Greetings,I just now found this group and I'm happy to join.As a long distance trucker for many years I have a story to share about slaughter trucks....I had stopped outside North Platte Nebraska to get coffee and as I was walking to my truck I came upon a tractor trailer loaded with horses. As the horses were stacked double,I started asking questions of the driver....The horses were bound for slaughter in North Platte, just about forty miles away. There was a paint mare down in the floor and she couldn't get up due to crowding and I felt also a lack of hope and giving up on her part. The driver had a cattle prod and he was shocking her on the face, the eye,the neck, over and over trying to get her to stand. Needless to say,we had words, and he informed me that other than a few of the horses, most had been bred just to go to slaughter from one farm.....I was furious,I cried and pleaded with him to stop shocking her as she could not get up for lack of room to stand. He put the prod down for a moment and it made its way into my hand and my truck from there...I couldn't stop him from taking the horses on to their deaths, but I did give him some things to think about.....To their credit, the people of North Platte didn't want a horse slaughter plant there and several times when I came through they had cut fence and released horses to escape any way they could....Just in protest of the plant.I saw so many trucks while I was driving, and thank god only a couple loaded with horses for it always broke my heart and made me angry to the point of doing something to end up in jail if I were caught.Lets just say that between the slaughter houses and the plight of the mustangs I've cut my share of fence lines....If only more people would do the same,we could at least give them a few problems.Perhaps its wrong of me to encourage this behavior, but I'm a horse person and would do anything in my power to protect them in any way I can.And I don't care who likes it or not. They are beautiful creatures and my life would be empty without my horses...If I could go back,I'd still carry wire cutters in my truck and I'd still be cutting fences across america!! As for the trucks that carry our noble friends to their death, its bad enough reading about it,I saw things first hand that still give me nightmares and make me sick to think about. The horses so tired, hungry, thirsty, many injured from kicks and falling to be trampled by other horses that had no choice, they were just fighting to remain standing too. I saw babys no more than three months old to the older horses that I knew had to of been some back yard person's pet who knew no better. At least thats what they claim, but I'd never sell a horse at auction no matter what or why. That isn't loyalty on the humans part, its betrayal.I wish I could do more to help these animals,I wish the people that vote for slaughter could witness the conditions on the trailers and the look in the horses eyes. They know.I swear they know they are going to their deaths. They just can't scream for help or escape.I have to beleive that theres a special place in hell for those who abuse animals.....Its how I hold on...
Greetins all, We all know the beauty of the smoky mountains in Tennessee and all of the wildlife that call the mountains home....Well once again, progree rears it's ugly head and the fight is on! They now want to build another interstate through the mountains and build more roads and put up more cabins to rent to the public. This will destroy habitat for the wildlife and a few species are threatened with extinction such as the firefly if this is allowed. There are people attending the meetings on favor of doing this, but only fifty people showed up to say no. You may research this action and submit your comments at elkmontcomments@nainc.com and go to http://www.elkmont-gmpa-ea.com for time and locations of public meetings to discuss this and give your comments. Please,if you can attend these meetings,do so.If not,e-mail the superintendent of the park and state your feelings on this matter. We must preserve these mountains and protect them from those who are only in it for profit with no regard to the mountains or the wildlife that call them home.It is vital that the people who want to save the land and the wildlife stand up and fight this. The mountains do not need any more buildings or roads. This would not only hurt the wildlife and the mountains, but also existing farms. Please check out these sights and take a stand for the mountains....Lend your voice to the mountains that cannot cry out to save themselves!! Thank You and Blessings
Greetings,I'm asking all Care2 members to go to insider@sierraclub.org and read about the issue on the smokey mountains. They are wanting to put ANOTHER INTERSTATE through the mountains, and theres also an issue concerning more cabins being built and I guess you could say "more progress" being made. Its just not the kind of progress that protects the mountains, the wildlife,or does anything we are all fighting for. There is also an issue of not enough active protesters showing up at meetings concerning these issues.Plenty of people wanting to give voice for progress,50 people were there to say "no". Please check out the site which will direct you on to Congress.org to get on your soap box and tell them what you think. There are so many members here,we CAN make a difference! Please get involved in this as the smokey mountains and all the wildlife that call them home are at risk. Thanks guys.Blessings,Robin
As I sit here sipping my morning coffee the thought crossed my mind yet again that I'm so glad to have found the Care2 site so that I can help make a difference in all the bad things in our world....As i was sipping and feeling so smug,it hit me.This is not just petitions to sign and comments to make and pretty pictures to look at....This nightmare of abuse, starvation, destruction of habitat, and seemingly total lack of concern on the part of the powers that be is REAL. As I sit and ponder the actions I'm taking trying to change situtations that should not even exist in a world I want to live in,there is BLOOD and FEAR,and PAIN,and NOT UNDERSTANDING,and CRUEL DEATHS and it is all HAPPENING EVERY DAY...I live in a world that is so beautiful, filled with creatures that are wonderous, and I share this world with monsters that destroy, maim, and kill the animals they should be fighting to protect...They torture and experiment on our domestic animals and our primates in the name of science and greater understanding.Well if thats what it takes to understand,I want to be left in the dark, never understanding....As I can't grasp WHY anyone would fall to greed for money and lust for power, ignoring the brutal deaths that are happening as they dig and drill and mine and kill or cause the death of the animals I want my child to be able to grow up and see.I want my son to see our wildlife healthy,in a