From Green Right Now Reports
If you didn’t realize that January is National Hot Tea Month, tea maker Celestial Seasonings gives you a new reason to take notice: The company has announced plans to help preserve the Earth’s tropical forests by inviting one and all to participate in a new Facebook quiz called PossibiliTEAS.
Celestial will donate one dollar for each participant, up to a maximum of $50,000, to Conservation International ’s “Protect an Acre” program, which aims to help slow climate change and preserve tropical forests throughout the world. According to the organization, just $15 helps protect an acre of forest.
“At Celestial Seasonings, we continue our 40-year commitment to social and environmental responsibility through our support of Conservation International’s ‘Protect an Acre’ program,” Peter Burns, General Manager of Celestial Seasonings, said in a press release.
Celestial has a previous track record of environmental awareness. The company uses minimal packaging and produces a tea bag that requires no strings, staples, tags or individual wrappers. Celestial estimates that those changes keep more than 3.5 million pounds of waste from going into landfills each year.
The PossibiliTEAS Facebook feature helps participants identify with one of the nine symbolic Asian characters found of boxes of Celestial’s new green tea. The dragon, for instance, represents “awakening,” while the butterfly symbolizes “joy.”
The quiz is available at Celestial Season’s Facebook fan page. The first 15,000 participants will receive a sample of Celestial Seasonings Authentic Green Tea.
