To date, 1DollarClub.org is in cooperation with four charities that strongly support 1DollarClub’s mission and goals. These charities include Doctors Without Borders, Free Rice, The Elders, and Shelter For Life. Each of these charities was strategically chosen based on their commitment to help those in need, their new and innovative ways of thinking and their willingness to help make a difference in the world. We feel that it is very important to recognize these charities and take some time tell you a little about them.
Doctors Without Borders
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.
On any one day, more than 27,000 committed individuals representing dozens of nationalities can be found providing assistance to people caught in crises around the world. The are doctors, nurses, logistic experts, administrators, epidemiologists, laboratory technicians, mental health professionals, and others who work together in accordance with MSF’s guiding principles of humanitarian action and medical ethics.
MSF’s work is based on the humanitarian principles of medical ethics and impartiality. The organization is committed to bringing quality medical care to people caught in crisis regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation.
Free Rice
FreeRice has two primary goals. The first consists of providing English vocabulary to everyone for free. The second goal is to help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.
FreeRice believes that whether you are CEO of a large corporation or a street child in a poor country, improving your vocabulary can improve your life. It is a great investment in yourself. And perhaps even greater is the investment your donated rice makes in hungry human beings, enabling them to function and be productive. It is nice to know that somewhere in the world; a person is eating rice that has been supplied by our website through people’s commitment to expand their minds.
The Elders
The Elders is a gathering of world leaders who have come together to guide and support the “global village.” The only agenda of The Elders is that of humanity and their only purpose is to ease human suffering in three essential areas:
Offering a catalyst for the peaceful resolution of conflict.
Seeking new approaches to seemingly intractable global issues.
Sharing wisdom: reaching out to grassroots Elders and to the next generation of leaders. Listening and helping to amplify voices for good all over the world.
Shelter For Life
SFL believes that sustainable communities are builtthrough the shared involvement of local people who are empowered to be an integral part of the rebuilding process. With this grassroots approach, SFL enables people devastated by conflict and disaster to become part of the solution. This process begins through the physical reconstruction of the community: shelters, schools, clinics, and infrastructure.
Families are trained in construction techniques and rebuild their homes, brick by brick. Village members are organized to identify critical infrastructure needs and reconstruct bridges, roads, wells, schools, clinics, or local markets. SFL equips people with training, tools, and materials to permanently rebuild their communities.
But SFL programs are more than just bricks and mortar. By integrating construction projects with community development programs, the results go beyond new shelters, roads, and water systems. SFL's comprehensive approach rebuilds communities, offers hope, restores dignity, develops local capacity, and creates environments where people feel physically, psychologically, and economically secure.
