Could everyone do me a favor? I'm begging you. Don't tell anyone you're pregnant or that you've been in some kind of accident. Just tell them their shoe is untied. Please. And don't tell your 2 to 5 year old that his name isn't his name or that he's his brother. He's too young to think it's funny. [[EMOTICON:SAD1]] [[EMOTICON:SAD2]] [[EMOTICON:SAD3]]

Children need to be breastfed for a MINIMUM of two and a half years. If you think your child is weaning around the age of one year or younger, that is NOT what is happening! It is very common for babies around the age of one year (around 10 to 14 months or so) to go on what is known as a nursing strike. Click on the following link to learn about how to get through a nursing strike and then get the child back to the breast where the child needs to be!

Don't let your doctor/OB induce you! It is not good for the baby. I know the doctor tries to sound like he knows what he's talking about, but in actuality he doesn't have a clue. If he tells you your baby is 10 pounds and your pelvis isn't wide enough, just keep in mind that your doctor is, in fact, clueless, as previously mentioned. Do not allow an internal exam during your 9th month of pregnancy. Your doctor might sweep your membranes without even asking you. This can cause the baby to be born before it is ready. The baby is the one who knows when the baby is ready to be born, and the baby will be born when the baby is ready to be born. The doctor does NOT know when it is time for the baby to be born!! The doctor only knows what day the doctor wants to go golfing, and he doesn't want your birth getting in the way of that. (You should also keep that in mind when the doctor tells you you need a c-section!)

I have a suspicion (and I hope I'm wrong) that many doctors might be pushing cochlear implants as the standard procedure for deaf children, instead of simply discussing them as one option. I hope parents will do their own research about the advantages and disadvantages of cochlear implants. For one thing they permanently destroy any amount of hearing that the ear might naturally have. Sometimes they cause static or annoying noises. They're also very invasive; they go right into the brain. There's no reason a Deaf child who uses American Sign Language couldn't be a full and active member of both hearing culture and Deaf Culture. A child with a cochlear implant, on the other hand, is going to have a more difficult time fitting into either culture. Please think about it and consider your options. Perhaps this is not a decision that should be made FOR the child since it's irreversible.

Why isn't the space program considered a higher priority? Even if we were ideal stewards of the environment, it won't be too many thousands of years before plate tectonics cause another mass extinction and no human will be able to survive on Earth, and there will be nothing we can do to change that. We NEED to get OFF of this ROCK!! We need to start the process NOW. As SOON as we have the technology. We need to colonize the moon and then we need to colonize another planet or moon in this solar system and then we need to colonize a world in another solar system. Our sun isn't going to last forever. This isn't crackpot paranoia. This is mainstream science. Do people just not care about human extinction, as long as it doesn't happen in their lifetime? Shouldn't we care about our distant descendants? Don't we want the DNA we're passing on to keep getting passed on forever, or at least as long as possible? I'm not talking about colonizing any world that already has life on it. And if there's a solar system that already has life in it that is equal or superior to ours in technology, then I wouldn't even favor colonization in that solar system. The process of making a world suitable for self-sufficient human life is going to TAKE A WHILE. That's why we need to start NOW. It's only 15,000 years until the next ice age. That's not very long, people. A glacier is going to cover as far south as New York City. We need to think about preserving our civilization in the long term.

My mother used to tell me that people treat their dogs better than they treat their own children, and I used to think she was exaggerating. But it's literally true. People let their dogs sleep in their beds with them. Then they put their own baby in a crib in a separate room. It's disgusting and revolting. What the hell are people thinking?
