On the night of Valentine's Day, my daughter Morgana, and a friend Nijjy and I took baskets of very decorated, home made lemon sugar cookies and new socks to street people in our little city of Victoria, BC. I've done this for nearly 8 years, since my daughter was temporarily living on the street while using drugs. The street people were very good to her and protected her from the uglies things that young kids often experience. I've felt this small gift each Valentine's day and Christmas has been one way I can show appreciation for how good they were to her. She has been clean for a long time now, and has spoken to an estimated 20,000+ students with the Crystal Meth Society, to let them know how dangerous and destructive drugs were in her life.

Here is Nijjy with me in the kitchen at my house, after we decorated some of the many dozens of cookies on the Saturday before we hit the streets with them. It was a windy, wet, cold night. All the Victoria shelters were full. We walked miles and found people lying in doorways, huddled in little tight places trying to keep out of the weather, late at night. Faces lit up, smiles shone out of the dark, and we all had a great time. One woman with no socks on was ecstatic to get her three pair of clean, new socks and put two pair on right away. She said she would use the 3rd pair as mittens on that chilly, wet night. We saw that of God in everyone we met. Such a small thing, a decorated cookie and socks.
