I write today out of sadness. I had to put my 12-year-old cat, Felischia, pictured here, down to sleep on March 22. I blame my ex-husband in part. Because of his physical abuses on her, she had severe arthritis. I am still getting over not having her around. I can see her in my mind and I can still hear her purr in my mind, but I will never again pet her and watch all the hair fly off her pain-filled body. I miss her dearly, as does Sammy, my other cat. I have a new hero. His name is Steve Wilkos. If you don't know who he is, look him up! His show is amazing. Moron-free TV! Who knew it could ever happen. Life is pretty up and down right now. One minute I'm happy and the next I'm as jittery as a leaf in a strong wind. Still, life goes on and I am glad it does.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.I was reading my Bible this evening and this was the passage. It is one many a Christian is well known to.To be honest, I have started to keep a small book of popular verses that are commonly used because I can never remember at the right moment where to find it.It awes me to think that God has thoughts of me.In the grand scheme of things, I do not feel important to the world and how it operates.I am not Martin Luther King who “had a dream.”I am not a great orator such as JFK was when he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”And I am not Rick Hanson who was able to go across my nation of Canada and raise funds for specific causes.I look at these people as heroes; as people I aspire to live my life after. To be courageous and to stand up for what I believe in regardless of what happens to my personal being; to be able to come up with a wonderful speech that will move a nation or to have it in me to be persistent in pursuing a cause that takes a year or two to flourish and come to pass. However, God has other plans.Isaiah also said earlier in the passage:“3 “Come to me with your ears wide open.Listen, and you will find life.I will make an everlasting covenant with you.I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.4 See how I used him to display my power among the peoples.I made him a leader among the nations.5 You also will command nations you do not know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey, because I, the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious.”(vs. 3-5)The key verse that stood out to me was verse 5 – You also will command nations you do not know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey, because I, the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious.Reread that verse again.I had to.My first thought was, “I can’t be a leader among the nations!I wouldn’t even want that much responsibility. And aside from that, who would want to follow me?”But then God started to whisper things to me that made me aware that I was already leading nations. Not in a political way do I lead people, but through the internet, I have become a mentor, moderator, writer, sermon writer for a Minister in Africa and so on.That’s when I saw that I am already a leader of many nations. And as honoured as I am to have these positions, it is also a very humbling and heavy burden at times. There is great joy in being a leader when you see the fruits of what you have done come through in people’s lives. But what God is saying that you will be leaders of nations, does not necessarily mean in a political way.Perhaps you have friends on different continents that look up to you or come to you for advice or wisdom.Maybe on a chat site sometime you have said something positive that a person there needed to hear and you are not even aware of it.Remember the song Ivan Parker sings, “Thank you for giving to the Lord.”It talks about the little things you do that you didn’t take much notice of and how God took it and used it for His glory and to save a soul you may have never known.Never think you are too small, too old, too young, too under-educated and so on.Keep the faith and remember that your thoughts are not the same as God’s thoughts, nor are your ways the same as God’s ways.God uses our weaknesses to make His glory shine through us and in us.And it does not matter what you have been through, whether you were a victim of a crime or were the attacker of a crime.God uses all people, all ages, both genders etc.The only requirement is that you are available when He comes calling on you.To be ready, one must be in the Word daily, you must pray and listen daily and be open to read through the lines of some of the things people confide in you.If anybody comes to you for prayer, advice or other, thank God.He has chosen you to be His vessel for that person or group of persons.Be honoured enough to accept His request, but be humble enough to not become prideful in what you do.For those who lead will be judged even more harshly on the Day of Judgment that you have not lead people astray.Vs. 5 - You also will command nations you do not know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey, because I, the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious.”Allow God to make you glorious today.Thank you Father for calling me to be a servant of the Most High God.Use me to bring glory to Your name and Kingdom today and forthwith. I want to be a leader of nations and I leave the details in Your hands now.Thank you for calling me today. In Jesus’ name, Amen
We can curse in chat rooms, dress provocatively and sometimes according to religious beliefs, ignore AND get away with breaking certain laws not enforced, watch all the violence we want on television, and play electronic games about violence, sex and more, yet we cannot sing Christmas songs at Christmas that contain religious content. We cannot pray in school despite the fact the song God Bless America is still used.We can make out on the streets, annoy our neighbours with loud music or bass boost, but we cannot sing Christian songs in the public. We can gather on streets and drink, smoke and even deal drugs, but we cannot pray in public.
