This is not a bloody video. Still, I defy anyone who is planning on eating turkey to watch it, and then tell me that they're still going to eat it.

These are newborn babies. What is wrong with us?

Thanksgiving Turkeys

COK Investigation at a North Carolina Turkey Hatchery

Add to My Profile | More Videos

Thanksgiving tradition is about celebrating life—and a growing number of Americans are choosing to do so by serving delicious vegetarian fare that everyone, including the turkeys, can be thankful for.

The average American consumes 17 pounds of turkey meat per year, resulting in the annual slaughter of 252 million turkeys—more than 65 million of whom are killed during the winter holiday season alone. The vast majority of these intelligent birds spend their entire lives intensively confined inside massive sheds and will never set foot outside. Sadly, they are viewed as little more than meat-producing machines. In the 1960s, it took 220 days to raise a 35-pound turkey. Due to selective breeding and growth-promoting drugs, it now takes only 132 days. Such fast growth causes turkeys to suffer from a number of chronic health problems.

There are no federal laws in the United States protecting turkeys (or other birds raised for food) from such cruelty.

Holiday events often focus on meals shared with family and friends. So why not share your compassion by carving up a savory
Tofurky? This delicious meat-free roast is sure to please everyone!

Every year nearly 300 million turkeys are tortured and killed for food in the United States. Of those, 45 million are killed just for Americans' Thanksgiving dinners. This year say, "No, thanks," to eating dead turkey.

Happy holidays!

Some traditions should be broken. Show some REAL thanks by withholding from your conspicuous consumption.

NOVEMBER 24th, 2006 = BUY NOTHING DAY!

On November 24, the day after Thanksgiving (aka "Black Friday"), is the biggest day of consumption in the American year. America's population (300million) is only 5% of the total human population but consumes almost 50% of the worlds resources.

Meanwhile, 3 billion people, about half of the worlds population, lives on less than 2 dollars a day. If you think consumerism is spiraling out of control and is determining the fate of our country participate by non participation. Buy nothing on November 24.

"I believe that Gandhi's views were the most enlightened of all the political men in our time. We should strive to do things in his spirit: not to use violence in fighting for our cause, but by non-participation in anything you believe is evil. - Einstien"

This was started by adbusters.org.

and for my bit--

("thanksgiving" in summation: white supremacy is celebrated {genocide of the indigenous}by the mass slaughtering of turkeys that are consumed in excess and the following day people spend loads of money to fill a void...)

We consume far more ice cream, cheese and other dairy products than our brothers in India. Should we consider cutting some of that down?

Dairy is deadly to our fellow cows. Not to mention inhumane and cruel.

Even though most people have never visited a slaughterhouse, the panic, dread, and terror that await innocent creatures, and the gruesome sights and sounds which emanate from these hidden "houses of death" are not at all difficult to imagine. What many people do not realize is that these same horrors are the fate of every factory-raised dairy cow and every hen at commercial egg farms.

Milk's Got More....Cruelty

A dairy cow's life is a continuous cycle of impragna-tion, birth, and milking to provide one thing only -- a constant supply of milk for human consumption and profit. She will be milked for 10 months out of the year, including seven months of each of her consecutive nine-month pregnancies. Two to three times a day, seven days a week, she will be attached to an electric milking machine, like just another cog in a factory. Then she will be returned to her cramped, narrow, concrete stall to do nothing but await the next milking.

Within hours after giving birth, the cow's calf will be forcibly taken from her. Male calves will be sold for pet food, killed at just a few days old to make "bob veal", or raised for beef. Others will be auctioned to producers of "formula-fed veal". On veal farms, male calves are confined in tiny crates to restrict their movement in order to keep their muscles tender. They are fed an iron-deficient diet which causes severe anima but which keeps their flesh white, making it more valuable when they are sold for meat. Subjected to total sensory deprivation and stripped of any measure of joy, 20% of veal calves will die before even reaching the typical slaughtering age of 16 weeks.

The female calves will be sequestered in tiny stalls in preparation for their enslavement to the dairy industry. When they are old enough to be artificially inseminated, they will begin the drudgery of a dairy cow. Their mother will be promptly put back into intensive milk production, where she will remain at risk for numerous stress related illnesses, infections, and diseases, many of which can be fatal.

A dairy cow will survive a mere four years of this cruel, hollow life, whereas under natural conditions, she might live up to 25 years. At the end of her days, when she can no longer keep up the demanded level of milk production, drained and exhausted, she will be packed onto a crowded truck for transport to her final destination -- the slaughterhouse. After a life of slavery and servitude, her retirement gift will be to end up like her fellow "food animals" -- on somebody's plate. All vegetarians, especially those who continue to drink milk while unwittingly clinging to the myth that it is benignly begotten, should be outraged to know that 40% of America's hamburger is made from "spent" dairy cows.
The Incredible, Inedible Egg

On factory egg farms, laying hens are housed in intensive confinement buildings where up to 100,000 birds are crammed into a single warehouse in stacked rows of bare wire cells called "battery cages". Four to six laying hens are crowded into each cage about the size of a folded newspaper, unable to stretch their wings, walk, or even roost. Because of this inability, hens' feet frequently grow directly around the bare wire of their cages.

To reduce stress-induced pecking and fighting resulting from over-crowding, the hens' beaks are painfully severed at the tip. This delicate tissue is amputated without the use of anesthesia, using a hot knife or a crude guillotine-like device. Debeaking causes excruciating pain and severe shock and frequently results in death.

Hens are also forced to undergo a production process known as "forced molting". This common egg industry practice involves denying the birds food and water for days on end in order to shock their systems into another egg laying cycle. Ultimately, this destroys a hen's immune system and greatly increases the risk of salmonella contamination of her eggs.

