We have all heard this ONE million times. It comes to us through the media gossips on the rich and famous. It repeats in every sit-com, drama and commercial. It’s retold at your workplace or among your friends. The irrational and emotional woman and the selfish and instinct-driven man that just cannot help himself.
As most of you, I live in one of the countries of the western world. A country that have excelled in prosperity and has been one of the forerunners when it comes to an equal and non-sexist society. Still we have a much longer way to go than most people think. Our women still get 80% of a man’s salary. The boards of our bigger companies have less than 10% women.
But still. Our women are centuries better of than the women of Afghanistan or Saudi-Arabia. Or? Instead of fixating on the expressions of oppression lets look at the motive behind them. The Niqāb (the black face-veil worn by women in countries around the Persian Gulf) covers the woman’s face with only a tiny slit at the eyes. To most westerners it’s easy to see this as a oppressive and obvious sexist way of isolation and placing of guilt. The religious interpretations aside, one of the main reasons for this is (obviously) to hinder the woman to attract other men. And since these men are unable to control themselves around a woman It is best if she doesn’t tempt them. This is currently a big debate in Europe, where several countries are introducing laws against the use of Niqāb (and similar wear), in public areas. This is (of cause) much welcomed fuel on the racist fire, as well as an obvious way to further isolate these women (but that’s an other big discussion).
My point in this is that the Niqab as well as the acceptance of prostitution, both stems from the false notion that it is up to women to adapt to mens “unstoppable urges”, and if this means that she will have to accept to be objectified, then that is what she needs to do. In that sense, cover her up or strip her down IS the same thing.
“The tragedy is that what is obvious to most Europeans when it comes to judging other cultures goes unnoticed by many, when it is a part of our own.”
I've not been in great condition this winter, but now I'm back on track and my "Sickness" is under control. I have a lot in the pipeline and will make an uppdate when it's all starting to move.

The tragedy is that what’s obvious to most Europeans, when it comes to judging other cultures, goes unnoticed by many when it’s a part of our own. “Prostitution, “the oldest job in the world”, “the home of the happy hooker” can never be eradicated, because men cannot help them selves. And because of this, women once again fall victims of men’s inability to control their urges.
“(By some strange fluke of nature, I have been able to live almost forty-seven years without ever being tempted to buy “sex” or force myself on any woman – What’s wrong with me??)
Is it hunter, soldier or murderer, butcher, cave-finder or what??
No of cause it isn't, because this rhetoric smear is only used to belittle and de-humanize women.
By citing history (falsely and beside the point) this is used to confirm something all men should agree upon. That women are for sale.
This is a constant element in almost all pornography, that women will do anything for a couple of bucks. It is the same in the view of dating being instalments on future sex.
As long as a society accepts that women are less, a commodity to please men, much like bear and fishing, this will NOT be an equal society.
It do not matter how many women there is in boards and what they earn as long as this de-humanizing continues. It is filling us with hate!
Prostitution is a social problem stemming from poverty and injustices. But a lot comes down to attitudes and resorces.
If our societies put more resourses on to fight trafficing, slavery and sexual-abuse and gave much more active help to the victims, this would make a difference.
If the level of information and non-acceptance would rise, this would create less abusers.
If the segregation based on gender would be less, a deeper understanding would make men less disposed to abuse.
The idea that legalize Prostitution somehow should stop the trafficers and abusers is not even an illution.
Lets compare this with the Goverment as a drug-peddler. In my country it is LEGAL to sell tobacco products as long as U do this in a legal and taxable way.
I will let u guess if this has stopped the ILLIGAL trade of tobacco product in my country....
