Blog: Signatures Needed For EMPLOYEE FREE CHOICE ACT!

Hi,

I just signed an important petition to help get our country back on track, and I hope you’ll join me.

In today’s economy, working folks like you and me need a fair deal and a chance to get ahead. But some CEOs just go too far. They rake in millions while cutting back health benefits and raises for their employees.

It’s outrageous, and it’s only getting worse for working families as the cost of everything from gas to groceries keeps going up.

It’s time to bring back some balance in this economy, and that’s why I signed a petition supporting the Employee Free Choice Act, which would help level the playing field by giving workers more power to demand better wages, health care, and working conditions.

Our goal is one million signatures. Will you take a moment to sign, and pass this along? Go to:
http://freechoiceact.org/WA

We’re all in this together. And this bill is a real opportunity for all of us, by giving workers more muscle to raise living standards, improve health care, and stop outsourcing. Please, help us get to one million signatures! It just takes one minute – be sure to upload your picture, too!

Blog: Why Is America In Debt??

SCENARIO:

Customer: Yes, I want to cancel my account. I don't want to do business with you any longer.

The Bank: Why?

Customer: You're giving credit to illegal immigrants and I don't think it's right. I'm taking my business elsewhere.

The Bank: Well, Mr. Customer, we don't want to see you do that, but we can't stop you.. I'll help you close the account. What is your account number?

Customer: (gives account number)

The Bank: For security purposes and for your protection, can you please give me the last four digits of your social security number?

Customer: No?

The Bank: Mr. Customer, I need to verify your information, but in order to help you, I'll need verification of who you are.

Customer: Why should I give you my social security number? The reason I'm closing my account is that your bank is issuing credit cards to illegal immigrants who don't have social security numbers. You are targeting that audience and want their business. Let's say I'm an illegal immigrant and you've given me a credit card. I have a question about it and call for assistance. You wouldn't be asking me for a Social Security number, would you?

The Bank: No sir, I wouldn't.

Customer: Why not?

The Bank: Because you would have pressed '2' to speak in Spanish. We don't ask for that information when calling in on the Spanish line.

For doubters, I provided 'snopes', who confirms Bank of America has instituted this policy: http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/bankofamerica.asp

Now .

I hope the following 14 reasons are forwarded over and over again until they are read so many times that the reader gets sick of reading them. I have included the URL's for verification of the following facts.

11. During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from Terrorist Countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroine and marijuana, crossed into the U. S from the Southern border. Homeland Security Report: http://tinyurl.com/t9sht

Blog: Do you think English is easy?

Now this............ my friends, is totally brilliant and worth the read or is that reed or possibly Reid!

This is for those who think German is hard.

1) The bandage was wound around the wound.

2) The farm was used to produce produce.

3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

4) We must polish the Polish furniture.

5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.

6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present

8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.

9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10) I did not object to the object.

11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row

13) They were too close to the door to close it.

14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail

18) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.

19) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France . Sweetmeats ar e candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

PS. - Why doesn't "Buick" rhyme with "quick"

You lovers of the English language might enjoy this

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is
< U> "UP."

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP?  At a meeting, why does a topic come UP?  Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is itUP to the secretary to write UP a report?

We call UP our friends.  And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen.  We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car.    At other times the little word has real special meaning.  People stir UPtrouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing:  A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We openUP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.

We seem to be pretty mixed
UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary.  In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used.  It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP.  When the sun comes out we say it is clearingUP

When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP.

When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP.

One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it
UP, for now my time is UP , so........... it is time to shut UP.....

North Carolina Amber Alert

SIRAJ MUNIR DAVENPORT
DOB: Aug 23, 2004
Missing Date: May 18, 2008
Age Now: 3
Missing City: SMITHFIELD
The FBI is now involved in the search for a 3-year-old Johnston County boy who's been missing since Sunday morning.

The Smithfield Police Department is searching for Siraj Unir Davenport of Four Oaks. His mother says he answers to Raji.

Davenport is a 3-year-old Asian male, approximately 3 feet, 0 inches tall, weighing 35 pounds. He has dark brown hair and brown eyes.

Story continues belowAdvertisementHe was last seen wearing light blue T-shirt with a yellow truck on the front, dark blue sweat pants and Addidas tennis shoes.

Detectives tell Eyewitness News that the boy was at the Brightleaf Flea Market with his mother around 10 a.m., when she says she turned to load her car with groceries and turned back around to find the boy gone.

Investigators say the mother and other customers searched for two hours on their own before calling police around noon.

Since then, Smithfield Police, Johnston County Sheriff's officials, search and rescue teams and fire officials have been scouring the area inside and outside the flea market. They have also launched several boats off a nearby ramp looking for clues along the Neuse River. Monday morning, federal agents entered the search for the child.

Authorities say they closed down the market early, clearing out everyone and searching each car as it left the parking lot for clues.

As for leads, police say there are few --investigators say Raji may have been abducted, but they have no information on any estranged family member or anyone else who would want to harm the boy.

Smithfield Police Chief Steve Gillikin said it may too early to consider the case a possible abduction. The search was called off Sunday evening because of bad weather.

Meanwhile his mother is working with police. The boys father is overseas. Officials say he's on his way back to Johnston County now.

If you have any information regarding this abduction, contact the Smithfield Police Department at (919) 934-2121, or call 911 or Highway Patrol.

Law enforcement officers are searching for a 19-year-old Marshall man whose car was found abandoned in a ditch northwest of Taunton.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says Brandon Swanson's Chevrolet Lumina was found shortly after noon Wednesday at the Lyon-Lincoln county line in southwestern Minnesota.

Swanson's parents called the sheriff about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday to say they had gotten a cell phone call from their son, who said he had gone into a ditch.

He told them he went off the road between Marshall and Lynd, but his car wasn't there. The cell call was traced to a tower near Minneota, and the car was found soon after.

A search of the area Wednesday by officers, a police dog and a State Patrol airplane turned up nothing. Taunton is about 15 miles northwest of Marshall.

Blog: What's Life Like for Working Women? A Working Woman Survey!
PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO ALL FRIENDS!
Working America and the AFL-CIO want to know

About the unique issues that women face in the workplace.
Dear Friend,

What do you do if you need to take time off work to care for a sick child or parent?
Does having children hurt your career?
Unequal pay. Maternity leave. Spiraling health care costs. Family and children plus a full-time career.
Working people face these issues every day. But all too often, women especially don’t have the resources or support to help meet these challenges.
Working America and the AFL-CIO are conducting a nationwide survey on what it's like to be a working woman. If you’re a working woman, your opinion matters greatly. Please take a moment to complete the Ask a Working Woman survey and share your thoughts and experiences.
The results of this survey have never been more important. Women’s rights and labor organizations will use the results to advocate for women across the country over the next two years. Your voice matters. We want to hear from you (or the women in your life), Robin.
It's short, easy (we promise) and will serve as an invaluable tool for moving working women's issues into the national dialogue. Click here now to take the survey.
And if you’re not a working woman, forward this e-mail to your sister, your mother, your co-workers and your friends to make sure their voices are heard.
Thanks for helping lead the way for women in the workplace. Together, we can make lasting change.

In support of working women everywhere,

Working America, AFL-CIO
