There is only one way to get the kind of government we want, one that serves the people instead of the interests of multinational corporations, banking & the rich; we have to do it ourselves. As things are now our government representatives are chosen mostly by moneymen and we get to vote for their choices, Republican or Democrat.
Is a 3rd party the answer? That will take some time to organize if we, the people, decide that is what is needed, but in the meantime we should be able to make certain demands upon those already entrenched. Social media is powerful and it is our voice!
I have been lying low for quite awhile feeling I have been blogged out, but so much sh!t has been going down that I have to speak out.
The latest is the collapse of the I35W bridge in Minneapolis. Reporters gushing about the heroism displayed. Hey! Wake up guys & gals of the media! That's who Americans are. Duh! It's part of what makes us Americans, the fact that we will drop all thoughts of self-preservation to help someone we percieive as being in a worse situation than we are. We are so far in front of the media and the politicians, I often woner if we wouldn't be better off without them.
Just think about it. If it had been left up to us when Katrina wreaked havoc, without hesitation we'd have sprung into action, mustered all of the resources we could get our hands on and probably managed to rescue everyone who needed it with no or very little loss of life. Once we saw that our elected government sat on it's collective hands that's exactly what we did because it's who we are.
As a native of NYC, it galls me to see Rudy hailed as "America's Mayor", the one considered by some as most qualified ro protect us from terrorists. Sure he was walking the streets, he had nowhere to go since his office had been demolished because he put it where darned near everyone had warned him was unsafe! Firefighters and Police died needlessly because he didn't put in a communication system that both could use to talk to each other. How could you expect someone who would try to move his girlfriend into the Mayor's mansion while his wife and kids were living there to have any compassion for the less fortunate among us. If you think Cheney is heartless, you gotta check Guiliani! I could go on but space is at a premium.
Bush has Petraeus set up to be his fall guy for failure in Iraq. There is no way the military can win over there because they'd have to choose sides or referee for the next couple of hundred years. The Bush "coalition" government is a total sham and it blows my mind that the rest of the Mid-eastern states are sitting back as of they were watching a tennis match. What happens in Iraq affects them more than they'd like to admit.
As for our troops, the criminals in Washington sent them into battle with a half-assed plan that took no account of what would happen when they got to Baghdad. Rumsfeld let the looters "blow off steam" while they trashed what was left of the infastructure and armed themselves to the teeth. What? No weapons of mass destruction? Er... a minor detail. What? Bin Laden isn't in Iraq? "Not giving him much thought", said Bush. And we accepted it - well some did anyway.
The media started waking up during Katrina because even they could not ignore their own images, but they are still lacking in aggressively advocating for the truth instead of invitations to those political functions with the rubber chicken dinners they are so fond of attending. Making political mountains out of molehills is their favorite pasttime these days. They are as smug and smarmy as ever.
Our troops have been used to field test new weapons systems that we have for sale. They don't get the proper rest, care or attention, their families are lied to when they don't male it back alive, and the bureaucrats make them jump through hoops to get what benefits they are entitled to, just like HMOs.
If it were left up to me I'd impeach the whole damned lot of them, Democrats & Republicans alike! Sweep D.C. clean of the whole bunch and have new elections where whoever got the most votes got the job. To hell with these political parties. And elections need to be publicly funded with no corporate or lobbying interests allowed to donate.
I'm all steamed up and just getting started. Plus I have some topics to revisit in-depth.
