Letters to the Board from Dr. Hines' readers have not swayed them yet.  But every time a new viewer opens this webpage or links to it, it moves up in rank on the Google Search Engine and becomes more powerful. When it surpasses the Official Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners site, they will give you back the ability to contact Dr. Hines (its getting close). http://www.2ndchance.info/TBVME2.htm

A beautiful and very spiritual 12 minute video made by "Reel Change for Nonprofits" participants Tracy Basile and Scott Halfmann of WESPAC and Friends of Turtle Island. Scott and Tracy were participants in the spring 2010 "Reel Change for Nonprofits" class at the Jacob Burns Film Center's Media Arts Lab. The Unfractured Future brings Native voices to the forefront of an urgent issue in New York State. The natural gas extraction process known as hydraulic fracturing threatens our water and our future. The film urges all to envision an unfractured future together. It offers perspectives rarely heard in the American environmental movement or in mainstream media today.

Given the time and emotional energy is takes to produce a masterpiece, it's not so surprising that some of the greatest artists throughout history may have come across as a bit aloof or easily irritable -- but in nature, there's one expert sand sculptor that may be crabbiest of all. Meet the Sand Bubbler crab, a crafty little beach-dweller native to the Indo-Pacific whose beautiful sand sphere creations are quite unintentionally artful. http://www.treehugger.com/natural-sciences/meet-little-crab-unintentionally-makes-awesome-sand-art.html

Toxic botulism in animals linked to RoundUp

Dr Mercola recently interviewed Dr Don Huber, whose letter to the USDAwarning that Monsanto’s RoundUp, a broad-spectrum “herbicide” that has been linked with spontaneous abortion in animals, continues to be ignored by food and environmental safety authorities. In this important hour-long discussion, Huber, a plant pathologist for over 50 years, explains how RoundUp is destroying our healthy soils by killing needed microorganisms.

Okay all you rodent lovers, or not, I probably deserve at least one green star for this story. I actually like mice and rats and so I think the Universe decided I should give up my role as house keeper and become a "mouse keeper". It all started when I was working in my basement on the computer and heard the pitter patter of tiny feet abouve my head. I noticed that my cats were often staring at the ceiling. My female cat was actually able to find her way above the tiles. I had not realized at first this was happening until I saw that some of the tiles were starting to sag.

I figured this could become a big problem if left unchecked, so I picked up a Haveshart trap, baited it witth peanut butter and set it on a ledge by the crawl space. Next morning when I checked the trap, two beady little eyes peered back at me. Okay, now what? It was pretty cold outside, but I didn't want to keep the little critter, so I decided to release it next to a shed. As I was about to release it, I noticed it had a problem with one foot, so I scooped it back into the container and returned to the house. I knew the neighborhood cats would quickly make a snack of it. I hauled a small fish tank out of the attic, filled the bottom with wood chips, bought an edible mousehouse and fed the liitle guy apples, peanut butter, cheerios, nuts, sunflower seeds. I decided to reset the trap, because mice are very social animals and I figured there probably were more. Sure enough, over the next couple of days I caught several more, until I had four of them! I decided this time to let them go together near a barn a short distance away. I had named the first two, but realized that probably wasn't a great idea. I was starting to become attached.

By now the word was out, that there was this nice lady who provided comfort and good food. All you had to do was spend a few hours in a metal cage snacking on peanut butter and after that dine like a king, safe from predators and even have cool toys. By now I had purchased an exercise wheel. This went on most of the winter. Catch and release. Catch and release. I am pretty sure some of them were the same mice I had already caught, several times. Who is the slow learner here?!

I finally got smart and started driving them MILES from my house, far enough away that they wouldn't come back.

Are Privatized Water Utilities in Cahoots With Shale Gas Companies?

On one hand, we have shale gas companies who have been rushing into various regions of the country to extract gas using a dangerous extraction process that involves toxic chemicals potentially contaminating our drinking water. On the other hand, we also have investor-owned water utilities (IOU’s) who are taking a public resource out of the hands of the public and profiting greatly from it. What happens when you put them both together? The results are revealed in the latest Food & Water Watch Report, Why the Water Industry is Promoting Shale Gas Development and they could involve the over-generalization of water quality tests, increased water rates and big profits… for the investors.

The report details big concerns about the sketchy relationship between IOU’s and gas companies, including the possibility that IOU’s would protect their investment even if it meant downplaying the risks of contamination caused by their new customers: shale gas companies.

Not only that, but water contamination in a community can lead to new customers for the private water utilities when they need to find a new source of drinking water. Look at what’s happening in Pavillion, Wyoming and Dimock, Pennsylvania, and you can see that this could be a tricky relationship to monitor. If your household relies on its own drinking water well and it suddenly becomes contaminated, you might have to deal with switching to an IOU to provide your water. They can benefit from contamination.

The report also points to IOU’s giving gas-drilling companies discounted rates for water—an average of 45 percent less than residential customers, in the case of one IOU. This sets the tone for water—a public resource —to be sold cheaply to shale gas companies, giving IOU’s a handsome profit. And this water would be used for fracking, which could potentially contaminate water sources.

Do we really want to sell our clean water up the river?

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.  For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.  For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.  As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.
