Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center is a home-based interfaith church. We choose this designation for many reasons, mostly to preserve our freedom. Freedom of religion...and from religion...is very important to us. We believe in the right to believe as we individually believe, without threat or restriction of any kind. so long, of course, as we practice in love and reverence for life, causing no harm.
Wars have been fought for religious freedom. Countries have been formed and others destroyed. People have been persecuted, imprisoned, burned at the stake for practicing religious beliefs contrary to what the State deems appropriate and loyal to the local rule. The Church and the State were one. To deny the power of the Church was heresy, and often considered to be traitorous. Many, many people have been put to death for this crime.
The Catholics burned Protestants at the Stake. The Protestants burned anyone suspected of being a witch. Even in modern day history, look at what was done to the Jews. Native peoples have been forced to become Christian upon threat of death. There is still much violence over religion today. We may think it's a thing of the past, but it's not.
America, for instance, was supposedly founded for the purpose of religious freedom. It started with the British wanting to break away from the Church of England, and to live somewhere that the Bible could be read and interpreted as each individual saw fit. But then, once they got here, they forced the Native Americans to deny their own faith, and many Christians today are quite intolerant of anyone's views but their own. Violent acts, of course fall into this category, but we must also consider the hateful words which are often expressed towards those of differing views. For examples of what I'm talking about, just look around some discussion threads on the internet regarding topics of comparative religion. There is much intolerance at large. , We want to skip over all that at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center and simply focus on God's healing Love. We believe God is Love, God is Good and God is Life...everywhere present, always available, in everything living, the only True Power there is. Beyond that we don't take a stand on what God actually "IS." God is everything. That is enough! We don't care if people refer to God as Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, Higher Power, Father/Mother God, Great Spirit, Universal Principle, Nature, Muhammad, Jehovah, Yahweh, Allah, Divine Mind, the Man Upstairs, the Great I Am, or anything else that suits your particular beliefs or traditions. God is Love; God is Good; God is Life!
No individual should tell another how to believe, and certainly no government entity! Separation of Church and State is extremely important, for individual freedom is derived from that. Freedom of thoughts should never be an issue for people, but yet people have been, and still are in some places, being put to death for how they believe. Freedom of religion is a basic right we should never take for granted. We stand behind this right as a church, ever defending the right of each of each person to believe the way they believe. As an interfaith church, we hold this right as sacred.
An organization for which I, personally, hold a great deal of respect is that of Alcoholics Anonymous. One of the things I admire so much about them is their use of the phrase "God as you understand Him." A.A. has had unprecedented success due to this one little principle, which isn't so little at all. By allowing each individual their own idea of God, the common purpose may be focused on in an atmosphere of spiritual development for all. A.A. is indeed an extremely spiritual program, yet they have no set definition of God. This is pivotal to its success. A spiritual awakening is the result.
That's what we want to accomplish here. We wish to provide an atmosphere in which spiritual awakenings occur! We want to encourage people to look within their own hearts and find their own sense of God. God is Love. God is Good. God is Life.
Separation of Church and State is important for many reasons. We not only do not want the State to tell us what to believe, we also don't wish for them to tell us how we can practice our beliefs as a church. At Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center we practice the art of healing and teach others to heal using the gifts provided by God to us all. We do not wish interference in conveying and practicing the principles of Love, Goodness and Life. Under State authority a person must be licensed by this State Board or that in order to ....talk about food that God made to nourish our bodies...advise each other that water is healthy to drink and how to use it for wellness...tell others about the healing miracles that occur through the use of herbs...use touch to heal...use much of anything to heal without a medical license...they even expect you to have a license to counsel in order to talk to each other, it seems! Then they want to tell you what it is you can say.
I went to school to do many things. Counseling, addictions work, social work, crisis intervention work, working with families, and many other specialty areas along the way, up to and including natural medicine. I have been licensed under State Boards in the past, and what I found was that the paperwork, the bureaucracy, the requirements, the push towards medication and other methods with which I do not agree always got in the way of truly doing my work. I have been involved in holistic healing study and practice for most of my life, and I believe deeply that the person (or animal) is the one who should be the focus of healing, not the needs of the State.
My interest in healing began in church, and that's where it's rooted for me. I further believe that in holistic healing, which is the only true healing as far as I am concerned, the Spirit is what leads the way. Without the will to live, no efforts can keep you alive. Illness begins in the spirit and then the mind before it reaches the body, and it must be healed in this way for the healing to be complete. I have been a minister for many years, and this is the point from which I choose to do my work. Healing is between the individual and God. I enjoy teaching others how to make use of God's healing gifts, directed at healing the spirit, the mind and the body, all three.
God gave us soooo many gifts for our healing. Our bodies are the temple of God! God placed us in an environment perfectly suited to meet our physical needs. Otherwise we'd have gone extinct long ago. The air, the water, the earth, the plants, the colors, the aroma, the love of each other, the healing power of movement, touch, rest, laughter and tears...the ability to choose healing thoughts, words and deeds...these are the types of gifts I am talking about! God gave healing gifts to us all!
As a church, free from State rule, we are able to share our knowledge and experience with using these gifts. We believe it is our God-given duty and right to help others realize their healing birthright and to openly share of these gifts. The State should not interfere. Separation of Church and State allows us to participate openly in the practice God-centered healing rather than...or in addition to, our choice...medical practices governed by State. Practices licensed by State have their own set of rules. We are separate from that. We are under the rule of God as we understand God to be. God is Love; God is Good; God is Life. We are answerable only to that.
Some people think that separation of Church and State takes something away from us, but it doesn't. Actually what it does is give us freedom and it denies them power to tell us how to believe, how to practice our beliefs and which beliefs are acceptable to them. Separation of Church and State allows us the freedom to form our own relationship with the Healing Power that we know as God.
Take the instance of public schools...separation of Church and State prohibits teachers from giving their own personal opinion to your children as fact in matters of faith, and it prohibits them from interfering with how your children believe. It allows you to be the teacher in this regard and not them. If you want a teacher to instruct your children in spiritual matters, then you seek that type of education out according to your own preferences, rather than it just being given to them regardless of what you may wish. It's actually a protection rather than an insult. It's the exact opposite of an insult, in fact, for it respects the individual's rights and will not permit trespassing on the right to believe as a person sees fit. It gives parents the authority on how their children are raised to believe.
So it is just the same on the level of a church. It gives our church the right to practice and believe and teach what we believe is best, without interference from outside authorities. We are very grateful for this! Let the politicians do their political work and leave the work of healing to the servants of God! We do not do the same kind of work as medical doctors do, so we don't need a license for that. We do not do surgery and we do not recommend drugs. We work with the tools given for healing directly by God. We make use of the Principles of healing which have been in place since the beginning of time! God's healing power has been with us since then.
We pray for the people of the world who are still persecuted for their beliefs, and we work to always be tolerant and understanding of anyone with different beliefs from our own. As an interfaith church we strive to promote understanding and appreciation for each other's beliefs. We can only cover so much, however, because every individual really does have their own way of looking at things, whether they belong to this group or that.
God bless those who are persecuted for how they believe, and God bless those who persecute them, for they do not understand the True Nature of God as Love. May they realize their blessings and no longer feel the need to make everybody conform. We are meant to be different and unique expressions of God!
God have mercy on us who do not understand the Power and Glory of Love.
God have mercy on us who do not understand we are meant to be free.
God have mercy on us who do not believe there is hope. God have mercy
on us who are suffering. God have mercy on us who hurt others. God
have mercy on us who steal, lie, cheat and turn our backs on others in
need. God have mercy on us who are afraid. God have mercy on us who
hate. God have mercy on us who blame. God have mercy on us who do not
believe healing is possible now. God have mercy on us who are weak.
God have mercy on us who are merciless. God have mercy on us all, every
one.
I use the word, "us" in this context because really each
one of these things listed above and much more have been us all at one
time or another in life. When we look at others in their present state,
we need to remember that we, too, have needed mercy, if not before then
quite possibly some day yet ahead. People find themselves in
circumstances they don't ever think they'll be in, and then that's when
they truly find out what they would and wouldn't do. Plus, there are
oftentimes circumstances that others face of which we are quite
unaware. It is foolish, arrogant, thoughtless and self-centered to ever
assume much about someone else, as far as their inner thoughts and true
character go, and certainly anything to do with their "worth."
People...all people...and all creatures for that matter...are worth
everything in the eyes of God. I say this in the belief that God is
Love; God is Good; God is Life. We are all precious and worthy of
God...Worthy of Love, Goodness and Life.
So again I say, mercy on
us all, even those without mercy, even those we think to be less than
ourselves, and mercy on us, for we all are thoughtless, selfish,
self-centered, arrogant, afraid, angry, hurt and confused now and then,
and when we are, our human limitations can become problematic for us,
and we wish for mercy for ourselves and for others for this. These
vehicles called bodies are wonderful in design, as is the transport
system of the mind. It is just that we don't yet quite know how to
"drive," so to speak, and so we're crashing our "vehicles" around.
Goodness have mercy on us. Love have mercy on us. Life have mercy on
us. It is not only "them," it is me. It is not only me, it is us.
