country, President Bush sent a top State Department official to Abuja, Nigeria, to pressure the Sudanese government and rebels to sign a peace agreement and to allow more peacekeepers into the field to stop the murders, rapes and burning of villages.

Since the rallies, I’ve received hundreds of e-mails from people asking for my advice about what they can do next.

One of the actions I’m recommending is that people make a donation to the AJWS Sudan Relief and Advocacy Fund.

Our Sudan Relief and Advocacy Fund provides vital humanitarian assistance for the people of Darfur, including:

  • Food aid – more essential than ever because the World Food Program has been forced to cut in half its emergency rations for three million people in Darfur;
  • Life-saving surgery, vaccination campaigns and urgent health care for people in both Darfur and Chad;
  • Emergency health services for victims of gender-based violence, as well as pre- and post-natal care;
  • Primary education for girls and “safe space” projects for children and teenagers living in camps.
Change is beginning to happen – but the peace agreement is fragile and there is still a long road ahead. Until all parties sign on and the agreement goes into full effect, and until the Janjaweed is disarmed and the Security Council authorizes UN peacekeepers to go into Darfur, people remain at risk.

Hey Care2. Where are my 500+ friends? It says I have "none yet" even though I've been a member on here for over 5 & 1/2 years and had well over 500 friends. HELP! Peace, Love and Hope. Keith.
