I think it has been about a year or so since I last logged into Care2. I had even forgotten my login information. I am going to try to remember to log on here more. I think I just stopped because it seemed like everyone else was leaving & we were talking on Twitter & Facebook instead of gathering here on Care2. I have to admit though I miss the atmosphere on Care2. Here we gather for a common cause but on other sites it seems like just places to play games or post CONSTANT status updates that have nothing to do with anything important. I think I will be coming back to this community on Care2 because there are some wonderful people doing wonderful things. I'm back & hope to hear from ya'll soon.
Life has been pretty hectic here. But, the scariest thing just happened within the past couple of days.
My mother & dog had been exhausted all the time, had no energy, & were sleeping WAY too much. One morning I noticed the Carbon Monoxide detector was reading 32. I called our local fire department & they came out & found leaking was coming from our furnace. Their meters were reading up to 38 once they walked into the house. So, I had to have our gas company come out & shut off the gas until the furnace guy came in. He said that the leak was minimal but he guestimated it had been leaking for the past 2 months! Since I work 3rd shift & the furnance turns on mostly at night it wasn't affecting me but the fire department said it would have been just a matter of time until I came home to a dead mother & dog. So, I had to pay over $2,300 for a new furnace. It was just installed today. The doctor & vet both said since it had been leaking so long (even though it was minimal it adds up) that in about a week my mother & dog should be back to normal. If not, I am to take them back in for another examination. So, that has been what is going on in my world right now.
I will be leaving early Monday morning & won't be back until sometime August 25th. We are moving my sister to College in Vermont (2 day drive) so wish us luck. I am going w/my sister (of course), her best friend (my "adopted sister"), my mother, & my stepfather. My mother & stepfather are divorced & can't really stand each other so wish us luck. I apologize for not being able to reply to messages, comments, etc... for awhile. I hope ya'll have a great week. I will talk w/ya when we get back.
Sorry I haven't been active here in awhile. Things have been pretty hectic. My baby sister just graduated high school on Saturday & her graduation party was on Tuesday. Now, we are getting ready to take her to college in August. This is all going too fast. It seems like just yesterday I was picking her up from grammer school & walking her home listening to her talk nonstop about everything she learned. Now, she is all grown up & leaving. On top of her leaving, all of her friends who became my "adopted" brothers & sisters, who I watched grow up right along with her are all getting ready to leave. They are going as close as Chicago to as far away as Vermont. Maybe I'm just weird but I feel like I'm losing a whole family. I have been pretty sad lately but I don't really have the time to be. Between getting my sister ready for college & attending my "adopted" brothers & sisters graduation parties I have barely any time left for anything other than work. So, I ask for your patience & understanding if I am not able to keep in touch with you guys & girls as much as I would like to. Just give me a couple of months to get through this craziness. I will be online once in a great while but not as often as I am used to. I will talk with ya'll later. Jess
This weekend I saw the movie "The Bucket List". It was definitely one of the best I have seen in awhile. I have to be honest & say I wasn't sure if they could make a movie about two men dying of cancer without being a dark, somber, crying all the time film. It has some of those moments but it also has moments where we all laughed our butts off. That will surely be a movie I will add to my collection once it comes out on DVD. A word of warning though. If you know someone who either has died of cancer or is struggling with it now, it can become emotionally overwhelming. One of my friends lost his father to lung cancer & it brought back a lot of unwelcome memories. But, if this movie teaches us anything it is to enjoy life because it goes by way too fast & is way too precious to waste. If you haven't seen this movie yet, go see it. I know it is difficult to want to get out & spend up to $10 a ticket for a movie, but trust me this movie is worth it.
I am sure some people are going to think this is a stupid thing for me to have done let alone post. But, I received the latest issue of Defenders magazine (published by Defenders of Wildlife). I was disappointed to see that they are selling a LEATHER checkbook cover for their Defenders of Wolves checks. I was going to insert the letter I sent to them, but for some reason it won't let me. Anyways, I basically told them that I understood they are protectors of Wildlife & while a cow is not a cougar or a polar bear, it is still a life. I don't understand how they can call themselves protectors & yet sell something made with the skin of a dead animal. If you agree, please write them a respectful letter (more of a chance they will actually read it & it won't get automatically thrown away) to:

I just want to thank all of you for all of the Birthday messages & comments I have received. There are so many it is really difficult to reply to everyone but I am trying my best. I had a wonderful birthday. My mother & sister took me out for breakfast once I got off of work Friday morning. Then, that night my father & sister took me to Beloit RiverFest to see Blue Oyster Cult & Cheap Trick in concert. I had a blast. I was depressed about turning 26 but I still was able to have fun. I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.
Saturday morning Lisa (my sister) woke up with such a bad headache that she was vomiting. We called her doctor & he said to get her into the emergency room as soon as possible. She was so dehydrated when we got there that they had problems getting an I.V. started. She was in the hospital for about 6 hours. They released her but she really has to keep pushing the fluids & now she is on pain medication that has BOTH Tylenol & Vicadin & they put her on anti nausea medication. She spent the rest of Saturday sleeping & most of Sunday in bed. She did go to 2 graduation parties today but dad drove her & watched her VERY closely. Once she got home though, she went straight to bed. We are very worried because we are noticing a lot of short term memory loss. She doesn't remember things we say or do just an hour before. She sometimes doesn't even remember things she says or does. We are going to speak with her doctor Monday & find out if we are looking at long term damage or if this is just for a short while. Lisa is worried because she is extremely smart & in a lot of AP (college prep) courses in High School. Her senior year is next year & she is terrified that she won't be able to make it. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Is this a long term thing?
I went to the hospital when I got off work Thursday morning. I found out when I got up there that the doctor was in the process of filling out the release paperwork. It took until about noon for it to finally be finished, but once we got Lisa home, she went straight to bed. She still has to be on the anti seizure medication for about a week but she is getting back to her old self. We are VERY happy & relieved. Thank you for all the prayers.