We're in this together, you see.
With that being said, have mercy
on others in your thinking of them, as you would ask for mercy on your
own soul. Ask for mercy for those whom you hate, and for yourself for
holding hatred within your heart. Let it go. Let go and let God, and
mercy shall fall upon you. Forgive others and yourself and you are
forgiven of all. You must, however, be willing to forgive everyone
else. As hard as that sounds, stop and think about the forgiveness you
seek for yourself. It's only acted out differently, but essentially we
are all the same. The person who seems the most horrid is the one who
is the most afraid.
This doesn't mean to expose yourself, of
course, not to violence or danger of any kind, or abuse of the body,
spirit or mind. This means to forgive in your heart and not judge
anyone else. Instead, look to whether or not you need to protect
yourself in any way, and then after that, your business is to take care
of your own wrongs you've done, and work to not make so many more. (I
can't say not to make any, because of course you know we all will. It
is okay to make mistakes, the point is to become more aware and try to
make up for our wrongs right away and not make the mistakes of which
we're aware.
Sometimes we're not even aware that we're making a
mistake, because we're still figuring out so many of them. The truth
is that if we were to not make mistakes, our life would be absolutely
perfect from beginning to end, of which of course there wouldn't be
either one, for we are created in the perfect image and likeness of God,
which has not beginning and end. The truth is we make countless
mistakes every day, some of which are extremely hurtful to others or to
ourselves, and sometimes we don't even have any idea what we've done.
Let there be mercy for us. Father forgive us for we know not what we do. Let there be mercy for us, every one.
Let
there be mercy for the murderer, the molester, the torturer, the
criminally insane, the rapist, the executioner, the baby killer, the
enemy, the terrorist, those who are cruel to animals, the
slaughterer...where does it end? It doesn't. Let there be mercy for
the alcoholic, the addict, the adulterer, the prostitute, the
pornographer, the liar, the cheat, the thief, the manipulator, the
swindler, the user, the gossiper, the back-stabber, the mean-spirited
people and those with no thought to anyone else. Let there be mercy for
all.
Let there be mercy for the innocent, too. Let there be
mercy for the weak, the aged, for children and animals. Let there be
mercy for those who are abused, hurt, forgotten, lonely and killed. Let
there be mercy for those who are sick. Each one of us is sick to one
degree or another, or else we would be perfect, as we were created to
be, healthy and whole in body, spirit and mind. But alas, our bodies
die due to lack of living up to what we were created to be. May there
be mercy for us, for death can come too soon, or too painfully long.
Either way, have mercy on us all at that time.
So, we are all in
this together. It is very blurry where one person ends and another
begins, at this time or that time in life. Sometimes the abused becomes
the abuser. Mercy save us from that.
Judge not lest ye be
judged. We are all the same. We are One. May we remember the mercy we
wish for ourselves is the mercy we need to extend to others as well.
May we all pray to be merciful beings in our prayers for God's mercy for
us.
We do not know what others have been through to bring them to the point they are at. God have mercy on us for judging and not having compassion for them.
Have mercy on those who have wronged us, and have mercy on us for holding resentment inside of our heart. Unforgiveness is what keeps us the sickest. It will keep us
even sicker than wrong eating will. God is Love, and to expect God to
work through us without allowing for love is like asking that we be
hydrated without any liquid. We must allow the Love to flow through in
order for us to be healed.
God IS Love. So to hold love out of
our heart is to bar the door to God. Remember also that God is Good,
and so what I am saying is to hold Love out of our heart is to hold back
the Good. Remember, too, God is Life. How could we possibly expect to
be healthy if we deny Love in our heart?
Sounds simple, I know,
but the truest principles in life are based on simplicity. All of
nature in its complexities and wonders is based on simplicity. We are
no different from that.
We are one with all of nature. We are
one with each other. We're one with God. Until we realize our Oneness
completely, we will feel the pain of separation. We ask for mercy in
this.
We ask for mercy for destroying so much of our environment, our bodies, the earth, the air, the wildlife, our neighbors, our food supply, our water supply and we have put the future of our planet and coming generations at risk. We ask for mercy in this.
We ask not only for mercy, but also for many blessings to
be bestowed upon us, our neighbors, our enemies, everyone...for again,
we are all one. Bless us all. May we find peace, freedom and true
healing in this.
Thank you, oh merciful God. May I express this
same mercy to others as I am asking to be shown to me. May I also stand
up for the rights of those who cannot fight for mercy themselves. Let
the Love in my heart heal the world!
The principles of healing are the same from individual to individual, but everyone's needs are a little bit different. This is YOUR life we're talking about!
What a person's heredity is indicates their tendency (not a forgone conclusion) to need added support in this area or that, as does their exposure to chemicals on a daily basis or in large amounts in the past, their lifestyle, their stress level, their particular eating and exercise habits, how much sleep they get, how much water they drink, what they tend to focus their attention on throughout the day, unresolved issues of grief or loss, accidents, surgeries organ removals, medications...these all have an effect on someone's health, and also what they are and aren't willing or able to do to improve their current level of health. (You see, a lot of people want change but they don't want to do anything differently. It usually doesn't work quite that way!)
It does no good to make a health plan if it will not be followed. Things that might get in the way include inconvenience, cost, taste, time involved, addiction, not understanding the program or fear.
I have worked with hundreds of people in my work as a doctor of naturopathy. Every single person was different! Their needs and also what will work best for each one. Like I said, though, certain principles do remain the same. Some of these are:
The body knows how to heal.
The body is working to heal itself now.
Nature supports natural healing.
Artificial substances and methods designed to overpower and control the body in an artificial manner to force specific reactions interfere with the body's natural healing response.
The body will heal itself once the cause is removed and the basic elements of life are provided, i.e., adequate water, proper nourishment, air, exercise, rest. The proper use of light, sound and color are extremely helpful, and a little prayer and love goes a very, very long way.
You can't fool Mother Nature. Spiritual ignorance may be bliss and those who don't know any better are covered in grace, but physical consequences are not so forgiving and ignorance of the law is no excuse. There are natural laws at play such as physiological laws, cause and effect, etc.
There are myths that need to be dispelled in order for healing to best occur, for it is very important to know what you believe. Whatsoever ye ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. So first, let's look at a few Truths vs. Myths.
Myth: It costs a lot of money to take a natural healing approach.
Truth: It can cost as little as going outside to pick a few dandelions before every meal, or learning to meditate upon awakening each day, or to substitute healthy foods for junk foods in your shopping cart. (Yes, that means take the potato chips out and put in organic apples instead...pound per pound you'll get a lot more from the apples regardless of what the price tag says!) Natural healing does not need to be expensive to work well for you.
Even when purchasing the highest quality herbs, an entire program is only $1-5 dollars or less a day. No, insurance won't cover it, but that's because you're using health products instead of toxic drugs. It's not at all the same thing, so using free drugs does not replace using herbs. In other words, the drugs aren't necessarily a better choice economically, especially considering the costs of the side effects, deductibles and loss of health that frequently accompanies drugs. The side effects from herbs are usually side benefits, not negative but positive effects in addition to what they were used for. Any seemingly negative effects are most often a cleansing reaction, indicating the body is already overloaded with toxins which the herbs work to start clearing out. Side effects are mild and short lasting with herbs.
Myth: Vitamins and minerals are superior to herbs.
Truth: Herbs contain more complete forms of vitamins and minerals and are more easily used by the body. Herbs are food. Real food. It is always better to get direct from the source. If using vitamins, however, it is very important they're natural and not synthetic. Synthetic vitamins do more harm than good. Inorganic minerals are the same way. Minerals should come from the plant. We're not meant to eat rocks and dirt.
Myth: Modern medicines are more advanced in their effectiveness.
Truth: Really? Look at the numbers again, keeping in mind side effects, toxicities, nutrient depletion, addiction, medical or user error and hospital mistakes and infections. Statistics show we're better off treating ourselves! Of course, we have to know how, or else we're putting ourselves at risk when a response to the body's needs are required. That's what this lesson is all about. Making your OWN customized plan! In other words, it's up to you to know what your body needs!
Myth: The doctors know best.
Truth: God knows best! (God IS Life!) Medical doctors are trained in drug medicines, surgery and....and....hmmm....not very much else. They have no or very little training in herbs, nutrition, breathing, meditation, exercise, addiction, exercise, spirituality, stress management and numerous other topics of interest to us in bringing about natural health. It's simply not what they're trained to do! They're trained to give drugs and perform surgery. That's it. Unless of course they take an interest themselves and delve into some of these other areas or specialize in something related. Still, though, a medical doctor will take a medical approach, which is basically surgery or drugs. So if you want to know about other things, you need to ask someone besides your M.D. Your M.D. is the person to speak to regarding drugs, surgery, and anything that has to do with any medical program you might be considering or currently on.
Myth: Herbs are dangerous.