Although a hen in a natural environment might live to be 15 to 20 years old, at the age of just 18 months, when she is no longer capable of producing eggs at the rate required to be lucrative for the business, she, like her sister the dairy cow, will meet her demise in the abyss of the slaughterhouse. Here she will be ground into pet food or boiled for chicken soup.

Many people naively view dairy and egg production as less abusive than meat production because milk and eggs do not necessitate the immediate deaths of the cows and chickens that produce them. Clearly, dairy and egg farms not innocuous industries as so many of us have been led to believe. Their alliance with animal abuse and slaughter is inextricable and undeniable.
But What About "Humane" Farms?

"Free-Range" Eggs

Although "free-range" hens are generally given more space to live in than hens kept in battery cages, there is no uniform, industry standard defining how "free-range" hens must be housed. The hens may simply be put into larger cages than their sisters who live on factory farms. In addition, it is common for "free-range" layers to be debeaked just like battery cage layers. But even if "free-range" hens were given all the space they could use and an environment in which they could fulfill normal social and behavioral needs, they will still be killed for meat when their egg production rates drop off, usually after just one or two years. And, like other "free-range" animals, they are subjected to the horrors of abusive handling, transportation, and slaughter.

Another problem inherent with ALL egg production involves the disposal of unwanted male chicks at the hatchery. Because males don't lay eggs and because egg-type strains of chickens don't grow fast enough to be raised profitably for meat, the baby male chicks are discarded shortly after hatching. There is no incentive for producers to spend time and money to euthanize these chicks which they consider to be a liability. Hence, male chicks are killed by the cheapest and easiest means available. Typically these include suffocation or being ground up alive. All egg hatcheries commit these atrocities whether they provide hens for factory farms or "free-range" farms.
"Organic" Milk

Cows' milk is intended for calves, not humans, so whenever cows' milk is taken by humans, calves are denied what is rightfully theirs. Milk production, whether on a small dairy farm or on a large, intensive confinement facility causes animal suffering and death.

For a cow to produce milk she must bear a calf. Most cows on modern dairy farms are forced to have a calf every year. The female calves are used to replace worn out, less productive cows in the milking herd. While dairy cows living on less abusive dairies may live longer and suffer somewhat less than cows in intensive production, ultimately ALL dairy cows end up at the slaughterhouse.

Unlike female calves born to dairy cows, male calves cannot produce milk. Therefore, they are used solely for meat. The veal industry was created as a direct result of the dairy industry. It was developed in order to capitalize on the millions of male calves born to dairy cows each year. This ongoing alliance among the dairy, veal, and beef industries occurs whether the farms are "organic" or intensive, factory-style operations.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) is Total Bullshit.

Truth goes through three stages:

-First it is ridiculed

-Then it is violently opposed

-Finally it is accepted as self-evident
-Schopenhauer

It's pink ribbon time so time to raise money and walk for a cure? Right? Wrong - the last thing the “cancer cure industry” wants is a cure for cancer. Rima Laiblow, MD, Medical Director of the Natural Solutions Foundation writes, "After all, cancer is the single most economically productive disease in the history of mankind. Never mind that valid, successful and inexpensive cures for cancer are ruthlessly suppressed by the cancer industry, including the shameful performance of my profession, organized medicine. Pink Ribbon Season means well crafted messages to maneuver women all over America to have mammograms and undergo dangerous and often unnecessary treatment for it in the common event that the diagnosis of breast cancer is wrong."

"Breast Cancer Awareness Month is, simply put, a corporate strategy , sponsored by, among others, Astra Zeneca, which makes Tamoxifen. Every word, walk and wink associated with the ubiquitous pink ribbon must pass their approval process," Dr. Laibow explains. Perhaps you have noticed that, under the guidance of the pharma-funders of the charitable cause, &ldquorevention” has become “early detection” and early detection means, pure and simple, mammogram$$$.

So what's wrong with mammorgrams? According to the National Cancer Institute numbers, a decade of screening a woman's breasts should increase cancer risk by 20%!. Mammorgrams are also shockingly bad at finding cancers, according to Dr. Samuel Epstein, in his book The Politics of Cancer. He notes that the false negative rate is about 40% among women ages 40-49, and he got these numbers from The National Institutes of Health! They also say mammograms miss 20% of malignant tumors in women. Mammograms may also spread existing cancer as painful pressure is applied to the breast causing cancer cells to spread before immune processes can kill them (which a healthy immune system does routinely).

In fact, Dr. John W. Gofman, an expert on the health impact of ionizing radiation, believes that 75% of breast cancer can be prevented by avoiding ionizing radiation (like in mammograms, at conventional dentist's, CAT Scans, etc). So why don't you hear about this on prime-time TV? Well it would be very bad news for the people who make mammography equipment or who sell the cancer drugs (who also fund the major news networks' airtime). Prevention is, unfortunately, very bad business if you make detection equipment or treatment options for a preventable condition such as breast cancer. It's also not a good news story if the pharmaceutical companies pay almost half of all the airtime for all the news networks!

So what does Dr. Laibow recommend to her patients instead of mammography? Thermography - which detects cancer sooner, far more accurately and with no harm at all to the body since it relies on heat emitted by your body and takes a sensitive heat picture of your body. She explains, "...Because malignancies grow extra blood vessels, they emit more heat so they are detectible early and without danger."

Maybe it's time we actually turn October into Break Through the Breast Cancer Propaganda Month rather than letting the Cancer Industry promote harmful mamograms and cancer drugs. Major health charitable causes usually act as corporations only caring about the bottom line. All that money is given to "researchers" who are on a never-ending gravy train and whose entire career is build of a cure never being found. The medical establishment wants people to get breast cancer, that's why they pressure women into getting radiation shot into their breasts and body each year under the guise of 'early detection.' Millions have been spent on traditional 'research' which seems to line the pockets of wealthy charities and the drug industry without ever finding a cure.

