The diary by Anaïs Nin, and the movie, Henry and June
I haven't read the book yet, but the movie has captured my interest enough for me to follow up on books by Anaïs Nin and perhaps to find more about Henry Miller's books.
The following come from Tumblr 'Henry and June' pages:

  • “That is the weakest way of enjoying life: to let it whip you…. Pain is something to master, not wallow in.” — Anaïs Nin
  • “Women always think that when they have my shoes, my dress, my hairdresser, my makeup, it will all work the same way. They do not conceive of the witchcraft that is needed. They do not know that I am not beautiful but that I only appear to be at certain moments.” (June 1932 from Henry and June)
  • (Review by dressinginthedark) Henry and June is based on the diaries of Anais Nin and chronicles her romance with Henry Miller. As a fan of Miller, Fred Ward’s performance almost feels like a parody of the man that wrote Tropic of Cancer and Uma Thurman, as June, seems to have been directed to portray one emotion: lust. Maria de Medieros turns in a tender and strange performance as Anais and is framed beautifully throughout the entire movie. If there’s one saving grace, and there are a few, it would’ve been Medeiros’ gorgeous eyes. The film has its moments of beauty amidst the Skinemax scenes that are surprisingly fantastic. That being said, the film is littered with irritating performances and a very limited script that does little to explore Nin’s fascination with the Miller’s other than portraying her as a repressed nymphomaniac. Onto the clothes, there’s much more to admire in the costume design than there is in most of the film. Nin, famous for her eclectic fashion sense, easily steals the show in her understated jewelry and billowy dresses that beg to be taken off throughout the film. Henry Miller wears the same jacket, shirt, tie and hat for most of the film but they perfectly capture the romanticized image one would have of Miller living in Paris.

We could reduce government spending on Law Enforcement and increase Tax Revenue at the same time... If only we had Legal Marijuana. Then we could afford to do important work like funding space exploration. http://www.zazzle.com/gre gvan
