I JUST RECEIVED THIS IMPORTANT PETITION EFFORT VIA EMAIL. PLEASE, SHARE IT AROUND!
PEACE~
As of yesterday, gas prices are the highest in U.S. history—we just passed the 1981 record, even adjusted for inflation.1 Prices could reach $4.00 per gallon in parts of the country, just in time to crimp summer vacation plans. As consumers suffer, the oil industry continues to reap the windfall—breaking profit records on an almost quarterly basis. It's outrageous!

Enough is enough. Hearings start today on H.R. 1252, a House bill that would make gas price gouging a federal crime, punishable by 10 years in prison. Speaker Pelosi has said she'll move the bill to a vote this week—if there's the two-thirds majority required to fast track the bill through the process.2

Oil company lobbyists are frantically trying to stop the bill. Your representative needs to hear from you today. Will you sign our petition asking Congress to pass the price-gouging bill—and then send it to your friends?

"Gasoline price gouging should be made a federal crime before the summer price increases hurt more American families."

Rep Bart Stupak (D-MI), sponsor of the House bill said this of his motivation to introduce the legislation:

"In April ... crude oil was $7 a barrel cheaper than last year (but) gas prices were almost 50 cents a gallon higher. Clearly there's more at play than simply the world crude oil market."3

In April, more than two-thirds of Americans reported that their gas bills were causing financial crunches, with a full third saying it was having a "serious" impact on their families.4

That same month, the top two US companies, Exxon-Mobil and Chevron-Texaco, announced a combined $14 billion in first quarter profits.5

It seems like even the oil industry has gone too far this time, and it's time to balance the scales. The Senate passed a price-gouging measure out of committee last week, and the House bill now has over 100 co-sponsors from both sides of the aisle.

The oil industry is nervous. They've sent their lobbyists to the Hill in full force to stop—or at least weaken—these bills, and they're pulling out all the stops. The American Petroleum Institute, an industry front group of more than 400 oil and gas companies, even threatened that new laws could increase gas prices more.6

Enough is enough. This summer, we can stop Big Oil from profiting at the expense of American families. Can you sign the petition to ask your representative to make gasoline a price gouging a federal crime now?

Don't forget to pass it on to your friends—this week is an historic opportunity to send Big Oil a message that we've had enough.

Thanks for all you do.

People who smoke marijuana do not appear to be at increased risk for developing lung cancer, new research suggests.

While a clear increase in cancer risk was seen among cigarette smokers in the
Study, no such association was seen for regular cannabis users.

Even very heavy, long-term marijuana users who had smoked more than 22,000
Joints over a lifetime seemed to have no greater risk than infrequent
Marijuana users or nonusers.

The findings surprised the study’s researchers, who expected to see an increase in
Cancer among people who smoked marijuana regularly in their youth.

“We know that there are as many or more carcinogens and co-carcinogens in
Marijuana smoke as in cigarettes,” researcher Donald Tashkin, MD, of
UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine tells WebMD. “But we did not
Find any evidence for an increase in cancer risk for even heavy
Marijuana smoking.” Carcinogens are substances that cause cancer.

Tashkin presented the findings today at The American Thoracic Society’s 102nd International Conference, held in San Diego.

Boomers Reaching Cancer Age                                                                                   The study population was limited to people who were younger than 60 because People older than that would probably not have used marijuana in their Teens and early adult years. “People who may have smoked marijuana in their youth are just now getting to the age when cancers are being seen,” Tashkin says.

A total of 611 lung cancer patients living in Los Angeles County, and 601Patients with other cancers of the head and neck were compared with 1,040 people without cancer matched for age, sex, and the neighborhood They lived in.

All the participants were asked about lifetime use of marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol, as well as other drugs, their diets, occupation, family history of lung cancer, and socioeconomic status. The heaviest marijuana users in the study had smoked more than 22,000 joints, while moderately heavy smokers had smoked between 11,000 and 22,000 joints.

While two-pack-a-day or more cigarette smokers were found to have a 20-fold Increase in lung cancer risk, no elevation in risk was seen for even The very heaviest marijuana smokers.

The more tobacco a person smoked, the greater their risk of developing lung Cancer and other cancers of the head and neck. But people who smoked More marijuana were not at increased risk compared with people who Smoked less and people who didn’t smoke at all.

The THC Connection                                                                                                  Studies suggest that marijuana smoke contains 50 percent higher concentrations Of chemicals linked to lung cancer than cigarette smoke. Marijuana Smokers also tend to inhale deeper than cigarette smokers and hold the Inhaled smoke in their lungs longer.

So why isn’t smoking marijuana as dangerous as smoking cigarettes in terms of cancer risk? The answer isn’t clear, but the experts say it might have something to do With tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which is a chemical found in Marijuana smoke.