To me, it is inconceivable that a miraculous "cure" will ever be found. Imagine them announcing the cure for breast cancer (or any cancer or any disease) all over the news and in the papers one day soon? No - it just seems so unbelievable, like a dream almost. How about anytime in the next 50 years? Nope - i can't imagine it.

On the other hand, let me totally contradict myself. There are at least dozens if not a few hundred cures for cancer - many have been banned because they would put the cancer industry out of business. Just look up in the library or online the history of 'Royal Rife." In short, he developed a frequency instrument that 'zapped' cancer cells and killed them without damaging normal tissue. This technology is similar to how when an opera singer hits a certain note, the mirror cracks. (Nothing else cracks, just the mirror. Unlike chemotherapy which attacks cancer cells along with healthy cells). Yet this technology was persecuted and censored. No, Royal Rife was not a quack, he was actually the inventor of the universal microscope!

Time and time again inventors have been persectued and jailed for finding cures for dozens of diseases. There is a natural cure for every single disease or adverse health condition that does not require drugs or surgery. The American Medical Association and the Journal of American Medicine admit that 100,000 Americans die every year from side-effects of prescription or over-the-counter drugs! Up to 2.5 million are injured every year! Vioxx was not an isolated case - however, since the Bush Administration has taken office, only a couple drugs have been officially recalled compared to the dozens in the 1990's. Maybe that has to do with the financial backing of Bush and the Republican's election campaigns, who they were the LARGEST funders for (industry-wise).

Did you know that in Germany, there is a cure for Prostate Cancer. But in the U.S. the treatment cannot legally be considered a "cure" because the Food and Drug Administration has passed a regulation saying that 'only a drug can prevent, cure, or treat a disease.' This is why you get more and more things being called a "disease." For example, acid reflux disease, which used to be just "heartburn"; now is apparently a chronic condition. Now, only a drug can legally say on the package that it cures acid reflux. A big way for the drug companies to make money. Their ultimate goal is to have as many people worldwide taking as many of their drugs as possible every single day for the rest of your life. Once they have you on one drug, even OTC drugs, the toxic buildup will cause one or more of your organs or bodily systems to go in disarray, causing some other illness, which will end in you going on more meds. It's a snowball effect and they even conspire with the major food manufacturers to put chemicals in the food that make you sick so you can start taking drugs everyday for the rest of your life.

Don't believe any of what I'm saying? Think it's all B.S.? I don't think anyone can deny this truism, "You can get the general public to believe anything with enough money." If your denying this then you obviously don't know the money makes the world go around. Everybody anybody does in this world is for money. Why do we get up at the crack of dawn? Why are you in college? Why do we do scholarships? Why do we sue people? Why do we want health insurance? For those of you who don't believe any gigantic lie, just ask yourself, if there was TRILLIONS of dollars at your disposal, wouldn't you be able to have people work around the clock putting ads on TV, writting textbooks for schools, putting subliminal ads in magazines, buying season Jets tickets to all the tri-state doctors, lobbying Congress around the clock, and brainwash people to believe almost anything? Did you know that the top ten global Pharmaceutical companies have more combined wealth than the combined wealth of the other 490 of the Fortune 500 companies? And did you know that they do all those things with all their money in order to ensure their monopoly on medical treatment?

Many of you already know that psychiatric drugs are terrible and how the schools got money for each kid whose parents they were able to convince to go on Prozac. You may have heard about how anti-depressants may be useless and dangerous, causing increased suicidal risks while the companies hide the fact. But do you know about how vaccines actually have caused more outbreaks in disease? Or how thousands of people die a year from seemingly "harmless" Advil? Or how those pain releivers are related to cancer when in fact there are many free or cheap and side-effect-free pain relievers? Or what the natural cure for almost every disease is?

To answer these questions and more, I recommend everyone read the New York Times Best-selling book "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About by Kevin Trudeau along with the follow up "More Natural Cures Revealed: Previously Censored Brand Name Products that Cure Disease." They are available everywhere, but also are available for for free on www.naturalcures.com, minus shipping and handeling. For a list of alternative health and healing websites, and articles exposing pharmaceutical industry/medical establishment/government corruption, see www.myspace.com/fightbigpharma and www.newstarget.com and www.naturalcures.com.

"...Walk for a cure because exercise reduces the risk of breast cancer. Eat for a cure because sensible, natural diets reduce the risk of breast cancer. Laugh for a cure because stress and loneliness reduce immune competence. Pray for a cure because people with sincere religious convictions live longer and healthier than those without them." ~Rima Laibow, MD, Natural Solutions Foundation, www.healthfreedomusa.org

what did they ever do to you?
nothing.

In Spain, at the end of hunting season, when the dogs are of no further "use" to the hunters, they are hanged to death and left to rot.

Some former racing greyhounds continue to be treated badly after their racing days are over. These dogs were kept in filthy conditions while being used for research in a university laboratory, only to end their lives crammed into garbage cans. To us, these ungodly acts show how depraved some human beings can become. Anyone who goes to a dog track or bets on a race is just as guilty of these atrocities as those who tortured and murdered these dogs.

These are the decapitated remains of some "spent" greyhound racing dogs who were sent to a research laboratory to be experimented upon.

Some people don't like to think of other people as being evil, but there should be no misinterpretation of the fact that the torture and suffering inflicted upon this dog was evil.

This is another dog who was killed and burned in front of his or her companions. If you think this is wrong, then remember that here in the United States, we do similar things to other animals when we slaughter them. There's no difference! It all must stop.

If people are sickened when they see a photo like this one, and can still go on and eat their fried chicken and burgers, they are expressing how limited their sphere of compassion really is.

Even the dogs' heads are considered a delicacy. But many people consider a whole roasted suckling pig to be a delicacy, too. There really is no difference.

In the Philippines, dogs are usually sold at markets while still alive, their front limbs dislocated and tied painfully behind their backs, and a jagged tin can rammed over their jaws to make them easier to handle. All in blatant disregard of a law that carries a minimal penalty which the police do not bother to even try to enforce.