Truth: You need to have a basic understanding of herbs before you go picking and eating things you don't know about, but eating what rabbits eat is generally safe. Take a guidebook alo ng to accurately identify anything you may pick and eat, but overall, herbs are meant to be food. Also, when purchasing herbs, make sure you are buying from a reputable dealer. Know your source. Poisonous herbs are not on the medicinal market. It is generally safe to use herbs at 2-3 times the recommended dose when dealing with a current issue, so you can feel completely safe at the regular dose. The danger is in using them with conventional drugs, because too much of the drugs in your system may be the result of herbs getting your body healthy again. Also, herbs cleanse toxins out and may see the drug as a toxin and cleanse it out without it's having had the desired effect.
So it is not the herb that is dangerous, but the dependence on pharmaceutical drugs. To rely on drugs for basic bodily functions is to artificially operate the body and become dependent on the drugs to do the body's work, rather than supporting the body in doing it's own work as it was Designed to do. In a sense, it's over-riding the will of God. Food was designed as our medicine and herbs were designed to be food. It's our ignorance of their use which has become unsafe, both in neglecting to practice natural ways and also in turning to dangerous drugs with their side effects.
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." (Genesis 1:29)
Myth: There are no cures for many diseases.
Truth: God has a cure. It is there. For every incurable disease, there have been people who have beat the odds. Statistics fail to take this into account. Every time someone lives, a cure was enacted for them. Cures come in many forms, and sometimes in different forms for different individuals, but there is always a cure possible for every condition of health which exists. Throughout history there have even been reports of those who were raised from the dead. The blind, the lepers, the lame...these are no different than people today. A root, a berry, a sip of elixir, a hug, a prayer, an energy healing, water, exercise, rest...there are many, many ways that we can heal.
Myth: Natural cures are unorthodox.
Truth: Natural cures have been around since the very beginning of time. They are why we are not now extinct.
Hopefully this has helped erase a few fears. There's really nothing to be afraid of. We all day someday, this much is true. But what kind of life do we wish to live? I wish to live a vital life full of energy, wellness and hope. This is God's best plan for us all.
I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I just want to share
what I've learned over the years to try and help ease others' pain. I
care about others, but it is my own life and those close to me who
matter the most. I think everyone can probably say the same thing.
Your life is your life, and so you do what you think is best for you.
And
along the same lines, also remember it's your life and not your
doctor's life. Your doctor has your best interest at heart, I am sure,
but it isn't his or her life on the line. It is yours.
Medical
doctors know what they're taught, and like the rest of us, they also
know whatever else they've learned along the way. What is taught in
medical school is primarily based on disease rather than wellness.
Pharmaceutical manufacturing companies are the major funding source for
medical schools, and pharmaceutical drug education is mostly what is
being taught, along with surgical intervention, early screening, and
diagnosis and prognosis of disease. It is an entirely different
approach than the naturopathic approach.
So if you're going to a
medical doctor thinking that you're getting the whole picture, you're
not. Naturopathy tends to be much more holistic in viewpoint, but even
then, you are not assured of getting the whole picture unless you
specifically seek holistic care. (The term holistic implies to look at
the totally of an individual rather than bits and parts.) Even then,
though, do you really see the whole picture? No one knows your
circumstances better than you, so be sure you add your input in.
It's
YOUR life. If you get sick, then YOU get sick. And if YOU're to get
well, then YOU have to be the one to put the effort in. YOU are the one
who needs to make the decisions. YOU are the responsible party. It's
up to YOU to do your own research, and it's up to YOU to carry out what
it is that you decide to do. There's no use in blaming, because in the
end, YOU are the one who will reap the consequences of whatever course
of action you decide to pursue.
Along those same lines, are you letting the grocery store
product placement specialists or advertising executives make your food buying decisions for you? It's
YOUR life, not theirs. They're trying to sell while all you're doing is
trying to buy breakfast cereal that will give you what you need to
carry you throughout the day! It may sound silly what I'm saying here,
but do you buy what's been placed strategically to draw your
interest...and your dollars...in? Do you make your food decisions,
similarly, based on what the commercials say on TV? Don't let others
decide such important matters for you if you want to live a fuller and
longer life! If yoiu're eating for health, which is the best reason for eating and the best approach to good health, then you need to eat healthy foods! It seems quite simple, but this seems to elude many folks. It matters to your health what's on your plate! Make it natural and pure. Make your food choices a vital part of your plan for optimal health!
So, in designing a plan, the first thing to decide is how much time and money are you willing to put into the project of becoming as well as you can become. Let's go down a short list of some choices to make...
Supplements and herbal remedies. These need d to be staples if you want to make a noticeable difference in improving your level of health. Not as drugs, designed to regulate the body, but as food, designed to support the body in its natural functions. Herbs work to nourish, cleanse and balance the body so that it can better do the job it's meant to do, which is to THRIVE!
So, do you want to get products to supplement your diet that you can just take on the way out the door every morning, again at lunchtime and then in the evening? If so, you have to realize these are not covered by insurance, and going with a cheap company will get you cheap results. I would suggest going with a company you can count on. Pick a good one. There are numerous, but be sure you reseach the company you choose. Don't just look at ingredients in products they use, although this is extremely important, but look for signs of high quality ingredients. Does the company have a quality statement? Do they manufacture their own products? What are their standards like? What is their reputation in the natural health industry? Many herbs get passed over by the better companies only to be purchased by cheaper companies and used. These may include herbs which have been damaged, are less potent, have not had stringent tests for microbes or cannot adequately be identified. If you're going to use herbs for your health, use the best herbs that you can. Do your research. Contact us at eolhec@aol.com if you'd like suggestions from us.
You can also grow many herbs yourself, and also focus more on food for your health. Food for your health should be a good part of any wellness plan. Herbs are concentrated food, providing plant substances the body recognizes and needs. You can also learn to make herb medicines yourself. They are easy once the proper procedure is learned, and quite inexpensive, as well. We have classes at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center if you're in the area. We're happy to serve! Eventually we'll be offering video tapes. In the meanwhile, hit YouTube. There are many good videos there.
Make YouTube your friend! You can learn how to make raw vegan foods, how to make herbal tinctures, how to identify and cultivate herbs, and so much more. You can even do Yoga to YouTube! You can find healing sound frequencies and music and so many wonderful things.
This is your LIFE we're talking about! Spend time learning what it takes to live well! The answers are certainly there. You can be your own expert. It's up to you how well you want to live and how much you're willing to trust yourself. Check out the facts. Don't be a cynic, but it's okay to be a skeptic and do your own research. A cynic tends to have a closed mind, and that's not going to bring any change into your life. There's a lot of information out there, some good, some incorrect. Look at the source and consider what perspective they're coming from.
In addition to herbal supplements and food therapy...(by the way, raw foodism and juicing are awesome for health!), also consider things like exercise. How much do you get? Really? Be honest because there's no fooling your body on this. Exercise is for much more than just losing weight. it's for keeping your body flexible and strong with endurance to carry you through! Exercise also plays a part in organ health, endocrine health, brain function, and many things we don't commonly think of. What kind of exercise are you willing to do to optimize your current level of health? If you won't do it, don't waste the time to put it into your plan. Think of some for of exercise you really are willing to do and then start with that, gradually increasing the amount and types of exercise you regularly take part in for health.
Water is so important to health and so neglected by many. Don't drug your thirst! Water has to do with every function of the body, from brain to joints to every malfunction and disease under the sun. DRINK LOTS OF WATER! We are roughly 70% water. Each of our 70-100 TRILLION cells need water to carry nutrients in and waste out. Nothing can take its place. Drink water evenly throughout the day for best results. Take your body weight, divide it by half, and drink that many ounces a day as a good rule of thumb. (And use a filter or be a filter...your choice!)
Rest. Get some. Regular rest. Sleep when it's dark and get up when it's light. This is the very best way and you'd be surprised how much good it will do! During the day, if you are tired, honor your body and rest. Over time, energy will return as you work to rebuild your health. The body repairs itself during rest.
Chemical exposure. Examine what you are breathing! Synthetic fragrances are extremely toxic to use! Air fresheners...get ones with essential oils instead of synthetic fragrance. These will not only give you reduced exposure to toxins but will actually benefit you. Same thing with all cleaning products and beauty products. Go through the house and replace them all! Synthetic fragrances have countless toxic chemicals as ingredients that affect the brain, the nervous system, the endocrine system and the respiratory system. It is shocking this information is not more widely known. The research is vast in verifying the detrimental effects. Use pure therapeutic grade essential oils in making your own products or buy products only using essential oils or other natural fragrances.
Stress. What's yours? How can you reduce it? Eliminate unnecessary sources of negative stress. Too much stress is a killer for sure.
Take your health into your own hands...It's yours. You are created in the image and likeness of God, in perfection, perfectly capable of healing yourself. Your body is Divinely designed, as is the earth which gives it support. Planet Earth was Perfectly Designed to support life on earth! Take some of the fear out of having a body. It's the experience we were given on earth to enjoy! Trust God. Trust the process. Trust nature. Trust yourself! You are meant to be a healer. It's part of who you ARE.
Healing is a spiritual matter. Complete healing only occurs holistically. If the mind and the spirit are out of balance, the body cannot be well! Spirit will lead the way, because it is in touch with the Truth of our being and the Source of our strength. If you cannot wrap your head around the idea of God, use the concept of Love as present throughout all of Nature...and you!