Cellular studies and even some Studies in animal models suggest that THC has antitumor properties, Either by encouraging the death of genetically damaged cells that can Become cancerous or by restricting the development of the blood supply That feeds tumors, Tashkin tells WebMD.

In a review of the research published last fall, University of Colorado Molecular biologist Robert Melamede, PhD, concluded that the THC in Cannabis seems to lessen the tumor-promoting properties of marijuana smoke.

The nicotine in tobacco has been shown to Inhibit the destruction of cancer-causing cells, Melamede tells WebMD. THC does not appear to do this and may even do the opposite.

While there was a suggestion in the newly reported study that smoking Marijuana is weakly protective against lung cancer, Tashkin says the Very weak as .... CONTINUED at:    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,196678,00.HTML

Hi Friends,

I am looking for some real HELP. My sister-in-law/best pal has been batttling kidney problems and although finally on the list, in TN, she still has it tougher because she is RH negative. They live near Knoxville, TN. They have 2 daughters and one grand baby. I would do ANYTHING posible to help her, but I can't for medical reasons (& not the same blood type(.
Therefore, IF you, or anyone you know, might be RH -, AND, willing to share a kidney, PLEASE let me know.

This is especially intense to me, because her husband lost his own mother when he was just 2. Then our grandparents took over, but Grandma died and several years later Grandpa died. (That is how my cousin became my brother, we raised him after those deaths). To make matters sadder, our family has lost several children to death & all were close him (my son, his neice, his oldest brother, fellow cousins, etc.). It has always broken my heart that he has had to endure so much loss, and, it "kills" me to know his dear wife is getting so bad & I can't help. We don't even live close so as to visit, etc.

PLEASE, let me know if know of any posible help!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Peace,
KathleenR/AngelFaith

FEB 24TH TROOPS HOME NOW DEMONSTRATION CENTRAL LONDON
FEB 23RD - 25TH CAMP OUTSIDE DOWNING STREET

This month military families everywhere have a chance to let this
government know we want our troops home now.

On February 24th we will join thousands of people marching in London
to call for Troops Out of Iraq and No Trident.
We will also be camping outside Downing Street 23rd - 25th February.

Our sons and daughters were sent to fight in a war based on lies. 132
British service people have now died in Iraq. There were no weapons
of mass destruction. Over half a million Iraqis have died. The
overwhelming majority of US, British and Iraqi citizens want the
troops out now. Yet Bush is sending more troops to Baghdad for an
offensive that threatens to spill over into the south - further
endangering the lives of British troops.

In Afghanistan another failed US war threatens to claim the lives of
yet more coalition troops and innocent civilians.

Military personnel have to endure low pay, long hours and poor
equipment. Their families are forced to put up with appalling housing
on top of the daily stress of having a loved one deployed in a war
zone. When our troops come home from the war mentally or physically
injured they and their families are abandoned by those that sent them
there. The government are closing Britain's last military hospital.

We invite all military families and serving and ex-sevices people to
join Military Families Against the War on the demonstration and camp.

If you plan to attend either event or would like more information
about the demonstration and camp email:

PRESS APPEALS AND NOTICES
We have received the following request for assistance from the media.
If you would like to take part please contact them directly.

CHANNEL FOUR EDUCATION
Channel 4 Education is currently producing a documentary about the families left behind when teenage soldiers are killed in Iraq. We are focusing in detail on 4 families, but would like to have a space in the film dedicated to all of the teenage soldiers who have died in
Iraq since the war began. For this reason, I would like to ask that family members of deceased soldiers send us any video or photographic material that may be used in the film with their permission. We are specifically looking for phone video material and photographs that would have been filmed while they were stationed in Iraq.
Please contact Christina to talk about this further, at
christina.daniels@ricochet.co.uk or +44 (0)1273 224 826
With many thanks,

CENTURY FILMS DOCUMENTARY FOR CHANNEL 4
Century Films is an award-winning television production company renowned for making serious documentary films about sensitive social issues. Previous films include a series about parents with mental health problems, a film about the experiences of women prisoners, and recently we won a BAFTA for Best Documentary for a film about children with Autism.

We have now been commissioned to make a special 90-minute film for Channel 4 about veterans. Through veterans' own stories the film will look at the difficulties some ex-servicemen and women face in returning to 'Civvy Street', including the emotional or psychological problems some experience.  Including the stories of veterans from a wide range of different conflicts, from WWII through to the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, the film will also explore British Society's relationship to veterans.

We are in the early stages of researching the film and we are keen to speak to veterans of all ages who would be happy to chat to us about their experiences.
As we discussed last week it would be great if you could suggest people who you think might be willing to have a chat with us (not necessarily with any commitment to taking part in the film). At this early stage in our research it would be good to speak to as many people as possible, so contacts for either veterans themselves or people who could put us in touch with veterans would be a great help.  We are finding it particularly difficult to find veterans of the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan so any suggestions here would be most welcome.