Roasted dogs and dog meat on display at the Moran Market near Seoul, Korea. If people think it's wrong to mistreat and eat dogs, then it should be equally wrong to mistreat and eat any other animals, too. Stop the cruelty! Stop eating meat and animal products.

The dog skins are being scraped clean beside this stream. If you don't think it's all right to wear dog fur, then it's not all right to wear the fur of any other animal, either; for they all suffer and die for human greed.

In this photo two men pull on the hind legs of this skinned dog, while a third man cleaves the dog in half. In the United States we have no right to complain about what is done to dogs in other countries, as long as we do the same things to other animals.

These dogs were killed after experiments in the CBSC laboratories, Burlington, USA, 1990. [Courtesy of P.E.T.A. (1980's-1990's)] We have not found one instance where such laboratory research couldn't have been done in the process of helping humans and non-humans in real-life situations.

What is the defect in the human soul that allows some people to imprison certain dogs and experiment on them, and then go home and pat their own dogs on the head as though everything is just fine?

Researchers grafted the head of one dog onto another dog just to demonstrate that they have the power to do so. Such an experiment is absolutely ungodly.

And if there is still any doubt that animal exploitive "sports" attract evil, this decomposed body of a once beautiful greyhound that was left to rot, should dispel any of those doubts. Speak out! Stop the exploitation of animals.

This is another photo is of an Asian puppy mill where the dogs are being bred for their meat and fur. When the babies are in the cage, they provide a small metal plate for the puppies to stand on. This is not done out of kindness, but so that the puppies don't break a leg, which would take away their profits.

see now you know what humans are really capable of. when i saw these pictures it broke my heart into thousands of pieces. why would we do this to the innocent creatures. they wernt put ont his earth for us to kill them for their fur and meat. they were put here for our enjoyment and company. we're supposed to give them a ahoome and love them..not beat them and eat them.same thing goes for all animals. all the cows, pigs, turkeys, cats, dogs, fish, and all those other animals i forgot to metion. we dont need meat to survive..theres pills for protein and beans and rice. we also dont need fur coats. thats pathetic! well..this bulletion was on dogs. who kmnows what i'll find next.

Every second, 911 animals are brutally killed for food in the United States. For the cows, pigs, and chickens who never see the light of day until they are shipped off to slaughter, where they're strung up by their legs and have their throats slit, every day is a "day that will live in infamy." It is ludicrous that many Americans will chow down on a piece of a once-living being's flesh on the very same day they mourn the deaths of others. So ask yourself, who are the real terrorists?

HOW DO VEGANS BECOME VEGAN HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?
Usually they just think about it over time, and then a day comes when they hit a point where they decide they need more power, a new level of separation from the masses, and a greater sense of self and self image... and they just do it.

THINGS YOU SHOULD WATCH:
CHEW ON THIS is a film short, that quickly dispenses 30 reasons to become vegetarian.
EARTHLINGS is an incredible documentary. built by incredible people, that illustrates the entire scope of speciesism.

VITAMIN SUPLIMENTS AND THE ROCKSTAR:
Ok, you need some vitamins true. I dont stress out over these much, and as you can see, Im ok I dont get wobbly and pass out or anything weird, in fact, one could even say I'm in reasonable shape. I dont know anything more than the basics, so, here are the basics.

MULTIVITAMIN: Get one make sure it has a lot of stuff in it.
IRON: This shit you need. I take SLOW-FE because its slow release.
OMEGAS: Iceland has the longest average lifespan of any country in the world cause they eat lost of fishies and get a lot of omega oils You need Omega 3, and a lot of people take fish oil capsules to get it, but vegans take FLAX SEED OIL pills cause they dont wanna eat fish juice. J
B: Get a B complex dont worry if it has like 3 times your daily requirement. Youll only absorb a quarter of it anyway unless you go dancing at industrial clubs a lot then the Chartreuse, Redbull and exercizell make you sop that shit up like a sponge.
CALCIUM / MAGNESIUM: Youre supposed to take it I dont. I like to think that this makes me a more colorful person.
I KNOW I MISSED SOMETHING HERE, but oh well on with the onslaught.

ROCKSTAR: I have a long developed habit of carting around a Rockstar or equivalent energy drink all the time, sometimes 2 a day. I had already decided that this was a nasty habit because 5 different friends said I was gonna kill myself with them and I had heard some horror stories about people having heart attacks at dance clubs and such. However When I VEGANIZED I didnt take anything to balance myself out no multivitamin, no B complex nothing. But I never got sick or weird or ended up really crawling on the floor from nutritional imbalance. WHY? I checked every food product in my life to see if they were secretly supplying me with the vitamins I was missing nothing. The only food I didnt check was the Rockstar because I already knew it was a bad thing. One day I glance at my energy drinks label, and BLAM. Right there. Loaded with vitamins. My Rockstar addiction had facilitated my conversion, and I didnt even know it. Now, I should mention that I'm using the term Rockstar as a generic word for an energy drink there are other ones that are way more vitamin happy. LOST is good. I dont recommend doing this shit I only mention it because its what I did, and I didnt have a transition period. I went from full carnivore to vegan in one night, and I never faltered in the least, so, something went right.

THE MYTHOS AND THE GAME:
A lot of people look at how they eat now, and then look at a vegan, and say, Oh, I could never do that its too hard.
Those people are looking at it in exactly the opposite way that we do as a chore, or a struggle.
Truth is, its pretty easy and its actually pretty fun.
Every vegan I know forms this habit a sort of game and the game is this:
You remember the foods that you miss the most, and then you start the work You find animal friendly replacements for everything in them, and then you make it. You hone it until your vegan version is good you just do it until your VEGAN chorizo and jalapeno pizza kicks the shit out of any other pizza, and your carnivorous friends are gagging for it.
My next thing is gonna be biscuits and gravy Im a winter person, and I used to love going to a breakfast nook in the mountains and getting a big platter-thing of biscuits and gravy It will be done. And after that, I'm going for the impossible fish and chips.