If you need help in designing a program, that's what Certified Traditional Naturopaths are trained to do. That is the certification I am very happy to have. But all I or anyone else can do is to guide you. This is YOUR journey! Become your own doctor, your own minister, your own very best friend. The answers are all within YOU. There is nothing more valuable in life you can learn than how to access these answers and put them to use! Enjoy the journey and please let us know if there is some way we can help.
Blessings of Joy, Peace and Good Health (God's Health!) in Your Life!
We are creating a sacred space together at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center. We have been joining together to make repairs, do the creative work of painting and decorating, and now we're working on beautifying the grounds and then the outside of the building is next. It is all coming together so beautifully well!
But it's the love and the fellowship that makes this space so special. It is the fact that we gather here to worship the sacredness of all of life, together as one. It is the intent to use this space as a place for healing. It is the vision, the dream, the faith that's going into what we're doing here.
We ask that you honor this intention and join us in lifting each other up to their highest good. We can use this space we're creating as a practice zone for living our best, thinking our best, learning to applying the principles of healing that we're learning here.
When we're gathered together it's for the purpose of healing, so we need to keep this in mind and leave negativity outside. No gossip, no talk of defeat, no cursing, no violence of any kind. (No violence? Of any kind? Yes. This means we won't be serving animal products here at our meals.)
We realize when people go home none of us lives a perfect life. We think negative thoughts, we gossip, we do all sorts of things. But that doesn't matter, everyone's still welcome with us. You don't have to be vegan or sober or a non-smoker...you just have to be willing to rise to a higher level when you're with us.
We don't kick people out of church for being addicted, for being involved in adulterous affairs or anything else. We welcome ex-felons or anyone who wishes to come. You just have to behave in a manner respectful of all in order to attend what we've got going on.
Ex-felons? Addicts? Cheaters? What?!?! Yes, that is right. We would rather have those people come than the ones who think they are better and speak badly of others in church.
You see, creating a sacred space is about making a safe place for people to come into the realization of Love and Peace. It's a place where people can easily find the answers they seek. It's a place to find God. None of us are perfect, even though we are all created as perfect and whole. None of us is the perfect example of living according to God's plan for us. We get scared, we make bad decisions, we get in over our heads. Let's practice understanding and compassion when considering the challenges another may have.
So everyone is welcome, it is simply the behaviour while we are together that we are setting guidelines about. A positive, loving environment is what we wish to achieve. We don't care what your background is, your level of income, your sexual preferences, your eating habits, your medical choices, what kind of air freshener you use...AT HOME! Here, we would like to just accept each other the way that we are, and keep our environment free from negative words, actions that are hurtful to one another, no cursing, no synthetic perfumes, and no food that was produced at another's expense.
When we speak of our problems, we speak of them in a way that reflects God's healing presence is at work in us now. Instead of focusing on illness, we focus on wellness here. We are learning to trust this and so it would be helpful to express this in our words when we speak to each other. Let's support each other in this. For instance, instead of saying that so and so is sick, say they are healing. There's no need to name the supposed illness, unless you are seeking natural health information. But even then, remember this is just a name for a series of symptoms and not anything that has power in us. On ly God has the Power...IS the Power to HEAL. God is Life. God is Love. God is Good. These are the sentiments we would like to express in our church, to keep us in touch with the Power to heal.
Thoughts, words, deeds and living things carry vibration, just as do sound, aroma, color and light. Food carries vibration. Vibrations acting together have a direct impact on us. This is another sermon, but the highest vibration is Pure Love expressed.
It may seem that the guidelines are too simplistic, or on the other hand it may seem they are too strict. We're human. We make mistakes. We're simply a group of people coming together to learn the most that we can about God's healing Love, so we're simply expressing our desire to support ourselves and each other in doing just that! Let's not only learn about God's healing Love, let's learn to express it, to channel it, to use it in our everyday lives! Let's use it to heal ourselves, those we love, those we think ourselves to despise! Let's learn to use God's healing power, and let's hold to the highest standards we can while we are inside our church or in the company of one another here at Essentials of Life! THEN.....
Let's start practicing at home!
Of course we are already doing that. I'm not implying that we are only now starting, for I believe we are all on that journey already. But let's be more aware of our sacred space. Is it just in our church, or should not we think of our living space, too, as being sacred to us?!
And our body? Our bodies are the temple of God! Our bodies are as a church. May we choose to declare them as sacred and treat them as such, offering only the highest vibration in foods, actions, and scents, for instance. Think about whether we are honoring or defiling our bodies with what we subject ourselves to.
And our minds are also the temple of God. Our minds are the connecting link between us and the Divine. Our minds act as the vehicle for inspiration, for invention, for every action we take. We can use them to channel Good Direction to us, or we can use them to divert us from good. (Not from Good with the Capital G because God's always there...therefore Good's always there. However we certainly do sometimes make it hard on ourselves!) But back to topic, our mind is a sacred space which gives our life direction. Think on good, loving, peaceful and prosperous thoughts benefiting all others involved, and that is what will be returned to you. The mind is a good place to keep pure.
And the heart, of course, is the true kingdom of God. That is the most sacred space.
"Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." (Luke 17:21)
SPRING! It's been springing up all over the place! Dandelions, clover, plantain and other valuable herbs all over the yard, birds singing, sweet smells in the air, everything turning so green and the blossoms on the trees coming in bloom!
Spring is happening here in our Learning Garden, and we have new beginnings to celebrate at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center!
We have moved our home-based church into the newly renovated barn that we all worked together to create this new space. We're building new traditions together and growing into who we're to become as a spiritual group!
We have Rev. Holly Rowley on board now to direct our interfaith worship program. HOORAY! Holly is absolutely wonderful in the work that she does!
My husband, Dean Evans, also a minister, and myself are continuing our education in the natural health field, with Dean recently becoming a Certified Natural Health Professional. Together we're continuing to learn and just got back from the Herbal Medicine Maker's Bootcamp in Pine Mountain, Georgia!
We also have some new interns in our training program, and we are starting new classes and groups all the time!
We held our Dedication Celebration & Barn Party weekend a few weeks ago, and we had such a fabulous time! There is new energy here and new connections are being made! We prayed, we ate, we learned, we sang, we played music, we did yoga, we created, we meditated, we laughed, we were inspired, we provided pure nourishment to our mind, body and spirit, we made friends, we taught children, children taught us, we had a drum circle, we took part in arts and crafts, we got massages, we gave Reiki, we played the singing bowls, we hugged, we looked inside of ourselves and each other and together we found something GOOD!
You can feel the energy here...God's healing presence. Where is it coming from? It's coming from everyone's heart!
God's healing presence is seen throughout all of nature. It's in every person, every bird, every bit of food that grows from the ground. God's healing presence is active in us before we are born. It is implanted in us as a seed. It is within our makeup to grow strong and to thrive as much as it is in an acorn to become a strong mighty tree.
We go through winters and times of hardship, but new life is born in us as surely as the spring comes around. It is true on every level. You can see it here in the new life of a home-church that's been around quite a long time, hidden beneath the "snow." You can see it outside with the flowers and herbs growing out of the ground where not long ago there actually was snow, with everything frozen below. You can see it in your life, too...new growth. If you apply this principle to healing....what do you suppose it could mean?
It could mean that you can get well...even after you've given up, new life is able to come.
It could mean that there is hope for relationships gone dormant or stale.
It could mean that new ideas spring forth from within or that new feelings emerge.
It could mean feeling young again when you thought you were growing old!
Embrace the meaning of spring in your heart and feel all of these things! It's natural! Why hang onto winter when the flowers wish to burst forth? You have to just about smother them to keep them from blooming, so if they're not blooming, perhaps it's negative thoughts keeping them down, like a layer of straw or newspapers will keep new life from springing forth to be seen. (But if you lift that layer of straw or newspapers do you know what you'll see? Life STILL springing forth! Life doesn't give up! You'll see sprouts and lots of bugs!)
No, life does not give up easily. Life will renew itself again and again and again, as long as we make the conditions at all bearable, it will come back to us time and again. Why not make the conditions favorable and see the True Power of Life coming back into full glory in you?
We know how to heal. It's part of our make-up. Rejoice in the glory of LIFE and let every moment you're alive be filled with new energy and LOVE!
New life from old. New traditions from old! We are in the study and practice of healing the body, mind and spirit at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center. We look to traditions that have been here since the beginning of time and bring them into our modern day life, but still retaining the integrity of Original Intent. We believe God intended everything granted to us from the beginning be used for the good of all life.
We hope you will join us in bringing these old traditions to new life in your healing journey. We are learning ways of healing from all over the world, from every culture and tradition we are able to find. We want to know what has been driving people since the beginning of time to keep going in the face of adversity, and what's been truly working for them. We wish to share spiritual ideas and to learn all that we can to become whole and well. Spiritual studies, of course, are a great part of this, but finding ways to apply what we learn is where we really begin to enjoy the new life that comes from what's been here all along.
