I just signed an important petition to help get our country back on track, and I hope you’ll join me.
In today’s economy, working folks like you and me need a fair deal and a chance to get ahead. But some CEOs just go too far. They rake in millions while cutting back health benefits and raises for their employees.
It’s outrageous, and it’s only getting worse for working families as the cost of everything from gas to groceries keeps going up.
It’s time to bring back some balance in this economy, and that’s why I signed a petition supporting the Employee Free Choice Act, which would help level the playing field by giving workers more power to demand better wages, health care, and working conditions.
Our goal is one million signatures. Will you take a moment to sign, and pass this along? Go to: http://freechoiceact.org/WA
We’re all in this together. And this bill is a real opportunity for all of us, by giving workers more muscle to raise living standards, improve health care, and stop outsourcing. Please, help us get to one million signatures! It just takes one minute – be sure to upload your picture, too!
Customer: Yes, I want to cancel my account. I don't want to do business with you any longer.
The Bank: Why?
Customer: You're giving credit to illegal immigrants and I don't think it's right. I'm taking my business elsewhere.
The Bank: Well, Mr. Customer, we don't want to see you do that, but we can't stop you.. I'll help you close the account. What is your account number?
Customer: (gives account number)
The Bank: For security purposes and for your protection, can you please give me the last four digits of your social security number?
Customer: No?
The Bank: Mr. Customer, I need to verify your information, but in order to help you, I'll need verification of who you are.
Customer: Why should I give you my social security number? The reason I'm closing my account is that your bank is issuing credit cards to illegal immigrants who don't have social security numbers. You are targeting that audience and want their business. Let's say I'm an illegal immigrant and you've given me a credit card. I have a question about it and call for assistance. You wouldn't be asking me for a Social Security number, would you?
The Bank: No sir, I wouldn't.
Customer: Why not?
The Bank: Because you would have pressed '2' to speak in Spanish. We don't ask for that information when calling in on the Spanish line.

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France . Sweetmeats ar e candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?
If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?
How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.
English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.
PS. - Why doesn't "Buick" rhyme with "quick"
You lovers of the English language might enjoy this
There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is< U> "UP."
It's easy to understand UP,meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is itUPto the secretary to write UP a report?
We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UPtrouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.
And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We openUPa store in the morning but we close it UP at night.
We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP!To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP,look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP,you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearingUP
When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP.
When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP.
One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP,for now my time is UP, so........... it is time to shut UP.....

What do you do if you need to take time off work to care for a sick child or parent?
Does having children hurt your career?
Unequal pay. Maternity leave. Spiraling health care costs. Family and children plus a full-time career.
Working people face these issues every day. But all too often, women especially don’t have the resources or support to help meet these challenges.
Working America and the AFL-CIO are conducting a nationwide survey on what it's like to be a working woman. If you’re a working woman, your opinion matters greatly. Please take a moment to complete the Ask a Working Woman survey and share your thoughts and experiences.
The results of this survey have never been more important. Women’s rights and labor organizations will use the results to advocate for women across the country over the next two years. Your voice matters. We want to hear from you (or the women in your life), Robin.
It's short, easy (we promise) and will serve as an invaluable tool for moving working women's issues into the national dialogue. Click here now to take the survey.

