I AM ISSUING A CHALLENGE TO ALL OF CARE2.
WE ARE HERE AT CARE2 TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. WE USE THIS WONDERFUL VENUE AS A MEDIUM WHEREBY WE CAN MAKE EFFECTIVE CHANGE. WE SEND MESSAGES, SIGN PETITIONS, DISCUSS OUR CHOSEN CAUSES.

NOW, MY CARE2 BROTHERS AND SISTERS, WE HAVE A CHANCE TO DO SOMETHING SO POWERFUL IT COULD CHANGE THE FACE OF THE PLANET. WE CAN BRING ABOUT CHANGE THAT WILL RIGHT WRONGS, GIVE HOPE FOR THE FUTURE, SUPPORT OUR BELIEFS. HOW? BY ELECTING THE RIGHT PRESIDENT. AND WHO WOULD THAT BE? DENNIS KUCINICH!!

There is only ONE presidential candidate who has had the strength of conviction to fight back at an administration out of control. Dennis Kucinich proposed House Resolution 333 - articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney. While the entire Democratic party has been sitting on its hands, Kucinich has been working for us - the ONLY congressman to do so. Do you know who he is? Have you heard his voice? Have you gone to YouTube and seen even one video about him? Take a look at this one.

KUCINICH - THE PATH TO VICTORY

This man could - no, SHOULD - be our next president. There are 7 million of us here at Care2. We could make his election a certainty. And why would we? Because he lives our beliefs. He is strong in his commitment to peace and a restoration of American values. This guy is the real deal, folks, and WE can elect him. Take a look. It made me know who I'll vote for. It might confirm your choice as well. Kucinich is the real deal. He's pro-union, pro-universal health care, anti-war, pro-diplomacy. He's one of the little guys - a true grass roots politician. He doesn't talk down to us. He talks straight to us. This is the guy, folks. Watch this video. Got to his website - Dennis4President. Take time to learn about him. You'll be amazed and impressed. I was.

Dear Care2 friends:

In large part my reason for being a part of Care2 is because of my fervent belief that people can change. We need to change our habits so we can heal our environment. And what better way to do that than to start with ourselves? This list of products and suggestions are just some of the things you can do to help stop global warming. It isn't something we should think about - it is something we all must do. Without worldwide cooperative effort our planet will die from our apathy. We need to become active participants in the repair of our environment. Get involved now. Shrink your carbon footprint.  It's your planet - your life.

Whatever happened to green consumers?

Simple Shoes - Great shoes, tee-shirts, bags and caps made using renewable and recycled resources. Great stuff!
Green Home - the Environmental Store
- Everything from clothing to appliances to electronics - if you can't
find it here, you didn't look long enough. FABULOUS site!! (Check out
Green Home Living magazine - their informative publication!)
ZERO EMISSION VEHICLES:
- Phoenix Motorcars - pickups and SUV tye body styles. Fairly reasonable, good range, mainstream design. NICE!
- Myers Motors NmG - Street legal, interstate capable, single person electric vehicle. Drives like an enclosed motorcycle.
- Zap Smart Car
- Three wheeled zero pollution cars and pickups, sporty cars and SUV
style vehicles. All-electric. Zap plants trees every time a car is
sold. The Zebra sells for about $12K.
- REVA the ElectriCity Car - An Indian import which will be test marketed in the U.S. this year. Watch for it.
- Telsa Motors - The Tesla Roadster is certainly a sexy little devil. It has a 200 mile range as well. BUT - it's $90K.
RAISE YOUR OWN or BUY LOCAL PRODUCE
- Don't buy from your grocery store during the growing season - buy at
farmer's markets and roadside stands instead. ASK if their products at
the farmer's market are locally produced. If not - don't buy them.
Produce grown in other states and shipped to your community contributes
to the pollution cycle. Locally grown fruits and vegetables have a far
smaller carbon footprint.
WALK or BIKE TO WORK
- If you work where you live - walk for Pete's sake. We don't have to
crank up the car for everything. You'll get some exercise, too. Walk to
the Library - to the book store - to the bakery. Walk to a nearby
restaurant instead of driving and chat on the walk home. What a concept!
JOIN A RECYCLING COOPERATIVE - OR ESTABLISH ONE
- I became involved quite recently with a great recycling cooperative
called Janesville Freecycle through Yahoo Communities. I have given
away a hampster cage, received gutter toppers, and found a place to get
perennial plants! Instead of chucking the hampster cage or the gutter
toppers in the landfill they will be reused, thereby avoiding the
trucking needed to move new hampster cages and gutter toppers and
bedding plants to my community. Free products. Tiny carbon footprint.
USE YOUR OWN SHOPPING BAGS
- Years ago I bought four woven mesh bags with sturdy handles and I'm
still using them for all my shopping. I LOVE them. Hang them on the
doorknob so you'll remember to take them with you every day. Works like
a charm!
BUY LOCALLY PRODUCED MEATS, EGGS, CHEESES, MILK - Again - shipping has a HUGE carbon footprint. Buying locally shrinks the carbon footprint and often the prices are better.
GET A HOMEOWNERS GUIDE TO ENERGY USAGE - Learn how to lessen your home's carbon footprint. Get an a homeowner's guide to energy usage from your energy provider.

Hello, friends:

I found this wonderful article at Spiegel online, the web presence for der Spiegel, the German newspaper. According to the article we might just be able to pull ourselves back from the brink of extinction, but we need to do it together and soon.

It's a fascinating read. For someone as pessimistic about our chances as I have been of late, this brings a breath of hope. PLEASE read it my friends. I believe it's a road to recovery.

MITIGATING MEASURES

The Worst May Be Avoidable

The worst consequences of climate change can still be avoided -- if humanity acts quickly. The IPCC has determined that doing so would cost just 0.1 percent of world GDP. But the rise in CO2 emissions would have to stop by 2015.

Guys, if this wasn't so ominous, it would simply be pathetic.

It illustrates all too clearly what we can expect in future.

Several years ago I wrote an angry letter to the editor of the local newspaper outlining my disgust at the drastic over-pruning of dozens of trees on a main thoroughfare in my city, Janesville, WI. In response I received a call from a nice man who invited me to drop by and sit in on a meeting of the Janesville Shade Tree Advisory committee.

I did. At that first meeting I learned that it is made up of City and State professionals in park management and forestry, certified arborists and landscape architects from the private sector, retired educators, foresters, and just plain garden variety tree-huggers. I attended that first meeting not knowing what to expect, and have been a member of the organization ever since.

To understand this group and others like it, it is necessary to understand its mission.

The Mission of the Janesville Shade Tree Advisory Committee shall be to promote and enhance the beauty and general welfare of Janesville's urban forest.

But it's about far more than beauty - it's about the very real contribution we can make to the health of our immediate environment and the overall health of the planet. When I became a member I knew little more than that I loved trees. Now I understand just how vital they are to our lives, and to the health of our cities. STACs are springing up all over the country, and as part of that growth cities are engaging in tree plantings that cool buildings, lower the ambient temperature of entire neighborhoods, leach toxic gases from the air, trap particulate matter on their leaves and in their bark. Just by the simple act of planting trees we can improve our lives, and the health of the communities - perhaps the entire planet. Visit our website to see what a small group of people can accomplish. Pay special attention to the History page.

Visit: www.jstac.org

None of us have a lot of time to give. We're not a group of suit jacket and tie activists. We are in the trenches, getting our hands dirty. We survive on grants and donations and have done wonders with those funds.  We have accomplished much, and if we can do it in our community - you can do it in yours. Start a STAC. Plant some trees. It's a wonderful way to give back to your community - and to the earth.
