The Ford Motor Company announced on Tuesday morning that it would provide financial protection to car buyers who lose their jobs.

Ford Advantage Plan. As part of its program, Ford says it will provide payment protection in cases of a job loss of up to $700 a month for up to a year on any Ford, Lincoln or Mercury. The program, which ends on June 1, applies to new financed or leased vehicles.“New” means a vehicle that has not been previously titled, which could include 2008 models, although Mr. Farley said there are few of those around.

As the Ford Fusion Hybrid trickles into showrooms, one of the features that Ford is promoting is the car’s LCD-heavy instrument cluster. I got to examine it recently on a spin through Manhattan.