We host many groups, classes and workshops to learn how to bring what we're learning into practical use in your every day life. Come explore what God gave from the very beginning and declared to be good! All the secrets to living happy lie in the constant renewal of those very first seeds.
NOW...Speaking of seeds...there are several things on my mind. First and foremost, we need to work together as a people to protect God's seeds! God gave us FOOD for FREE in the SEEDS! Become informed about what's happening to our seeds if you don't already know. They are being patented. Seeds! Yes! Made by God, patented by man, and restrictions being placed on their use. Plus they are being altered! Seeds! Made perfect from God as our FOOD! This is to my way of thinking one of the absolute most important issue we are facing as a society. Hunger could be banished with proper use of the seeds that God gave us in the beginning for free. Yes, I said there were several things on my mind, but I guess that about says it all for right now. I am asking you to just work on increasing your awareness of this and take action as you feel guided by conscience, spirit, intelligence and inspiration in the best interest of all. We are a church and it just doesn't seem right to ignore an issue of this magnitude.
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." (Genesis 1:29)
Blessings of celebrated new life each day! That's what life does...it springs forth like a seed every day!
We all know that we're expected to be on our best behavior at church, but do we really know why that is? Shouldn't we be on our best behavior all of the time? Is behaving as if we're something we're not when we're not being a hypocrite when we walk through those doors?
Well, sure, we should be behaving our best all the time, and that's what we're learning to do. By behaving our best at church, it sets a pattern. It gives us a chance to see how it feels, to practice, and to be supported by others in realizing a better way of presenting ourselves.
We all make mistakes. Everyone is perfect in God's eyes and in our creation, but let's face it, we fall short in carrying that out. We all make mistakes. We all "sin." (A sin is simply missing the mark.)
But it's important to think about how we would act if we were living in the perfection we were created to be. We would be kind, loving, healthy, fair, honest, strong, secure, positive, compassionate, generous, optimistic, even-tempered, light-hearted, happy, fulfilled!
Let's practice together! What would be so bad about portraying these qualities each day?
Kind...to everyone and everything, including ourselves. Same thing for loving. This includes sending love to people we hate or resent. Healthy? Is that something we can control? Well, we can certainly start where we are, and imagine ourselves to be! We can fake it until we make it, so as to speak. We can look at our behaviours like eating, etc., and ask ourselves if this is how a healthy person stays healthy or not. We can give thanks because we're healing right now. Fairness and honesty, again with ourselves and others. REALLY honest, not just what you think others might like to hear, but become honest at a gut level and develop imtegrity and strength in this way. Strength, next on the list. Doing the right things makes you strong. Security will also come, but foster it by reaffirming and stepping out in your faith. Positive. There's always Good you can focus your attention on instead of apparent lack that may be fooling you into thinking that all is not right in your world. Give thanks and you'll see there is always a reason to be grateful you are alive! Compassion to all, even the animals who go through so much at the hands of humans. Generous, realizing and giving thanks that your own needs are always supplied. Optimism reminds us that we are continually progressing on our spiritual path and that things will continually get better for us and the world as we grow in our understanding of Love. To be even-tempered, light-hearted, happy and fulfilled will be the result of all this. Allow yourself to start feeling those feelings now!
We don't expect people to not make mistakes at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center, but we do hope to offer a place to celebrate the best we can be.
We talk a lot about healing and how simple it is. Yes it is simple to heal the way God intended, but we know it is not always easy, and we all have hurts and imbalances that we need to heal. We're here to help you learn how and to encourage you in your quest for health. If we seem unsympathetic, we're not. What we are doing is reprogramming our minds for good health, and giving our body what is required to heal on its own. the whole time acknowledging God's perfect presence in us. The True Spirit of God can't be sick, and it lives in us. The more we focus on this, the more we bring it to the forefront of who we are. This is why we look for solutions, knowing they're there, rather than allowing ourselves to stay stuck in sickness and pain by focusing on the problem instead of on health.
We have to start believing we can be well before it will manifest for us in our life. We also have to focus on finding solutions and on doing whatever we can. We have no time to complain, and to do so pulls us further into the false-belief that we are truly ill. Illness is an illusion....it's an experience we're going through, not WHO we are. Our true identity lies in the fact that we're created in the Perfect image of God. We realize this can be hard, but until we see our true nature we will continue to think we "are" sick. Sickness is an experience we're meant to grow through, not cling to. Don't put negative words on your "I am!" Instead, try affirmations, such as "I am healing right now!"
At church we don't smoke, we don't drink, we don't curse, we don't gossip...and hopefully we don't do those things either, at home. At our church, we also do not eat meat or use products created through violence. We're not saying everyone has to be vegan to be part of our group, but we're holding a standard out that this is the most compassionate way you can eat, and also the healthiest way. We do not use animal products in our soaps, ointments, foods, herbal tinctures, etc., that we make and use here in our groups. In the instance of coffee, we do have a coffee maker, but only fair trade coffee at church, to help us become aware of the slave trade that's going on in the name of regular coffee production. In other words, we work to increase our awareness and hold ourselves as a church to the highest standards that we know how to do.
So, yes, people who come to our church are fallible, and we accept that. We, as ministers, are fallible, too. Please do not put me or any of us on a pedestal, or imagine that we're trying to say that we've overcome all adversity, temptation and challenge, for this is not at all the case. We're simply asking that while we are gathered together that we do our best to take a good look at what we could be doing to increase our awareness of God's perfection in us and in our everyday lives.
So, everyone IS welcome here! YES! We don't care what you believe insofar as the particulars of religion, politics, lifestyle, etc., or what your background, race, sexual orientation or anything else is concerned. You will not be thrown out of the church for breaking laws, man-made or God-made, and you will not be judged for your choices in what you eat, what you drink, what medical choices you make or anything else. We wish to view everyone with respect, without judgment, gossip or blame. We will, however, ask that while you are here, you refrain from certain behaviors, such as lying, cheating, stealing, smoking, engaging in illegal behavior, gossiping, cursing and having a general overall negative attitude. We ask that a respect for life be shown and a willingness to increase our group awareness of the Presence of God.
Isn't this what we want when we ask for others to give us support? Don't we want support in being lifted to God? So when we pray, we see the best in the person we're praying for, and when we are together, we see the best in ourselves and each other, as well. Our relationships with each other become in this way as a prayer. That's what we want as a church!
We are creating a sacred space here with each other. A space where we can become more acquainted with our Higher Selves...with God...with Oneness, Peace, Harmony, Love. Create a sacred space, too, in your home, in your body, in your heart. Wherever we are, God IS.
When
I think of the word, "Mother," many things come into my mind. My own
sweet mother, of course, who to me, will always be the perfect
embodiment of motherhood. I think, too, of myself, for I am the mother
of three, the step-mother of three more, and a grandmother to two little
ones now.
I think of mothers all over the world. There is
probably no image so sweet to anyone anywhere than the image of their
mother's face. Generally speaking, of course, because some people
aren't lucky enough to be with their mother, or perhaps their mother
hasn't been much of a mother to them.
What does it mean, "to be a
mother?" Isn't having children enough? Well, yes, and we all do the
best that we can at the time, I am sure. But to "BE" a mother, to me,
goes back to the thought of embodying a certain idea. What is it that a
true mother is?
Nurturing, caring, teaching, feeding, loving,
comforting, encouraging, supporting...these are words that come to mind
when thinking of what the word, "mother" means. Aren't these all things
anybody can do, regardless of whether or not they gave birth?
We
all have a mother inside of us. It's part of who we actually are. The
Mother is the Eternal Mother...the feminine aspects of God...the yin to
the yang, so to speak.
So, God is nurturing. I am nurturing.
I am created in the image and likeness of God. God is Love, so
naturally God is caring and loving, and so are we. It is natural for us
to teach, feed, encourage, support, etc., because that is who we
naturally are. We are created in the image of Love.
When we
find that we are not receiving these things in our life, look at whether
or not we are in fact giving them, for it is in giving that we
receive. We may think we are too weak to give. There is always
strength in giving love, so start there. Sometimes a good place to
start is by giving love to yourself. You have a little child inside of
you who needs a mother's kind love. That's the way to approach loving
yourself. Then you can extend that love outward to others, as well.
This
does not mean to give in to your every whim by giving yourself a
misguided love! A mother's love is wise. Give this type of love to
yourself. A mother looks out for the best of her children. Look out
for your best interests, not simply instant gratification and what feels
good in the moment, but rather what will help to carry you through.
Allow
your inner Mother to teach you what's right from what's wrong. Find
the place of peace inside of yourself where you can feel safe in your
"mother's" arms, and let her teach you, guide you, and comfort you.
Learn to know the sound of her voice. Rest in the comfort of absolute
love. There is Peace in your Mother's arms. There is Strength. There
is Wisdom and Truth. Your Mother would never lie or hurt you in any
way. Learn to trust this voice in yourself.
Let your inner
Mother decide how you should eat. Not necessarily the same as your
earthly mother, although I am sure that she tried, but rather look to
what's provided in nature to eat, for the Spirit of Mother is certainly
there! We know her as Mother Earth! Mother Earth gave us LIFE. We are
created in her image, as well as the spiritual attributes we recognize
as God. Our chemical make up...our physical body...is made up of the
elements of Earth, such as water, minerals, etc. We are in complete
harmony with the environments, as much so as a baby is at home in its
mother's womb.