The thing is, that when everybody else cooks, they may be proud of it because what they made is good But when a vegan cooks, they get a whole different pride.
Because while youre doing it, youre expanding minds every person you expose it to will have that much more faith in the walk When they see that you are more like a humanitarian ninja, and less like a tree hugging librarian, its pretty nostalgic because sometimes it actually builds their faith in their own ability to do the right thing.
The world is still under the myth that we just nibble on plates of raw vegetables
They have no idea that what youre eating exists. At least not in a god this is really good / cruelty free incarnation.
In short, cause its healthy, it bolsters the ego and the self image, it opens minds, it saves animals, and once you're in, its all good.

One of the greatest sentences Ive ever heard to this point was this:
I was with a group of people, meat-necks, sporty footballer types they were planning a party a reception, and I expected them to say barbecue, so I had already tuned out, and then the guy says, well hey, its a special occasion, and I want the food to be good, so can we get the vegan girl to do the food? ... I about cried.

THE PETA MYTHS:
People make up crazy things One person posted about hating PETA for crazy nonsensical things that never happened, as well as things done by individual nut-jobs This is my response to him, and any other defeatist or retarded hecklers:

AN ORGANIZATION IS NOT ITS MEMBERS.
Members go out and do things, ON THEIR OWN...
(most of what you hear is rumors and exaggeration. but things do happen)
I work in the Free Tibet campaign... We're generally peaceful people that pride ourselves on awareness and patience. But last year 3 FREE TIBET members strapped themselves with dynamite and blew up Chinese civilians.
DOES THAT MEAN that the FREE TIBET campaign is a radical terrorist movement? No.
Believing that PETA sanctions everything that every malnourished sociopath in the country does in the name of animals, is no more valid than a waiter in Paris believing that YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE, BECAUSE YOU'RE AN AMERICAN, AND THE LAST AMERICAN THAT CAME THRU WAS AN IDIOT. Or that, if you're a Christian, you hate gays, because, I ran into a Christian that hates gays... Thats ridiculous.
People are people, man.
And I'm telling you.... PETA people are good people.
They're thinkers. They have hearts... and above all else... They try.
Which is a lot more than I can say for most groups.

WHY VEGAN BEYOND VEGGIE (the milk thing):
Many people believe that dairy cattle are not made to suffer by the process of modern milk production. Not true. In fact, theyre killed by it. Todays dairy cattle are grossly modified versions of the cows that they once were many generations ago. A cow does not naturally lactate year round. These cows are pumped so full of hormones, that they actually DO by force. They live in slim corrals and give milk to the robot, full time, with no exercise. As a result, their legs never develop enough to support their hormone inflated bodies, and eventually, when they cant hold themselves up any longer they collapse, and are put to death, and replaced. The cattle that our modern dairy cows are evolved from had an average lifespan of 14-16 years. These modern dairy cows now have an average lifespan of 4 We did that. ... Who says you cant change the world huh?

And I think this would be a point to go over

THE BATTERY CAGE THING:
Some vegans boycott Trader Joes because they sell eggs that come from battery cages. I dont do this. I wont. Because I believe in the team mentality. That is to say, that Trader Joes is a family buiz that has done a lot for the cause especially compared to normal food store chain. They were the first to put what they do on the map here in the OC. They started a vegan labeling system, and built the organic food world in the place where I live. They opened the door to a previously nonexistent market so that these other places that are expanding now could even exist, and they never lost their ideals. There is nothing here that they didnt pave the way for so, when I stand in the store and see all the shit that theyve done for us, I wont sit there and crucify them for a single flaw that I hate, any more than I would tell a vegan that their efforts are meaningless because they are wearing leather shoes. Nobodys perfect, and if youre on my team youre on my team. We help each other grow and they day we start raising our guns to each other when there are so many people against us, we have abandoned the principal of combined strength, which is exactly what our actual enemies need us to do.
And so Sun Tzu says in The Art of War.
(I cant believe I just referenced the art of war in application to vegan shopping whos the ninja? Synthians the ninja.)
The point is we talk to them we correct them we write them a letter but we dont abandon our friends.

Now
Q: What is a battery cage?
A: In 15th century France (the dark ages) there was a punishment process known as retention therapywhich was basically the process of completely restraining a person in an upright metal cage that fits the form of the convict in a standing position with their arms at their sides. They would then be left in a completely dark chamber until their demons had been purged. Needless to say, it in now illegal to do this to people...
On to the cage
A battery cage is a harsh tool that factory farmer use to corral chickens.
They make the most use of their production space by making sure that each chicken is in a cage no wider than a chicken. A chicken that lives in a battery cage can never even spread one wing. They spend their entire lives fully restrained in pitch darkness, and then die without that experience. That nightmare, is their entire experience on this planet. Which is why we refer to factory farms as Hell. But the process is called manufacturing.

VEGETARIANISM AND THE ENVIRONMENT:
This list was compiled by a friend who kicks ninja trash, to show me the connection between environmental activism and vegetarianism.

It will let you know very quickly: 1- Why you can't be an environmentalist and still eat meat, and, 2- Why the most effective thing you can do for the environment is GO VEG

1. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
POLLUTION:
The meat industry causes more water pollution
in the United Stated than all other industries combined. The excrement from farm animals is 130 times more than the entire human population, 86,600 pounds per second. Large amounts of this waste is released into the ocean. As a direct result of pig excrement, the deadly microorganism "PHYSTERIA" was born. Physteria has caused largest fish kill in history and is a threat to humans and animals. Physteria creates toxins that dissolve the flesh of fish, which it then consumes, resulting in lesions and causing large-scale kills in fish and in Humans due to contact or eating contaminated sea food. People who have been in affected waters can be affected. Humans who have been in the waters for short times, or even handled the fish, have developed sores and also neurological symptoms such as memory problems. Physteria has over 20 different forms it can assume; in some of which it is an aggressive predator. Physteria is an international biohazard and it's growing.

