What are you doing Thursday evening?

Blackfish, the film everyone has been talking about, is set to air at 9pm on Thursday, 21 November, on BBC Four.

This must-see documentary – which tells the story of Tilikum, a performing orca whose captivity has led to the deaths of several people – has been making waves around the world. The film has received rave reviews from the media as well as support from celebrities such as Stephen Fry, Leona Lewis and Ewan McGregor. Most importantly, it has shed light on the cruel practices that orcas face in marine parks such as SeaWorld and Loro Parque.

Now, we have the opportunity to get this important message out to even more people! Please join us by inviting your friends to our Facebook Event

Find out more about the film here, and mark your calendars for 9 pm on Thursday, 21 November.

Here is an example of the Bikers 4 Orcas Petition that I downloaded & printed, in order to take to family, friends & neighbours etc.

I will add your name & email address to the petitions I have already printed

            FREE MORGAN

Morgan is a young wild orca who was found hungry & alone off the coast of the Netherlands in 2010. She was very underweight but otherwise not ill.

She was captured by a marine park who had a permit to rescue her on the condition that she was released back to the ocean as soon as she was strong enough.

However, within weeks of being rescued she was put on public display. Then, instead of being returned to her home in the ocean, she was moved from a tiny tank in the Netherlands to another tank in The Canary Islands. So now, Morgan is being kept in captivity in an “abusement park” where she has to do tricks for food and to entertain the paying crowd. Morgan will be exploited for the rest of her life if we don’t stand up for her!

Video footage of her first few weeks in the Canaries show her being rammed and bitten by the other orcas and now because of this she has ‘rake marks’ all along her body ~ She’s being bullied. When not with the other orcas she was spending a lot of time alone in a shallow side pool.

Orca experts and researchers know where Morgans family are. They live in the ocean near the islands and fjords of Northern Norway. It is a beautiful, icy wilderness where the orcas spend the winter months feeding on herring and socialising with all the other pods of orcas. Morgan should be there but, instead, she is far away from home with animals that are strangers and aggressive towards her.

Morgan can and should be returned to her family

This week emergency measures were finally imposed to protect endangered sperm whales from California's drift gillnet fishery. If a single sperm whale is harmed, the gillnet fishery for swordfish and shark will shut down for the season!
While the new protections may prevent whale deaths in the short term, we all know that the real fix is to phase out this wasteful fishery once and for all. We must keep the pressure on to phase out the curtains of death along the California coast.

Take Action to Support Whale Protections in the CA Drift Gillnet Fishery. It's 1 of the deadliest commercial fisheries in the U.S

Here's the link for the petition:

To help speed the phase out of the CA drift gillnet fishery, published a new online exposé calling for an end to the gillnet fishery titled, California's Deadliest Catch.

Tell the federal government its current study about protecting Arctic marine mammals from noise-related impacts of offshore oil and gas development is flawed. It does not even come close to protecting marine mammals. Please sign the petition.