So on Mother's Day, yes, think of your own mother
with love and express this love in some meaningful way. And if you are
fortunate to have your own children, then give thanks for the
opportunity to experience the bliss of being a mother. It is an honor,
indeed! But mostly think of your own Mother inside you...the Mother who
guides you and comforts you and loves you whenever you turn within.
Express these motherly qualities in your own life, towards yourself and
outward to heal the whole world! There's nothing quite as healing as a
mother's love! Give that gift to the world. (You KNOW your Mother would tell you to play nice and be kind!!)
Think, too, of
Mother Earth, for this is also a part of who you are. You are not only
your body, but you do have a body. Turn to the Mother to feed and be in
harmony with your natural surroundings for physical health. Your Mother
will not let you down! It is Her nature to LOVE!
"Give Folk Medicine Back to the Folks!" This is one of our favorite slogans here at the Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center. It's more than a slogan, in fact; it's one of our primary goals!
The classes we teach here are practical. We teach how to use natural elements, such as plants, water, air, and natural abilities like laughter, love, touch, creativity and more, to assist us in our healing journey, bringing about the natural health we were created to have. We were made to live and live well! We were created in the image and likeness of God, and the planet we're on is perfectly designed to support life on this planet. Otherwise we'd all be extinct!
Modern medicine has only been around for a very short time in the big scheme of things, but we've somehow, as a society, come to the conclusion that it's an integral part of our survival. Then how did we survive so many years before it all came around?
The history of medicine is a quite interesting study. When considering the idea that history repeats itself, some areas are well worth the time, and I should think anything dealing with health and survival would be somewhere near the top of the list. But sadly and strangely enough, the history of sports or of wars or of automobiles, or even sewing machines, seems to be higher on a lot of folks' minds.
I'm not talking about the history of modern medicine, as presented by interested parties to the mega-billion dollar industry that modern medicine has recently become. I'm talking about the history of medicine as it goes way back in time, to where the first time chemical medicine entered the scene, and exactly how it came into the power that it has today. Money is power, they say. But they also say that the love of it is the root of all evil. Let's put that question aside for a moment, but we will examine it more before we are through.
In the beginning, when all was created, we are told through many sources that all was created as good. Do we believe this? No matter what else you may believe, ask yourself if you believe this basic premise or not. Do you believe that the earth, the universe, and everything in it has a basic design of perfection, in that each part is perfectly designed to function in a manner which is inherently beneficial to the the good of all? This is the basic premise of the continuation of life. Do you believe life is random or do you believe that there is a Higher Order in place?
Or how about this...Do you believe that the laws of nature apply to you in your life? To believe that they don't is like believing that the planets just magically don't routinely bang into each other. Surely we all know there is some sort of reason, call it scientific or call it Divine, but there is SOME sort of reason they don't! Just as there is some sort of reason why when a sperm and an egg join together a whole entire human is born, or another creature like to it's own kind. There is order in the world of nature, and we are a part of all that. So why when we think of our health do we think it is somehow strange to look to nature for the answers to the secrets of life? This defies neither science nor God! God is seen as Creator, and science verifies that life is GOOD!!
So, to look at the history, let's start with the idea of all being good. Then something happened. What was it? The knowledge of good AND evil was chosen through our free will, and that's when sickness began. We were given perfection and we thought we could do better than that. We defied the laws of nature and God and sickness began and has continued since then.
Well, God being the Good that God is gave us a perfect world in which to live. We messed a lot of it up, and we're messing it up in recent times worse than it's ever been messed. We've polluted it, stripped it of many natural resources, and we've all but destroyed natural balance on this marvelous, perfectly designed planet of ours.
We, as the human race, have collectively turned love into hate in so many instances, as well as plentiful and bountiful supply for us all into unadulterated greed, throwing so many into an utter state of poverty and lack. We've learned to steal, lie, cheat, kill, rape, adulterate, betray, torture, embezzle, enslave, batter, deprive, imprison and otherwise mistreat ourselves, our fellow humans and fellow creatures on a daily basis, to one degree or the next. Is there anyone of us who has not lied to ourselves at least a little today? We may think that we haven't, but if we've told ourselves that we're anything less than a Perfect and Whole expression of God, then we have. That's where the trouble begins. The knowledge of good and evil. We would do so much better to simple accept all as Good!
So, back to the history lesson, people began getting sick, but there was still goodness in us, and the inherent gifts of healing available to use. We had the gifts of the earth and sky, such as the plants, the air, the sunshine, the rain and the magnetic force. We had other gifts, too, such as the power of love, and of laughter, and the ability to respond in a creative manner to what comes our way. We were created in the image of the Creative Force of all Life! Creativity comes naturally to us.
ALL of healing comes naturally to us! It is our nature to heal! Our bodies have an amazing power to regenerate. Have you ever noticed how a cut heals on its own? The body KNOWS how to heal. We were created in the image of God, and God is Life. We were created in the image of LIFE, therefore we know how to heal. What does a flower bulb do when you take a shovel and cut into it? It causes the tree to flower more, or the roots to spread, because it has a natural healing response. So do we.
No, we can't overcome everything. Not with the limits we have placed on our own minds, anyway. We could if we realized the Power given to us for healing, but we have to overcome the sins of our fathers, so as to speak, and overcome all the lies through the years. Where did they start? They started with wanted to do better than that which was already perfect and good. We wanted to know what the knowledge of evil would bring.
So what is evil? Evil to my way of thinking is greed. As mentioned before, it is said that the love of money is the root of all evil. Well, money hasn't always existed, but the idea of wanting more than our share has been around for a very long time. Someone wants someone's wife, or their land, or their mule, or their car, and it's on. People with tons of money have been in power for ages and ages and many have been much less than kind in their desire to rule the whole world. The money is not the problem, the problem is the love of money over the love of God. God is Life. God is Love. God is Good. Placing personal wealth over the Love of Life, Love and Goodness is where the evil begins.
So, why are we talking about evil and the love of money and all of this when the topic at hand is Giving Folk Medicine Back to the Folks? Well, we saw where sickness started, and then after that there were good-hearted people who shared love, prayer, and healing knowledge freely with one another, and this is what Folk Medicine is! It's when professionalism and trying to monopolize and profit from the practice of healing for personal gain rather than the common good that medicine became expensive and out of reach in the first place. It's also where the side effects began to appear, and the suppression of our healing heritage and right to practice healing each other without license by state government authorities and such.
At first it was the Church that controlled medical practice. The Church, in fact, was actually one with the State. Separation of Church and State are very important to freedom, and at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center, we're very grateful for that. May we all work together to preserve this freedom, and not take for granted that it can be taken away.
But back to the message at hand, the Church, the State, the local powers that be, began dictating who could and could not engage in the practice of medicine, upon threat of imprisonment or even death. In the early days, the penalty of death was often imposed for such a crime. In fact, Galileo himself is said to have come up against the threat of death on this issue, but his life was bargained for, and that's where the birth of chemical medicine began. The men of medicine (not women at that time! Women were commonly burned at the stake as witches if they practiced the healing arts!) were permitted to practice medicine so long as they left the Spirit out of the picture and treated the body instead like a machine with no regard to the Life Force at all. So the goal of medicine became one of over-powering the body through artificial means, rather than working with the Life Force and the body's natural inclination to heal.
To add to this scenario, there was also the motivation for profit. As mentioned above, so-called "witches" were burned at the stake, and nature was put underground, if you'll pardon the pun. Medical schools were very expensive, and medical terminology was quite complex, being based in Latin and over-complicating the idea of health. They took the goodness of whole herbs and chemically extracted only the components they wanted, and then they concentrated the doses of such and added artificial ingredients in, all of which created side-effects which were not originally there for the sake of a patent and big profit and monopolization and greed.
What I have come to realize is that God, through nature, made the medicine like it should have been in the first place, perfect and whole, for our good with no side effects. The only problem with herbs is we don't know how to use them. That's what we're talking about! Herbs and the other plants were put here as our food and medicine, and we've forgotten completely how to use them it seems! Same thing with other healing elements, such as laughter, love, air, aroma, sound, color, fresh air and lots of clean water!!!
Why on earth do we, as a society, leave the concept of healing and the practice of medicine to those only trained in what they are trained in, and why do we not realize the power to heal is within us all? There is example after example throughout ALL of history of the practice of healing being suppressed...even to the point of death. Are many not dying today? Maybe no one is being put to death, but many are dying at the hands of those who claim to know what is best. What if we choose something else? Are we allowed? We better not take it for granted, because we can easily lose this right once again. History does indeed tend to repeat.
We have, right now, the right to learn, and we should, if we are to survive as individuals and as a race. To me, survival means moving ahead. To stay stuck in one spot in my mind is to die. We need to move forward but not forget the past. We are doomed to repeat that which we do not recall and use for our common good. We're here together to learn.