LAND:
Of all the agricultural land in the US, 87 percent is used to raise animals for food.

WATER:
Raising animals for food consumes more than half of all the water in the United States. It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce a pound of meat, but only 25 gallons to produce a pound of wheat.

DEFORESTATION:
Rain forests are being destroyed at a rate of 125,000 Square miles per year to create space to raise animals for slaughter.

ENERGY:
More than 1/3 of all raw materials and fossil fuels used in the US are used to raise animals for food. Producing a single hamburger patty uses enough fossil fuel to drive a small car 20 miles and enough water for 20 showers.

ECOSYSTEMS:
Our planet is being yanked out of balance with the destruction of land, air, water, and animal life. We have lost respect for nature. If we don't stop destroying the planet and disrespecting every life form on it, eventually we will be forced to, and the results of our actions will be devastating to future generations as well as ours.

WHY...VEGETARIAN? WHY VEGAN? Because it's something anyone and
everyone can do NOW, TO HELP THE PLANET.

INTELLIGENT ARGUMENTS FROM INTELLIGENT PEOPLE:
HI-I.Q. NON-VEGAN: The thing I've learned is that you can't generalize that all meat is bad.
RESPONSE: No... but we do generalize about pain. All meat causes suffering.

(If youd like a broader dissertation on the subject, please read my blog You vs. The Lion bound to action by your own awareness)

There you have it.

You cant follow the path if you wont face the trail.
This is the walk and these are the steps.

What is a Vegan?
Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or poultry. Vegans, in addition to being vegetarian, do not use other animal products and by-products such as eggs, dairy products, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and soaps derived from animal products.

Why Veganism?
People choose to be vegan for health, environmental, and/or ethical reasons. For example, some vegans feel that one promotes the meat industry by consuming eggs and dairy products. That is, once dairy cows or egg-laying chickens are too old to be productive, they are often sold as meat; and since male calves do not produce milk, they usually are raised for veal or other products. Some people avoid these items because of conditions associated with their production.

Many vegans choose this lifestyle to promote a more humane and caring world. They know they are not perfect, but believe they have a responsibility to try to do their best, while not being judgmental of others.

Vegan Nutrition
The key to a nutritionally sound vegan diet is variety. A healthy and varied vegan diet includes fruits, vegetables, plenty of leafy greens, whole grain products, nuts, seeds, and legumes.

Protein
It is very easy for a vegan diet to meet the recommendations for protein as long as calorie intake is adequate. Strict protein planning or combining is not necessary. The key is to eat a varied diet.

Almost all foods except for alcohol, sugar, and fats are good sources of protein. Vegan sources include: potatoes, whole wheat bread, rice, broccoli, spinach, almonds, peas, chickpeas, peanut butter, tofu, soy milk, lentils, kale...

For example, if part of a day's menu included the following foods, you would meet the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein for an adult male: 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup soy milk, 2 slices whole wheat bread, 1 bagel, 2 Tablespoons peanut butter, 1 cup vegetarian baked beans, 5 ounces tofu, 2 Tablespoons of almonds, 1 cup broccoli, and 1 cup brown rice.

Fat
Vegan diets are free of cholesterol and are generally low in fat. Thus eating a vegan diet makes it easy to conform to recommendations given to reduce the risk of major chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. High-fat foods, which should be used sparingly, include oils, margarine, nuts, nut butters, seed butters, avocado, and coconut.

Vitamin D
Vitamin D is not found in the vegan diet but can be made by humans following exposure to sunlight. At least ten to fifteen minutes of summer sun on hands and face two to three times a week is recommended for adults so that vitamin D production can occur.

Calcium
Calcium, needed for strong bones, is found in dark green vegetables, tofu processed with calcium sulfate, and many other foods commonly eaten by vegans. Calcium requirements for those on lower protein, plant-based protein diets may be somewhat lower than requirements for those eating a higher protein, flesh-based diet. However, it is important for vegans to eat foods high in calcium and/or use a vegan calcium supplement every day.

CALCIUM CONTENT OF SELECTED FOODS
Following are some good sources of calcium:

___________________________________________________________

Soy or rice milk,
commercial, calcium-
fortified, plain 8 oz 150-500

Collard greens, cooked 1 cup 357 mg

Blackstrap molasses 2 TB 342 mg

Tofu, processed with
calcium sulfate 4 oz 200-330 mg

Calcium-fortified
orange juice 8 oz 300 mg

Tofu, processed with
nigari 4 oz 80-230 mg

Kale, cooked 1 cup 176 mg

Tahini 2 TB 128 mg

Almonds 1/4 cup 97 mg
___________________________________________________________

Other sources of calcium include: okra, sesame seeds, turnip greens, soybeans, figs, tempeh, almond butter, broccoli, bok choy, commercial soy yogurt...

The recommended intake for calcium for adults 19 through 50 years is 1000 milligrams/day.

Note: It appears that oxalic acid, which is found in spinach, rhubarb, chard, and beet greens, binds with calcium and reduces calcium absorption. Calcium is well absorbed from other dark green vegetables.

Zinc
Vegan diets can provide zinc at levels close to or even higher than the RDA. Zinc is found in grains, legumes, and nuts.

Iron
Dried beans and dark green vegetables are especially good sources of iron, better on a per calorie basis than meat. Iron absorption is increased markedly by eating foods containing vitamin C along with foods containing iron.

Sources of Iron
Soybeans, lentils, blackstrap molasses, kidney beans, chickpeas, black-eyed peas, seitan, Swiss chard, tempeh, black beans, prune juice, beet greens, tahini, peas, figs, bulghur, bok choy, raisins, watermelon, millet, kale....

