I went out to the farm early this morning, to help Mom and Dad bring the cattle home from the north pasture. We drove up in the truck with some grain to lure the cattle with.

Most of the cattle came right away. Only one lame cow stayed back with her calf. When I went to bring them in the calf headed straight for the brush, pasture born calves are a little wild.

The bulls started fighting, perhaps knowing that things would be different back at the farm with the bigger bull. They almost flattened the fence a few times.

When the tractor trailer got there we loaded it up in fairly short order. Dad went with the driver to open gates, while Mom and I brought the lame cow up. Her calf stayed in the bush, but it should come out as soon as it gets hungry.

After the second load the cattle broke down a large section of the corrals. I went with the driver to give him a hand while Dad fixed the corral as best he could.

Eventually it was done. The fourth and final load arrived back at the farm.

I watched the cows for a bit, spotting my little heifer in with the main herd. She looks good, though I'll have to take those horns off her next time she's in the headgate.

We had some lunch, then I went into town to do a few errands.

There was a house fire early in the morning. The street was full of fire trucks and police cars. I took a few photographs as the firefighters checked for hotspots. Luckily the house was unoccupied, there was no damage to any other property, and there were no injuries reported.

I went down to Reston with Echo to see Dana in the afternoon. We replaced the fascia board on the addition of her house, then had a nice supper with Victoria and Wanda.

After supper we watched a movie, then Echo and I went back to Virden....

There was a loud knock at my front door this morning. When I answered it I found my neighbour looking very upset, asking for help. She was worried about a kitten that had gotten out on the ice of the creek.

She went to watch over the kitten, and I got dressed. When I made it down to the creek the kitten was safe and sound, hidden under someone's steps.

Dana came in to open the bookstore. I went over to visit, then went out to do some errands.

After supper I stayed at the house and sorted through some more of my old photographs....

I took Dana in to see the dentist again today. Another crown. While she was in the dentist's office I went to see about getting some photographs made into art prints.

When Dana got out we did a little grocery shopping, got a coffee to go, and went back to Virden.

Dana and Victoria went back to Reston, and I went to the movie after supper....

I took some old photographs to the town office. They want to restore the judge's tower, and I found a couple of really good photographs circa 1910 or so.

Dana and Victoria came in to open the bookstore. I went over for a visit, and took Dana out for lunch.

After lunch I took Dana to my house so that she could stain and varnish the new window display for the bookstore. I went to get my hair cut, Dana had picked out a different haircut that she wanted me to try.

Dana and Victoria went home. I did a few things online, then went back to my house....

I went to Brandon this afternoon to see the mental health worker. She was concerned about some of the recent events I told her about.

Later on I did a few errands for Dana.

On the way back to Virden I saw something unusual. A light in the sky, of the same magnitude and general appearance of the planet (Jupiter?)which has been visible in the sky for some time now.

It appeared just below that planet, in fact, and made a j-hook maneuver before fading out. I pulled my car over as soon as I saw it, but couldn't get my cellphone ready to take a video before the light disappeared.

I have no idea what it could have been. I had no real frame of reference regarding size or speed.

My best guess is that it was a piece of debris reflecting light from a farmyard fairly nearby....

I went out to the farm after supper today, to look at Grampa's old photographs. A local business owner wants to restore his storefront and asked me if I had any pictures of it.

Unfortunately, Grampa didn't take a picture of that particular building....

I put the linoleum top on the new window display for Dana's bookstore. Now all it needs is a bit of trim and some stain.

After supper I went to the Westman Emergency Group meeting. We discussed preparedness for the H1N1 flu, and were told to decide now whether on not we would be showing up if a do not congregate order was passed.

I played poker at the Legion. It went well enough even thought I wasn't getting good cards, until I went all in at what turned out to be the wrong time....

It was another quiet day. When I toured the town looking for Halloween damage all I found was one smashed pumpkin and some empty beer cans.

I went down to Reston to see Dana and we took Echo for a walk on the Canupawakpa hiking trail. There's a beaver there that has been very busy.

When I went back to Virden I watched a couple of movies, then went to bed....

It was a strangely quiet day....

After supper I got a few trick-or-treaters. Then I went to play poker at the Legion.

I did very well, until my pocket queens let me down....