Life is tough. There are many obstacles and seeming disruptions to good. Our challenge is to use everything we have for good, and to thereby recognize the worth in all. We are all on the same team, sharing the same planet together. This is the attitude we all need to embrace.
Meanwhile, people cheat in the game and some try to take the whole playing board for themselves. Some people quit, some drop out for awhile and come back, and some people just plain don't follow the rules. All you can do is to play the absolute best that you can if you want your team to win, and winning is survival for all. Remember, there's only one team.
That being said, we need to put all of the fear and the advertising that plays on our fear to the side. Forget the diagnoses, the prognoses, the statistics, and everything scary for just a minute and think for yourself for a minute. Look at what the modern medical system has become. Is it simple? Does it seem Godly to you? Have we perhaps given our God-given power away?
People standing in lines for medical treatment. People stuck in waiting rooms for hours and hours, being asked the same questions again and again. People losing their homes to pay medical bills. Insurance dictating medical treatment available. People being told they have to do this or that. People being told they have so long to live. People dying from side effects. People dying from medical error. People dying from infections contracted in medical institutions. People being told they have to take certain medications for the rest of their lives. People having organs cut out routinely. Animals being maimed, tortured and killed by the millions in order that research be done. Underpaid aides, understaffed nursing homes, and children on mind-altering drugs. More and worse things than these.
In the beginning, all was created as good. What have we done? Shouldn't we get back to all that?ee
Today the common idea of healing is that Vitamin C comes in a pack of artificially colored and flavored packet of refined sugar or else chemically formulated artificial sweetening agent...all of which are very suspect by the own horrific animal experiments of being extremely detrimental to mind chemistry and other bodily functions for our well-being and good. The fact that it contains a synthetic version of Vitamin C is only of worse consequence, because it lies to the common folks who believe what they read and who blindly also believe that if it were bad for you it couldn't be sold. The fact is that Vitamin C and all the other vitamins come best directly from FOOD, with plants and herbs being our food.
Healing is natural. Healing is free. Healing is built into our cells. We were placed in an environment perfectly suited to meet our healing needs. We intuitive know how to heal. Healing occurs for millions and millions and millions of people each day without chemical drugs. These are not included in the statitistics. The statistics are slanted to show different things for the purpose of showing what is profitable to show. Keep in mind, they want us dependent on them. The medical industry is the #1 money manking industry in the U.S. and most likely in the whole world. If not medicine, then surely war. Are the two so different and apart? The cancer industry, specifically, is the top dollar industry in the U.S. How badly do you think they want a cure? The cures exist as close as right under our feet. There are countless cures, and they're all within our own reach.
It's time to Give Folk Medicine Back to the Folks. That's what we're trying to do at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center. We believe God meant for healing to be free and available to all. We can heal with the plants, with the food, with the aromas, with laughter, with tears, with love, with prayer, with touch, with creativity, with color, with sound, with movement, with rest, with water and sooooooooooo many things! God is the Source of all Life! God IS Life! God is Love! God is Good! So why would God not want us to heal? Healing is natural to us! We were created in the image and likeness of God.
This modern day reliance on chemical medicine and medical doctors with their big words is just astounding when you step back and look. It was only as far back as 1938 when the last botanical medical school was shut down in the U.S. It was in Cincinnati, Ohio. The botanical schools used to exist and the only reason that today they do not is because choice was taken away by big dollars and a monopoly was created. That's all. It had nothing to do with what works, but with profit. The history is rich if you pursue the true facts of the story. It is a story which has repeated itself again and again. Yet how do you forever subdue the natural gifts of healing granted to us since the beginning of time? The methods of doing such are quite intense, more so than perhaps we might think.
Quite frankly, we brainwashed and drugged. We're drugged from the first time we're given a sip of fluoridated water, or when they put refined sugar into our bottle in some form or another, or inoculate u with substances foreign to us. We're brainwashed from the first time we turn on the TV, or look at a magazine ad. That might seem extreme, but add to that the idea that our parents have all been brainwashed for years, so it takes easy to us.
I encourage you all to think for yourself, and ask yourself, as a believer in the very first question I made at the beginning of this whole rant...which you must be, or else you would not be reading still...whether or not this makes any sense? They read the side effects aloud in the ads, but people just seem to ignore them and then not even consider they have a choice when the side effects indeed do occur. What they don't read is crammed in tiny letters onto a paper all folded up a mile long into a little box that gets thrown away when the package is opened, most times. Then warnings aren't heeded, and natural methods such as drinking more water, eating more quality whole living plant foods and getting proper exercise and rest just fall to the side.
Think of this, too, when thinking of your independence and freedom to be who you were created to be...What if the system fails? The system fails all the time, to this person or that. I know many, many people personally, including myself, whom it has failed at one time or another. Otentimes this failure results in death, but sometimes only minor problems occur. The question is, though, more to the point, what if the whole system fails? What if the worst thing imaginable happens and there is an emergency situation at hand. What if you couldn't get to where there was medical treatment available, or what if the supplies all ran out? How independent would you be at that moment in time? What would be your ability to survive?
Learn to use the plants, I implore you. They can accomplish so much! The right plant can stop you from bleeding to death. Yarrow is such an herb. I've used yarrow before to save my own life. Soldiers lives have even been saved by the use of this herb on the battlefield. It can help with everything from gunshots to nosebleeds. Why would anyone not want to know of this herb?
That is only just one example. There are millions and millions and millions more examples of herbs and other natural elements that can save your life. I don't know anywhere near as much about this as I want to know, and I've been studying for years! The one thing through all my studies I've learned, though, is that the answer is always there, and it is always readily at hand. Prayer, for instance, when properly applied, can most certainly save someone's life. When I say properly applied, I say that, because prayer is not meant to change the will of God, for the will of God is always Good, but rather it is to change our awareness of this and our level of willingness to comply. It is like this in all healing We need to be aware of our innate ability to heal and then be willing to apply this inner awareness in practical ways in our life.
Practicality is at the heart of healing. If it's not practical, then what good is any of it? Healing is meant to be simple, practical and available to all. The most practical healing is that we can do for ourselves and our loved ones. The kindest thing we can do is to help others in achieving this goal. Healing is as simple as knowing where to place your hand on your body and how to direct the Healing Energy of God through the mind. This is the proper use of the will,m in aligning our will with the Will of God, which is healing of the mind, body and spirit of all.
Healing happens in so many ways when we open ourselves to the Healing Energy present in all of Life. It's in our body, our mind and our heart, and it's in every living atom of life. Cling to life, and it will cling to you. Natural healing is Life Medicine. It cannot be conveyed through that which does not promote life. There is no life in artificial medicine. That's why it's artificial. It's fake. It is so easy to see even by definition, that natural is natural and fake is fake! Common sense doesn't seem so common these days.
LET'S MAKE COMMON SENSE COMMON AGAIN AND GIVE FOLK MEDICINE BACK TO THE FOLKS!
Let's share traditions and knowledge with one another, and let's work together, as One, in healing the world! God's will for the world is to LIVE in Goodness and Love!

With the purpose of expanding our understanding of Godâs healing Power and of applying this understanding toward healing ourselves and the world, we join together as an interfaith church.
Holding religious freedom as sacred, we are committed to no doctrinal test of membership other than the desire to "Do that which is right.â
Our common thread is our belief in the Healing Power inherent in all of life. We refer to this Power as God, taking care not to infringe upon anyoneâs right to view God in accordance to their own individual beliefs.
We worship together in the Spirit of Truth, Love and Harmony. We welcome into our fellowship all peaceful seekers of Wisdom and Light.
We open ourselves to the ever-unfolding awareness of the presence of God in all aspects of life.
In humility and gratitude, we accept the responsibility of promoting the well-being of all. We support each other in this healing initiative. We dedicate our efforts to this sacred cause.
*****
What does this mean? This means we are cheerfully and diligently accepting the calling to share with the world the awareness of God's healing gifts. This means we are to share our hearts, our minds, our efforts. This means we are offering ourselves as open-channels for God's healing work, understanding always that God is Love, God is Life, God is Good. In this belief we understand that God's will for us is always good, and that all of our needs are abundantly provided for through the Love and Grace of a merciful Power much greater than our own limited thinking could ever conceive. This Power is Life. It is in us and in all of nature. This Power is available and active in us every moment that we are alive. Remember, this Power is always Good...Always Love.
Breathe......Think about that thought for a moment. Always Love and Goodness in you, supplying all of your needs...this Power running through all of nature. The only time things go wrong is when we intercede through the improper use of free will, and mess it up for us and/or someone else. Everyone is not to blame. It is a sickness that runs through this world. BUT what we are here to help each other to learn is that the Power for Good is still LIVING in each of us NOW!
Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center is here to help in the effort of healing the world, by reminding us that we're ALL meant to be healers! We are created in the Perfect image of God!
Our bodies are perfectly and intricately designed in the most incredible manner...to LIVE! And the earth and the air and the water...all perfect matches to what we need...to LIVE! Everything is set up for us to live, and to live very well. We have the perfect food for out bodies given to us in the form of herbs, seeds, nuts, fruits, vegetables, whole grains...all for free, and all capable of replenishing itself! The system is GOOD, as is God!
