This is Jodie, she is a 14 yr old BLM Mustang Mare. Jodie was almost a statistic in that the eventuality of her going to slaughter was a real possibility. Then she would have become one of the 100,000 horses that do go to slaughter annually. She has been starved, abused & beaten (whip marks on face). She is but one Wild Horse rescue and this is her, story
click the link above to continue to read about the heart of "jodie" the mustang, and after 14 years in the hands of mankind. photos of jodie to be seen also.
June 2010
3 horses were found in desperate and emanciated condtions in a junk yard.
one of them a little mustang, we have named "jodie".
her BLM govt. brand indicates that she was captured in 96-97 and that she is approximately 14 years old now. also that identified is that she is from a wild Nevada herd.
she is still in critical condition and under the care of a private individual. her recovery will be long and hard the next two months if she survives thru this process.
"jodie" may also be pregnant to add worse to bad. she was confined with a intact 2-3 yr old stallion, along with another dapple grey mare (also with serious cuts/infections to her body).
"Jodie" is a broken spirited horse, there is no hope in her eyes, or her body. She has no trust of humans of any kind. Althou she has given up the spirit to fight, or object to being handled, or cared for.
On her body is the war scars and signs of abuse, and mistreatments, from deep scars to sever saddle sores. whip marks that will never go away that were of the years in the hands of mankind.
the misery and sorrow, the pain and torture, and i can't even imagine the fears that she has had to deal with silently and inside of herself over these years. ??!!
to read more of how "jodie" was found, and rescued, where she is and where she is going now after her many years in the hands of mankinds unkindness and cruelty, read at these 2 mustang groups on care2. photos are included of the Jodie and other Mare that was rescued.

It's hard to believe a year has passed since our involvement in the 3 Strikes Ranch Rescue in Nebraska. I have made a short slideshow to re-tell the story for those who don't know it.
Hope you enjoy it.

Since 1996, Ernie Paragallo's family-owned Paraneck Stable has been among the nation's leading racing outfits.
Paragallo has been a fixture in New York racing, starting 4,686 runners and earning $20.6 million in purses. He owns half of Unbridled’s Song, who is one of the most successful sires in thoroughbred racing and commands a $125,000 stud fee.
Paragallo, Horse Breeder, Is Indicted on Animal Cruelty Charges
Paragallo’s Center Brook Farm in Climax, N.Y., was raided in April, and he was charged with 22 counts of animal cruelty after the New York State Police and the Humane Society/Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Greene and Columbia Counties found that many of his more than 170 horses were malnourished.
Paragallo, 51, will be arraigned Aug. 18. He is free on $5,000 bail.
After receiving a report of neglected horses at a Greene County horse farm, State Police executed a search warrant and removed 177 horses they said were malnourished. http://www.pet-abuse.com/cases/15421/NY/US/RSS/#UPDATES

Multiple charges of animal cruelty are pending against Paragallo in Greene County; each count carries a punishment of up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The police entered Paragallo's Center Brook Farm in Climax, N.Y., about 11 a.m. with two veterinarians, said Ron Perez, president of the Humane Society/S.P.C.A. for Columbia and Greene Counties.
"Veterinarians looked at about 40 horses, and all were in poor shape and several hundred pounds underweight," Perez said.

BORN APRIL 17 2009 DAKOTA! QUARTER HORSE/TENNESSEE WALKER MIXED
The Washington Area Humane Society received numerous calls of concern about a horse farm in North Franklin Township where the animals have been starved by their absent owner. Newly sworn-in Humane Officer, Matt Walsh’s first encounter at the Bedillion Road farm on Friday, February 20th left him horrified at the sight of the emaciated frames. Worse than that were the horses that were no longer standing, several of them dead on the frozen ground.
Walsh and WAHS manager and Humane Officer Lorie Schooley, quickly put their hands on some hay bales and hauled them to the starving animals. As soon as the government buildings opened in Washington, PA this Monday morning, Walsh obtained a warrant that is a “seizure in place” version which allows for help to reach the horses without the necessity of moving them immediately, while simultaneously barring the owner from setting foot on the property.
“Although a creek runs through the property,” explains Walsh, it has been contaminated by the decaying carcasses of the dead horses.
WAHS is seeking emergency help from the public. Any hay that can be spared — the 29 remaining horses can easily chew through 30 square-bales per day — and help with relocation of the horses is badly needed. Monetary donations will be used to purchase hay as well, while homes are sought for the animals..
Anyone who is willing to foster, adopt or otherwise house any of these unfortunate horses should call the Humane Society at 724-222-7387. Please leave a message with your name and number if you get voicemail.
Charges of animal cruelty are pending against the owner.
