Save America's Wolves

Dear Friends,

Thank you for taking the time to send a message to President Obama. Together, we’re a powerful voice in the fight to protect Idaho’s wolves and other imperiled wildlife.

Make sure President Obama hears your message! Call the White House comment line at 202-456-1111 and deliver this simple message:

“My name is ___________ and I’m calling from ________ to urge President Obama to restore Endangered Species Act protections for wolves in Idaho and Montana.

Americans have worked too hard to rescue these wolves from the brink of extinction to allow officials in Idaho and Montana to eliminate more than two-thirds of the region's wolves through hunting and other methods.”

Please let us know you called, so we can better target our communications to the White House.

Call the White House ! Please accept my gratitude for your efforts today. With your help, we can stop Idaho’s deadly wolf hunt, save the lives of wolves and ensure a brighter future for these magnificent animals.

Best Regards,

Rodger and the Defenders of Wildlife Team

The Global Community will have its say vis a vis ebay in terms of boycotts. Ebay will soon discover that their decision making policies on this issue and many others are not acceptable. Your message will be posted and shared at many advocacy sites and circulated world wide.

Ultimately it is the consumer who makes the decision irrregardlesss of what ebay chooses to do!

Hello Rosemary, Thank you for contacting our legal team with your concern. I understand this is a sensitive issue and one that you are very passionate about. As you know, eBay is a unique global online marketplace. Our international team of legal and policy experts constantly review, refresh and streamline our policies closely collaborating with international and domestic law enforcement authorities, regulatory agencies, non-governmental organizations and our community of buyers and sellers. Over the last several months, eBay has worked closely with Raincoast Conservation and Big Wildlife to understand their concerns and evaluate their request for eBay to prohibit the listing of certain types of hunting guide services on eBay. We conducted a review of the data and information provided, held extensive internal discussions, and reviewed the sellers of relevant hunting experiences on eBay. While these decisions are never easy for us to make, we have decided that we will not be expanding the scope of prohibited hunting guide services at this time. These services are allowed by government agencies in the US and Canada with jurisdiction over such activities, including the California Fish and Game Commission, and are widely offered on numerous online commerce sites and off-line retail venues. These facts contributed to our decision not to prohibit such listings on eBay. eBay is an open marketplace based on the principle that anyone can buy or sell just about anything, as long as those sales comply with applicable laws and our policies. We have tens of millions of active users around the world with a wide range of social, political, and ethical points of view. Respecting the diversity of opinions and points of view found within our community, our general position is that if an item can be sold legally off eBay, it can be sold on eBay. Beyond that, our community of users generally decides what to sell and what to buy on our platforms. Please know that your concerns have been documented and they will reach the appropriate department within eBay. Maintaining an open dialogue with our members is very important to us as it helps us to define our policies, and creates a community we can all be proud of. I appreciate the time you took to send your concerns today. Kind Regards, Kristine Office of the President eBay, Inc. ----- Original Message ----- From: rosemary rannes To: Christin, Jack Sent: Tue May 12 00:09:07 2009 Subject: stop posting sales of trophy hunts Jack Christin eBay Senior Regulatory Counsel Dear Sir's, Immediately stop posting sales of trophy hunts of top carnivores including lions, leopards, bears, wolves, coyotes, and other predators.  Trophy hunting of majestic animals like leopards, lions, and bears for "sport" is not only scientifically indefensible but incredibly offensive to most people. Expansive hunting of top predators also ignores the importance these species play in natural systems. As "keystone species," they help sustain ecological integrity and preserve species diversity. Renowned anthropologist Margaret Mead once said, ?Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it?s the only thing that ever has.?  Many states have banned barbaric hunting methods, such as hounding and baiting, and inhumane wildlife ?management? practices.  Communities are moving away from lethal controls of species like cougars and bears to cope with conflicts and instead employing preventative, humane measures to avoid encounters with wildlife. Some species, such as wolves and grizzly bears, have been afforded federal and state protections, ultimately rescuing them from extinction. And society in general is developing a better understanding of the importance wildlife such as top and mid-level carnivores play in maintaining ecosystem health   So Stop with the Trophy Hunts !! rosemary rannes