Our minds are likewise perfectly designed to carry forth our commands and to reason with others, creating our own little world in this big world of us all. Our minds are extremely powerful, and capable of so many things, as history and science have shown. We are capable of much, much more than we currently use our minds to do. Our mind is our conscious link with the Mind of God...the All-Knowing Universe...and it is only limited by our ability to open it up to the Source of all Good, Life and Love. Through the proper use of the mind, we surely, surely can heal.
Spirit is where we turn for our guidance, in knowing how to find the proper balance of body and mind. Spirit is the leader, always, of the three aspects of being, for this aspect is the essence of us which is eternal. Spirit is housed in a physical body and served and/or limited by the mind of man, but Spirit is our direct link with Love, and Love is the greatest healer of all. God in us is made active through Love.
For true healing to occur, it must be based in the spirit, agreed to by the mind, and carried forth in the body. For this reason we form as a Church, ever reminding us in holistic practice to place Love as the highest value and guide.
In the spirit of Love, we wish to offer practical solutions to healing challenges. We wish to facilitate the process of bringing the healer in each of us out. We wish to provide an environment conducive to mutual learning, always centered in faith and in love. We, as individuals all have our shortcomings and difficulties, but as a group, we can lift each other up, seeing the good in each other and in ourselves and the rest of the world.

THANK YOU, from Dr. Jody Evans, on behalf of Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center, to all the people who have helped in bringing this vision forth into manifestation.
Thanks to my mother, Frances Eshelman, for inspiring me, teaching me, leading the way, believing in me, listening to me, trusting me in her healing journey, and always, always giving me unconditional love.
Thanks, too, to my father, Ronald Eshelman, for giving me roots, and for teaching me good basic values. Iâm grateful for his example of giving back to the community, and not only being a seeker, but also an assistant and leader in the quest for Truth and Righteousness sake.
Thank you to the rest of my family and all of friends, for giving me love and support through the years, and mostly to my husband, Dean Evans, who stands by my side in this work and gives substance to so many dreams. We would not be joining together in this place today if not for him.
Thank you, mostly to God, for abundantly and graciously providing for all our needs, to the following people and also to the countless participants, readers, helpers, leaders, teachers, volunteers, group members and others who have shared their presence with us!

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me. It starts with my own peace of mind, with recognizing and appreciating the peace which lies still in us all, and with expressing love to the world, because with love, there we find peace.
Peace implies a sense of "all-rightness." It happens when we release our idea of what we think ought to be and embrace the idea of what is. Acceptance and gratitude are integral parts of the experience of peace. It occurs not only when we stop fighting, but when we actually realize that we are blessed.
Peace comes with honesty. When we feel the need to lie to ourselves or to others, acceptance of the TRUTH is not in place, and we are still fighting the reality of whatever it is that we cannot honestly face.
Peace comes with treating each other with love and respect. This also goes for ourselves. We have to love and respect ourselves first before we can give it to somebody else. That's a lot of why peace always must begin first with me. If we are fighting with our own thoughts and feelings and are unable to forgive ourselves for the mistakes that we make, then how can we forgive someone else?
Peace comes in stillness. Meditation is one way to bring inner peace to our mind. Just "be" in this moment in time. Go out into nature and just listen to the sound of the birds, the insects, the frogs, the leaves and grasses as they blow in the breeze. Feel the sun on your face. Relax and know you are a part of it all. You are the same as the bug on the blade of grass next to you...living together in this environment we all call our home.
Make choices in your life that will bring you peace. If you know something's not right, then don't do it! To act against what you know is the right thing to do is to bring guilt and remorse to your soul. These are in congruent with peace.
Think peaceful thoughts of acceptance towards others. Stop yourself when you start to criticize others (and of course yourself) and send a blessing instead. Forgiveness goes a long way to creating peace in the world. Forgiveness doesn't imply that someone who has wronged you is right. It means that you are "giving for."
Find peace in your breathing. Take time to notice your breathing pattern. Do you breathe slowly and deeply, exhaling completely? To focus on your breathing will help you learn peace. When your body and brain do not get the proper oxygen balance a slight panic occurs all through your system. Breathing techniques have been used in meditation since the beginning of time. Through conscious effort to focus on breathing, we can bring other bodily functions back into balance and we can also give our body its proper rest.
Good health is the natural result of peace in our body, with everything working together the way that it should. Peaceful living, eating, sleeping, thinking, loving, breathing...these things bring harmony and balance about. Forcing the body with drugs creates conflict inside. Drugs force the body to behave in a particular way, taking control of the natural bodily functions instead of supporting the body in healing itself. Offering support to the body in the way of nourishment, herbs, exercise, rest, etc., restores natural balance and health instead of just fighting the symptoms.
Are we peaceful in our outlook towards politics? It's easy to get very enraged when we are controlled as a nation by influences acting in a manner contrary to what we believe in. Peace does not mean to lie down and take it, but it does mean to not just continue bickering on and on with each other. To do so is to allow those influences to further control us. Becoming peacefully engaged in social change is not contrary to peace. Hating, blaming and resenting is. Pray for those in power to become enlightened, give thanks for whatever role for good they are playing, and work peacefully toward the end of helping others to see the truth in a non-threatening way.
Making peace with our environment is also important. How can we have peace in our mind and body if we are fighting against our own nature? Yes, OUR nature! We are a part of all of nature, so to hurt any of it, is to hurt us. When we squander our resources, we waste that which is there to support us. "RE-sources" implies that we should be able to RE-turn to the source again and again, but if we have squandered them, then where are we to turn? Frantically searching for a replacement for that which was created perfect for us then destroyed does not bring images of peace to my mind! Knowing our needs are abundantly fulfilled, on the other hand, does. The earth was created to support life on earth. Otherwise we'd have been extinct long ago! Find peace in trusting the earth.
Make peace with life. ALL life! Make peace with your fellow-creatures and think about how they are treated and your part in it all. Are you a participant in the torture that is being inflicted on many of them? Would you consider yourself a peaceful person if you routinely killed dogs or cats? Then what makes it different with chickens, cows, pigs, lambs, fish, rabbits, monkeys, minks, foxes, elephants, seals, deer, mice and others who are routinely tortured and/or killed for our....pleasure? What else would you call it?
We certainly can find ways to eat without killing. That has been proven time and again by the millions of vegans worldwide. As a matter of fact, it is known to be the healthier way for us to eat. So the violence displayed routinely on dinner plates is nothing but violence to please the senses. That's all. And what of furs? Leather jackets? Wool? Are we not warm without them? They are purely for vanity's sake. How can this be justified in a world of peace? It cannot. Neither can it be justified to use animals in laboratories, testing cosmetics...and yes...even drug testing is an unnecessary cruelty inflicted on them. Natural cures are superior and do not need animals to die in order for us to live, and also there are superior ways for medical testing to be performed. Animal testing performed today is to avoid the cost of implementing a new system. It has nothing to do with efficacy, just monetary investment, that's all.
Choices we make every day affect lives. For us to ignore this and cry out for peace does not make any sense. Are will willing to pay the price for peace? The price is that we, ourselves, must stop being selfish and cruel. It is not enough that we expect the government to set standards which promote peace in our everyday lives. It's up to us. Face it. There's a lot of ugly, horrible, violent, cruel things going on in the world, and the government and most of the people turn a blind eye. There will never truly be peace anywhere as long as there is violence being ignored. There are many, many cultural practices which involve cruelty. For instance, how was your morning cup of coffee produced? Was it fair trade? If not, then most likely, the equivalent of child slavery was involved in that cup. I ask you, do you think that child is at peace knowing you paid a little bit less? Peace comes with doing the absolute best that you can. Otherwise you can't sleep at night, unless you ignore it all and then live in a state of unawareness. Afterall, ignorance is bliss, so they say. But there is a much greater bliss in true peace.
Peace occurs when we think of the bigger picture to that which is beyond our senses and our desire for more than our share. Peace comes with the contentment of knowing all our needs are fulfilled without harming each other. It's when we get into stealing, hurting, lying, cheating, arrogance, avoidance and worrying that we lose our peace. Peace is based in faith, not in fear. It is based in love, not in indifference or hate. Ignoring the truth will not bring it about, but rather living in the Truth of our Oneness with All.
This may sound hard to the human mind, but in the mind of God, Love is ALL that there is. You will find the peace that passes all understanding when you focus on the goodness and love, within and without, all around, running through all of life.
How are you creating peace in your life today? Take this one day to examine your thoughts...are they loving? Are they based in faith? Are they forgiving? Take time today to relax and reflect upon the goodness and plenty of life. Just for today. Live in just this one day, today. Take this opportunity today, as well, to think about the choices you make on your dinner plate, in your closet, in your medicine chest...are they reflective of peace? Look, too, at your relationship with the person you see in the mirror. Make peace with that person first! Now, look to those whom you fear, despise, resent, or just plain don't like. Can you say a prayer for them, too? Anything less will only take away from the peace of the world. Peace only will come through lifting each other and ourselves up into the Light of Love. It's up to each of us now.