thriving habitat with room to roam and raise healthy young. I fear that by the time my son is an adult, there will be animals that are extinct,he will only see them in pictures...My greatest fear is my son growing up in a world where the powers that be would allow all of the destruction and killing to happen at all,let alone go on and on. Where animal rights and protection of our wildlife and forests and water and even the air we breathe is a fight, not a given. It breaks my heart to think of the suffering and hardship the wildlife endure just trying to survive in a world where killing is considered a sport by some and a passtime by others...I just don't understand why man has to be so greedy and cruel and thoughtless as to what he is really doing to living, breatheing, feeling, thinking creatures....How can these people sleep at night? How can they look their children in the eye and claim to be doing the best they can? What will their answers be when their children are old enough to ask questions or are they training them as they grow that abuse, cruelty, and destruction are justified in the name of money? I've never wished to be wealthy untill this morning.I've always been happy with enough, thats all I've asked. This morning I wished to be disgustingly rich, just to have money to fight the ones that destroy and harm the animals I've always loved and cherished. To be able to fly to Alaska and stand between the club and the baby seal,to pay to have someone rip the wiring from the helicopters that chase down the wolves as the hunters shoot them....To go and cut the fences the ranchers put up to block the mustangs from water and food, left fenced in to die from starvation and thirst.Yes,I wish I was rich....I'd no doubt be bonding myself out of jail on a regular basis....I teach my son respect for all living things, not to ever hunt for money or trophy and there is no pleasure in killing.I teach him he must never take what he can't give, which is life....Why can't everyone teach these basic rules? Why can't we have a class on mercy in our school's? How do I explain to my child that the earth and the creatures that call it home are being destroyed every day by the very people who should be fighting to protect them for our children and the future? As all these thoughts and more cross my mind and run through my heart I feel such an incredible sadness that things are as they are.A sadness so deep as I think that even as I type somewhere an animal is being hunted for sport,or tortured for science,or killed for the fur on it's body. The blood and the pain and the fear are all so real and happening all the time....I pledge to always do what I know in my heart and soul to be right,to protect and serve however I can to ensure the future of our planet and the creatures who inhabit it. To teach my son to enjoy nature and all of her secrets. To never forget that behind all the words there is real blood, real pain, and the loss of our very souls if we don't stand up and fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.Speak for those who have no voice,to celebrate our victorys and cry when we lose,to never give up,never back down. I will teach my son compassion, empathy, kindness, and respect. That the measure of a man isn't in his wallet, but whats in his heart. I will teach him love and understanding and that power, real power isn't in what is destroyed but what is saved. That honesty and mercy are and should be given as well as received. I will teach him never to forget the beauty of life, and love, and to enjoy all the Creator has given and to care for and protect it to the best of his ability. To reach for knowledge, but do what his heart tells him is right. To cherish and protect the wildlife and the domestic animals. That the red fox is just as important as the grizzly bear, there are no favorites when fighting for whats right for all.Above all else,I hope to teach him to love these creatures as I have and continue to love them. That there are worse names to be called than "tree hugger"... I want him to beleive not only in the life, but in the soul of every creature we are honered to have on this planet....
The area where I live is very beautiful....till I see the starving litter of pups someone has thrown out on the side of the road. Some of the people in this area just have no feelings at all when it comes to animals. They treat them as if its not a life in their hands but something to either keep or throw away wherever...I've saved so many,at one time I had 44 puppys in my barn that were found in ditches,in the road,in parking lots, just anywhere and everywhere.I guess if they are bound to dump an animal at least it is somewhat kinder to dump the animal in a public place where someone who cares may find it.The really bad ones are when they take the poor things to the middle of nowhere and certain starvation or death by predators such as coyotes....We have no shelter here and the red tape dosen't allow the shelter in a larger city to take them in.I am one of the few who go everywhere with a bag of dog food,a bag of cat food,a couple of leashes and a jug of water in my truck. If I can't catch it then I can at least feed it,and if I find an animal I can't catch I'll continue going to feed it until I can't find it anymore...There have been the ones that were too far gone and all I could do was take them to my vet and hold them as he gave them that last shot that brought death as kindly as we were able to give it.Those cases really break my heart.I just don't understand a world that is so cruel and heartless. I've never felt like I belonged here but perhaps I do.....I'm here to help the ones I find, and thats enough,it has to be for me. I can dream of a place where all are wanted and loved and cared for,and work to make the reality as good and gentle as I can....
1. I love animals and have always had a special bond with them...
2. I hate the people who abuse, neglect, ignore and throw away animals like so much garbage.
3. I am very close to horses and have two of my own...They are wonderful creatures...
4. I hate the slaughter trade and the people who think they have to beat their horses to teach them.
5. I love nature in all its glory and enjoy the woods around my home very much.
6. I hate the thing they call Progress that seems to want to pave every square inch of the world and throw up a mall
7. I love it when I find an abused animal and bring it home with me and teach it that theres love and food galore at my house.
8. I hate it when I'm too late, and the animal is too far gone to save and having it put down is the only kindness I can ever show it
9. I love it when I watch my son play with his puppy and know I'm teaching him kindness and love for all the creatures we share the world with.
10. I hate it when I've had to look into my little boy's eyes and explain that god needed another angel puppy, kitten,or whatever animal it is that we couldn't save...
