Since we seem to have a new White House Administration that seems interested in restoring citizens' rights, I hope that my freedom of speech and freedom of press will be honored.

I sent a help ticket to Care2 and asked that my photo album be allowed to run at 5-second delay, the way I set it, even when the slideshow gets to pictures that people who censor me want to hide.  Presently, it runs on a 5-second delay until immediately before my photo slideshow gets to the pictures having to do with the two homeless, mentally ill men in Florida (one of whom killed the other), the photos race at a speed too fast for one to see the pictures.  I asked that Care2 examine my photo album for any codes that have been put in place to make this happen.  The picture below should be a link to my photo album on Care2:

I sent a help ticket to Care2 requesting that my Care2 page be freed of any codes that prevent it from scrolling correctly.  It comes up extremely slow, as though to discourage visitors from viewing it, and then it scrolls in waves rather than a smooth action.  Data is regularly deleted from my Care2 page, apparently by dragging same from the page from the bottom margin of the area where I put data about the advocacy for incarcerated mental patients.  See the last sentence in that section, cut off in mid stream, for instance.  The link to my Care2 page is carried most of my articles, and people who wish to censor Mary Neal and Assistance to the Incarcerated Mentally Ill do not allow my page to navigate as it should.  Sometimes, they deactivate my comments and vidoes in the comments area.  Here is a link to my Care2 Page:

President Obama is off to a great start to help restore America's freedoms! 

Hopefully, President Obama and his newly appointed Attorney General will do something to restore justice to the United States Department of Justice, which did not seem to care to uphold the law in recent years, especially as it pertains to USDOJ's responsibilities to uphold the rights of institutionalized persons, such as mental patients in prisons, jails, and substandard mental hospitals.

See what the ACLU reports our new president has already accomplished!




In addition to addressing the need for CHANGE regarding America's Freedom of Information Act, President Obama signed four executive orders in one day:

  • Ordered Guantánamo Bay shut down
  • Banned torture
  • Ordered a full review of U.S. detention policies and procedures, and
  • Delayed the trial of Ali al-Marri, an ACLU client whose case is at the center of the Supreme Court’s review of indefinite detention policies.

AIMI looks forward to much success in 2009 working together with human rights activists, mental health orgs., and prison rights groups to promote compassion and justice for the mentally ill, particularly those in prisons and jails who should be in treatment instead.

GREAT Family News (& a plea for a bit of a break)

My precious 11th Grandchild, REZNOR CAVALERA BILL, was born Friday 7/11, weighing 6 pounds 3 ounces & was 18 1/2 inches long, & has lots of long black hair... And all went perfectly!!! Although my daughter is only 5' tall & only weighed 125, she had an amazingly easy first birth!! Being SUCH a proud Mama & Grandma, I could write a whole book about how awesome & blessed it all was! However, I am now 2 weeks behind in my doctorate courses and MUST get caught up quickly. Therefore, please, do not be offended if I seem neglectful for a couple more weeks. I will be scanning through for important or personal messages,  only, for now.
It does bug me to think of all the good discussions I've missed, as well as important news, et al! I really DO love you each & every one!

Ten years ago today (May 5th), my second oldest son passed away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are all still quite devestated, however, he has shown us true angel power by "visiting" in often little but anazing ways!!!!
I can't believe he'd be 30 years old~  His sons are now nearly 13 and 11.
He spent his last days searching this National Forest for morel mushrooms, so today hubby & I took our annual hike in the forest. Sadly, we're no longer physically able to search all of our old good spots. I couldn't help myself.... I still half expeted him to come walking out of the woods to me~~~~
God rescued him when he was broken and I praise God for letting us have him as long as we did!!!!!!!!!

ON: Care2 Disenchantment & Losing Good People

My Dear Friends,
Below (in black) is yet another message from s frustrated good-hearted person saddened with things on Care2 & therefore "taking a break" from here. This happens to folks for various reasons, and, it is a loss for EVERYone by becoming the loss of another viewpoint, more info, having the chance to help someone feel a bit better, & MUCH more!!! Often times, it very much seems to begin with misunderstandings or interpretations of a commenter's intentions, sometimes its due to someone stubborn in their opinions (& unwilling to learn). As a dedicated Care2 member who CARES, I always wish the saddened ones would remain and let us talk it out, instead of going "away" feeling badly!! Therefore, I ask that ALL of us care to know one another with kindness. Thank you!

The recent spate of unwarranted suspensions has demonstrated that immediate changes in current suspension practices are necessary.

Unsubstantiated, and unevenly applied, suspensions affect every single member of Care2 -- and just as it happened to me and several others, without warning -- could equally apply to you. I urge you to ask for review and change, and to circulate this among your friends. It's only fair.

Most importantly, we need a clear-cut, written procedure for member disputes, investigation of same, and resolutions that are fair to all parties involved. Also, there needs to be a definition of suspension, including notice, duration (number of days), remedies, and length of time the infraction remains on your membership record. This should be posted as part of the Terms of Service, distributed to all members, and judiciously administered.

As things stand now, and I have experienced first-hand and have witnessed increasingly happening to others, any member is basically a "sitting duck" for another member (and their comrades) to set them up for suspension. The "flagging" utility, in particular, is over-used as a tool by malicious people; and in cases where those people can do so anonymously, they are not required to provide a good reason and are unaccountable for their actions. In addition to examining the alleged violation, some scrutiny needs to be made of habitual "flaggers." Flaggers should be required to justify their actions and a copy of that complaint should be retained.

Just as Care2 demands that all members adhere to the Code of Conduct and Terms of Service (both of which are so vague that their interpretation is highly subjective), why is there no written procedure for disputes? Suspensions, as handled now, are prejudicial because there is no prior "hearing," no investigation, no questioning of all parties.

It is ridiculous that an activist site has unfair, unclear (and in some cases, secret) procedures, which are whimsically applied. If you'll take the time to read some of the comments on the petition, you'll notice several statements from other members verifying this.

Care2 needs a reminder that their members are not "disposable" and it is not a "free" site. They use the number of members to attract new sponsors. Each member earns the use of the amenities offered by generating income while travelling through the site and being exposed to their ever-increasing advertisers.

We would like to help clarify a few things about these situations. We will not discuss any individual situations with members other than those personally involved, so as not to violate the confidentiality of any of our members.

To the question:
"Is a Care2 account suspension such as this implemented by a live technician, or does it automatically occur when the system counts a certain number of flags?"

A suspension can result from both of these methods. There are certain scripts that will suspend a user for reasons that violate Care2's posted Code of Conduct and Terms Of Service. Otherwise users are suspended when Care2 has determined that they have violated one of both of these policies.

As for a "thread in a group calling for the flagging of someone" or even a message being circulated, this will result in the individual who posts/sends such a message having his or her profile suspended. Such behavior as this can be equated with cyberstalking, which is not permitted on Care2.

We have set forth the COC and TOS to provide all who are part of Care2 to have a safe place to take part in, learn and enjoy. When these rules are violated it affects many members in a negative way. We apply the same rules to all who join and expect all members to respect each other and treat each other as you would wish to be treated.
