How can we say we respect international laws when we are so quick to break them? How can we not see that deconflicting with proxies in the area is not walking away, that's fiction, but working toward a solution that understands that we are not going to strongarm Assad or any other fighters in the region into stopping, but might actually escalate things? No one said walk away and Boxer and Feinstein seem to be interpreting calls to consider other options that way. That is a mistake and shows how caught up they are in having the conversation forget horrible implications and unintended consequences of us taking matters into our hands quickly and swiftly. We could stop locking horns with everyone who understands that this could very well negatively and very adversely affect the region and our dog in the fight is humanity, no matter what, not just acting irrationally and overreacting after getting intelligence. We can engage directly with the parties arming the belligerents in Syria to negotiate a full international arms embargo. It's not about just acting on intelligence and deciding what is a meaningful response to elected officials. It's understanding that they are supposed to represent the will of the people not just independently act. Even if the intelligence is verifiable, credible, and damning and not just a single source, then the way we respond is still open to various options.

We have learned, a bit to late in the day, that action springs not from thought but from a readiness for responsibility.....Silenc e in the face of evil is of itself evil.  Not to speak is to speak.  Not to act is to act.