I have been a Christian since I was 13 years old and I am currently 38.Over the course of the last 25 years, I have seen such a decline in what religious or Christian people are allowed to do just because it may offend somebody.
Jesus told us we would be persecuted:
Matthew 5:10 – God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
Matthew 24:9 – Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers.
John 15:20 – Do you remember what I told you?“A slave is not greater than the master.”Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you.And if they had listened to me, they would listen to you.”
I have been to several chat rooms – self-help ones mind you.In there, we are supposed to support and encourage each other.Even that is Scriptural – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 – So encourage each other and build each other up.Cool.Every chat room has rules that people are supposed to abide by.One of the most common rules is there is to be no talk of religion.Another common rule is that there is to be no vulgarity or swearing going on.Now comes my point – why is it, the vulgarity and swearing can be gotten away with but the religious talk is so attacked?
People can find so many ways to get their point across in sly and deceitful manners. They use short forms that are common to chat rooms and emails.Or there is a Censoring operation in effect so if people swear, it will not appear to the rest of the chatters.
If people who call themselves Christians are not allowed to have their songs sung on radios, televisions and through other media, then why are so-called “secular” artists permitted to sing about religious topics or beings?I have nothing against any of the people below, but commend them on their songs, but these are just some songs to consider that are considered secular but have religious meaning:
God Bless America
From A Distance
Did You Ever Know You’re My Hero
Circle of Life
Theme song of Pocohantas
God Gave Rock and Roll to You – Kiss
Unchained Melody – Righteous Bros
12 Days of Christmas – was originally a secret code for Christians
LoveCanMoveMountains – Celine Dion
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Testify To Love – Wynona Judd
House of Love – Amy Grant
Losing My Religion – REM
God – Tori Amos
Forgiven – Alanis Morisette
Who Will Save Your Soul – Jewel
Unanswered Prayer – Garth Brooks
Forever and Ever Amen – Randy Travis
Personal Jesus – Depeche Mode
One of Us – Joan Osborne
Devil Went Down to Georgia – a regular for the radio here
Dear God – Sara Mclachlan
Hey Jesus – Indigo Girl
Tears In Heaven –Eric Clapton
The list is endless…………
If Christian artists cannot play their music on public media, then how is it the secular artists can get away with it?Is this not what we call prejudiced or biased?
I can get very indignant when I am not permitted to express my joy of my life.My life consists of loving the Lord with all my heart and doing as I believe He wants me to.I also know that God does not need to be defended – He is big enough to defend Himself. But I can get so angry because I am silenced about what causes me the most joy while here on earth while other people can talk about sex, drugs, booze, and so many other things that they find helpful, fun, fulfilling and so on.
I look back at the lives of my Grandparents, one who lived until he was 89, and I wonder how they must have felt as the times changed and they saw God banned from places like schools, libraries, courtrooms, government buildings and so on.Even Remembrance Day and O Canada are neglected or disrespected. How sad it must have been for the seniors to watch the decline of the Christian life.
Still, we must persevere and not let it block our calling. Acts 20:24 – But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
We can be angry because of being silenced but we must not let that anger cause us to stumble and sin:
Ephesians 4:25 – In your anger do not sin:Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry (NIV).
Even Jesus got angry, but He did not sin:
Matthew 21:12 – Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out all the people buying and selling animals for sacrifice. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves.
So Jesus has already warned us that we will be persecuted.Part of that persecution is being silenced, whether it is Christmas music that contains religious content, not being able to pray in schools, taking the 10 Commandments out of government buildings or to the point of martyrdom.Regardless of what it is, we must hand it over to the Lord and let Him deal with it.We cannot fight every fight that comes across our paths as Christians. We must choose our causes carefully and according to God’s Holy Word.
The next time you are offended for being silenced in your Christian walk, remember how Jesus must have felt just walking on this earth, Knowing what people thought of Him AND knowing what lay ahead of Him.We offended Him, to the point of death, yet He still found it in Him to forgive us.