Comparison of Iron Sources
Here are the iron contents of selected foods:

______________________________________________

FOOD IRON (MG)
______________________________________________

1 cup cooked soybeans 8.8
2 Tbsp blackstrap molasses 7.0
1 cup cooked lentils 6.6
1 cup cooked kidney beans 5.2
1 cup cooked chickpeas 4.7
1 cup cooked lima beans 4.5
1 cup cooked Swiss chard 4.0
1/8 medium watermelon 1.0
______________________________________________

Vitamin B12
The requirement for vitamin B12 is very low. Non-animal sources include Red Star nutritional yeast T6635 also known as Vegetarian Support Formula (around 2 teaspoons supplies the adult RDA). It is especially important for pregnant and lactating women, infants, and children to have reliable sources of vitamin B12 in their diets. Numerous foods are fortified with B12, but sometimes companies change what they do. So always read labels carefully or write the companies.

Tempeh, miso, and seaweed are often labeled as having large amounts of vitamin B12. However, these products are not reliable sources of the vitamin because the amount of vitamin B12 present depends on the type of processing the food undergoes. Other sources of vitamin B12 are fortified soy milk (check the label as this is rarely available in the U.S.), vitamin B12-fortified meat analogues, and vitamin B12 supplements. There are supplements which do not contain animal products. Vegetarians who are not vegan can also obtain vitamin B12 from dairy products and eggs.

Common Vegan Foods
Oatmeal, stir-fried vegetables, cereal, toast, orange juice, peanut butter on whole wheat bread, frozen fruit desserts, lentil soup, salad bar items like chickpeas and three bean salad, dates, apples, macaroni, fruit smoothies, popcorn, spaghetti, vegetarian baked beans, guacamole, chili...

Vegans Also Eat...
Tofu lasagna, homemade pancakes without eggs, hummus, eggless cookies, soy ice cream, tempeh, corn chowder, soy yogurt, rice pudding, fava beans, banana muffins, spinach pies, oat nut burgers, falafel, corn fritters, French toast made with soy milk, soy hot dogs, vegetable burgers, pumpkin casserole, scrambled tofu, seitan.

When Eating Out Try These Foods
Pizza without cheese, Chinese moo shu vegetables, Indian curries and dahl, eggplant dishes without the cheese, bean tacos without the lard and cheese (available from Taco Bell and other Mexican restaurants), Middle Eastern hummus and tabouli, Ethiopian injera (flat bread) and lentil stew, Thai vegetable curries...

Egg and Dairy Replacers
As a binder, substitute for each egg:

1/4 cup (2 ounces) soft tofu blended with the liquid ingredients of the recipe, or
1 small banana, mashed, or
1/4 cup applesauce, or
2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot starch, or Ener-G Egg Replacer or another commercial mix found in health food stores.
The following substitutions can be made for dairy products:

Soy milk, rice milk, potato milk, nut milk, or water (in some recipes) may be used.
Buttermilk can be replaced with soured soy or rice milk. For each Cup of buttermilk, use 1 cup soymilk plus 1 tablespoon of vinegar.
Soy cheese available in health food stores. (Be aware that many soy cheeses contain casein, which is a dairy product.)
Crumbled tofu can be substituted for cottage cheese or ricotta cheese in lasagna and similar dishes.
Several brands of nondairy cream cheese are available in some supermarkets and kosher stores.

Letter to a Shelter Dog *by Randi Bildner*

Dear Shelter-Dog,

I wanted to address this letter to you by name-but sadly, you do not have
one.

I needed to write this letter for many reasons; I have so many things to say
to you, and there is so much that I want you to know.

First and foremost I want you to know that you are loved. You are thought of
and prayed for each and every day by many kind people.

I want you to know that you did nothing wrong: you simply couldn't, for
wrongdoing is not in your nature.

I don't know what cruel twist of fate brought you to this place, but I do
know that you do not deserve to be here.

I don't know it if was decided that you were too large or too small, if you
barked too much or too little, if someone became allergic to you or if it
was simply decided one day that you were an inconvenience.

I don't know if the children that you were given to lost interest in you
when you were not a puppy anymore and no longer considered cute or fun.

I don't know if you became too old or too sick or if your medical problems
became too expensive.

I don't know if you simply lost your way one day.

I am not sure if you were thrown from a car or dropped off by the side of a
road, left behind-you may have waited patiently, bewildered, wondering why
those you loved never came back.

I don't know if your family moved away and decided not to take you.

I don't know if you were tortured-taught to fight against your will, and
when you loyally obeyed you were punished further by being brought here.

I don't know if your owner died not wanting to leave you behind.

What I do know is this: you are important and you are loved.

I do know that I want to hold you and take away your pain. I want to show
you the love and kindness that you deserve.

I want you to know that it breaks my heart when I can't save you.

I want you to know that you are special. Just as special, just as important
as any dog living in a home now-because any of those dogs could be you.

You come in all sizes shapes and colors. You have unique personalities and
behaviors. It saddens me that the beauty of your kind soul will never be
known and cannot be shared from your jail cell.

You may not have a name but you do have a soul and I do know that one day
there will be peace for you.

God will shower you with the love and warmth you deserve. You will run
through the greenest of pastures and feel the warm sun on your face. You
will have your very own toys to play with and a comfortable bed to call your
own. You will never be sick; feel pain or be lonely again.

Your fur will shine and your tail will wag.

You are loved, and you are wanted. Your pleading eyes have burned holes in
the hearts of all of us who love you; this is something that I really want
you to know.

I want to end my letter to you with a promise. I promise that I will work
towards putting an end to shelter life because this is not a place for a
beautiful soul like yours.

I want to look into your loving warm eyes and tell you that there is hope; I
want you to know that this fight will continue for as long as it takes-it
will continue until you are free.