!THIS IS A REPOST! WANTED: INTERPOL requests public assistance to identify man pictured sexually abusing children INTERPOL is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man pictured sexually abusing children in a series of images found on the Internet and retrieved from the computer of a convicted paedophile.
The man, whose name, nationality and location are unknown is featured in approximately 100 images in a series of around 800, which are believed to have been taken in Southeast Asia and depict the sexual abuse of at least three boys aged between six and 10 years old. The first pictures of the man were originally discovered by police in Norway in March 2006.
“The law enforcement community around the world has done all it can to find this man who clearly presents a danger to young children, and we are now asking the public to help identify this predator and protect other potential victims from abuse,” said INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble.
“When we made a similar appeal last year, it was information provided by the public which helped identify and locate Christopher Paul NEIL, who is now in jail facing child abuse charges. We hope that people around the world will again play a vital role in tracing this man who could otherwise continue to sexually abuse young children.
” After receiving the pictures from Norwegian police, INTERPOL’s child exploitation unit at the General Secretariat in Lyon, France circulated the images to its global network of experts to try and identify the man. The photographs were also entered into INTERPOL’s Child Abuse Image Database (ICAID) for a digital comparison of images received and stored in ICAID from around the world. To date, around 800 images in this series, all featuring the same victims and locations, have been identified.
Operation Vico, INTERPOL’s first-ever public appeal to identify an unknown man photographed sexually abusing children, led to the swift arrest in Thailand of Christopher Paul NEIL last October. Following the success of that operation, INTERPOL’s General Assembly in 2007 approved a resolution empowering the organization to publish information to request the public’s assistance in child sex abuse investigations.
“Again, it was a carefully considered decision to publish this second man’s picture in a public appeal. Our duty as law enforcement officers is to protect children and we believe this appeal, codenamed Operation IDent, will help us do that,” said Kristin Kvigne, Assistant Director of INTERPOL’s Trafficking in Human Beings unit.
“While these images were only discovered two years ago, we believe the photographs were taken between April 2000 and May 2001 so clearly this man will be older than he appears in the pictures.
” Anyone with information about this man’s identity and current location should contact their local police or the INTERPOL General Secretariat. Members of the public should not take any direct action themselves.

Part 1 In just 16 months.. Remember the election in 2006? Thought you might like to read the following: A little over 16 MONTHS ago: 1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high; 2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon; 3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.
Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen: 1) Consumer confidence plummet; 2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon; 3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase); 4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses); 5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars; 6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
America voted for change in 2006, and we got it! Remember it's Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him.

A young mother is killed, and two children present during the homicide are now missing.
Missing From: Cincinnati, OHIO Police are searching for two children who they believe went missing after witnessing the shooting, including 9-year-old Damerco Jones and Armisha Williams, 4, Police have been unable to contact their parents.
Police identified the victim as Jackie Evans, 25. Officers found her shot in the chest near President and Williamsburg Drive just before 10:00 p.m. Friday. Investigators believe Evans was shot during fight in a large group of people.
The missing children are identified as Armisha Williams, age four, and Damerco Jones, age nine. Police say that the children were taken by an unidentified female who is not the mother or the guardian of the children.
Officers believe the shooter is a woman. So far, adult witnesses are not cooperating with police.
Moments after watching a woman shoot his mother, a six-year-old boy laid on her blood-covered body.
His four-year-old sister ran after him to do the same.
Neighbors looked on, shocked. The children waited, hoping their mom would wake up.
As their small bodies covered her, they cried, still unaware this violent scene would be the last moment they’d share with their mother.
Jackie Denise Evans, 25, died Friday night after being shot in the chest while walking home with her four children.
That is the grisly account police gave Saturday as they struggled to piece together what happened outside the Fay Apartments complex in North Fairmount.
Investigative work has been hampered by uncooperative witnesses, creating few leads in this heartbreaking case, said Cincinnati Police Sgt. Gary Conner.
“There were a number of people who were standing outside. Not a single person came forward to tell us anything,” Conner said. “The best information we were able to get came from a six-year-old boy who had just lost his mother. He was the only one with the courage and guts to talk to the police.
” The children – believed to be 6, 4, 3 and eight months – have been placed with their maternal grandmother, police said.
According to police, Evans was shot about 9 p.m. in the 2500 block of Williamsburg Drive, near President Drive.
Evans was taken to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“She was a block from home. Another 10 minutes, and she could still be alive,” Conner said, running through the what-ifs of this tragedy. “If she’d walked on the other side of the street, maybe she would have survived. …Maybe none of this would have happened.
” Police said on Friday there may have been a fight before the shooting. They’re still trying to figure out what could have sparked the deadly argument.
Family described Evans as non-confrontational. “The only thing she would ever fight over is her kids,” they told police, according to Conner.
Detectives spent most of Saturday canvassing the area and going door-to-door, looking for clues to point them to the killer.
They were met with dead-end after dead-end, people who refused to tell them what they witnessed.
“Someone saw this. They had to,” Conner said about the large group that was outside when Evans was shot. “This happened over something as simple as a verbal altercation of some sort. For that, a woman lost her life and four children are without a mother. It’s just senseless.
Meanwhile, police were searching for two children who they believe went missing after witnessing the shooting.