Yes, I Gas Dogs and Cats for a Living.
I'm an Animal Control officer in a very small town in central North Carolina.
I'm in my mid thirties, and have been working for the town in different positions since high school.

There is not much work here, and working for the county provides good pay and benefits for a person like me without a higher education. I'm the person you all write about how horrible I am.

I'm the one that gasses the dogs and cats and makes them suffer. I'm the one that pulls their dead corpses out smelling of Carbon Monoxide and throws them into green plastic bags. But I'm also the one that hates my job and hates what I have to do.

First off, all you people out there that judge me, don't. God is judging me, and I know I'm going to Hell. Yes, I'm going to hell. I wont lie, it's despicable, cold, cruel and I feel like a serial killer. I'm not all to blame, if the law would mandate spay and neuter, lots of these dogs and cats wouldn't be here for me to gas. I'm the devil, I know it, but I want you people to see that there is another side to me the devil Gas Chamber man.
The shelter usually gasses on Friday morning.

Friday's are the day that most people look forward to, this is the day that I hate, and wish that time will stand still on Thursday night. Thursday night, late, after nobody's around, my friend and I go through a fast food line, and buy 50 dollars worth of cheeseburgers and fries, and chicken. I'm not allowed to feed the dogs on Thursday, for I'm told that they will make a mess in the gas chamber, and why waste the food.
So, Thursday night, with the lights still closed, I go into the saddest room that anyone can every imagine, and let all the doomed dogs out out their cages.

I have never been bit, and in all my years doing this, the dogs have never fought over the food. My buddy and I, open each wrapper of cheeseburger and chicken sandwich, and feed them to the skinny, starving dogs. They swallow the food so fast, that I don't believe they even taste it. There tails are wagging, and some don't even go for the food, they roll on their backs wanting a scratch on their bellys. They start running, jumping and kissing me and my buddy. They go back to their food, and come back to us. All their eyes are on us with such trust and hope, and their tails wag so fast, that I have come out with black and blues on my thighs.. They devour the food, then it's time for them to devour some love and peace. My buddy and I sit down on the dirty, pee stained concrete floor, and we let the dogs jump on us. They lick us, they put their butts in the air to play, and they play with each other. Some lick each other, but most are glued on me and my buddy.

I look into the eyes of each dog. I give each dog a name.
They will not die without a name.
I give each dog 5 minutes of unconditional love and touch.
I talk to them, and tell them that I'm so sorry that tomorrow they will die a gruesome, long, torturous death at the hands of me in the gas chamber.
Some tilt their heads to try to understand.
I tell them, that they will be in a better place, and I beg them not to hate me.
I tell them that I know I'm going to hell, but they will all be playing with all the dogs and cats in heaven.
After about 30 minutes, I take each dog individually, into their feces filled concrete jail cell, and pet them and scratch them under their chins.
Some give me their paw, and I just want to die. I just want to die.
I close the jail cell on each dog, and ask them to forgive me.
As my buddy and I are walking out, we watch as every dog
is smiling at us and them don't even move their heads.
They will sleep, with a full belly, and a false sense of security.
As we walk out of the doomed dog room, my buddy and I go to the cat room.
We take our box, and put the very friendly kittens and pregnant cats in our box.
The shelter doesn't keep tabs on the cats, like they do the dogs.
As I hand pick which cats are going to make it out, I feel like I'm playing God, deciding whose going to live and die.
We take the cats into my truck, and put them on blankets in the back.
Usually, as soon as we start to drive away, there are purring cats sitting on our necks or rubbing against us.
My buddy and I take our one way two hour trip to a county that is very wealthy and they use injection to kill animals.
We go to exclusive neighborhoods, and let one or two cats out at a time.
They don't want to run, they want to stay with us. We shoo them away, which makes me feel sad.
I tell them that these rich people will adopt them, and if worse comes to worse and they do get put down, they will be put down with a painless needle being cradled by a loving veterinarian.
After the last cat is free, we drive back to our town.
It's about 5 in the morning now, about two hours until I have to gas my best friends.
I go home, take a shower, take my 4 anti-anxiety pills and drive to work.. I don't eat, I can't eat.
It's now time, to put these animals in the gas chamber. I put my ear plugs in, and when I go to the collect the dogs, the dogs are so excited to see me, that they jump up to kiss me and think they are going to play.
I put them in the rolling cage and take them to the gas chamber. They know. They just know. They can smell the death.. They can smell the fear.
They start whimpering, the second I put them in the box.
The boss tells me to squeeze in as many as I can to save on gas.
He watches. He knows I hate him, he knows I hate my job.
I do as I'm told. He watches until all the dogs, and cats (thrown in together) are fighting and screaming. The sounds is very muffled to me because of my ear plugs.
He walks out, I turn the gas on, and walk out.

I walk out as fast as I can. I walk into the bathroom, and I take a pin and draw blood from my hand. Why? The pain and blood takes my brain off of what I just did.
In 40 minutes, I have to go back and unload the dead animals. I pray that none survived, which happens when I overstuff the chamber. I pull them out with thick gloves, and the smell of carbon monoxide makes me sick. So does the vomit and blood, and all the bowel movements. I pull them out, put them in plastic bags.

They are in heaven now, I tell myself. I then start cleaning up the mess, the mess, that YOU PEOPLE are creating by not spay or neutering your animals. The mess that YOU PEOPLE are creating by not demanding that a vet come in and do this humanely. You ARE THE TAXPAYERS, DEMAND that this practice STOP!

So, don't call me the monster, the devil, the gasser, call the politicians, the shelter directors, and the county people the devil. Heck, call the governor, tell him to make it stop.

As usual, I will take sleeping pills tonight to drown out the screams I heard in the past, before I discovered the ear plugs. I will jump and twitch in my sleep, and I believe I'm starting to hallucinate.

This is my life. Don't judge me. Believe me, I judge myself enough.
