Many people do not realize what truely is being celebrated on Columbus Day is nothing short of genocide.

To protest the celebration of torture and robbery, wear a black armband on Monday the 9th to remember those who suffered at the hands of Columbus.

Below is a short description of the actions imposed upon the native peoples:

To everyone who believes Christopher Columbus was a great man.

After first "discovering" what he believed to be India, he would travel among the islands of the Bahamas announcing to the inhabitants that Spain would now have ownership of these lands. After Columbus would go through the ceremony of planting a Spanish flag and a cross on the islands, every time the Spanish met with the native peoples, they would read them a document informing them about Christianity and that it was required of them to submit to Spanish and Christian rule.

According to Oates in Portrait of America (a history text book), "if the Indians refused to or even delayed in their acceptance (or, more likely, their understanding) of the requirmiento, the statement continued:

"I certify to you that, with the help of God, we shall powerfully enter into your country and shall make war against you in all ways and manners that we can, and shall subject you to the yoke and obedience of the Church and of Their Highnesses. We shall take you and your wives and your children, and shall make slaves of them, and as such shall sell and dispose of them as their Highnesses may command. And we shall take your goods, and shall do you all the mischief and damage we can, as to vassals who do not obey and refuse to receive their lord and resist and contradict him."

In another instance of idiocy, Columbus had shown the native people a sword, and was surprised when they grasped the sword by the blade and cut their hands. He had assumed the people would understand the foreign weapon and its potential to injure the wielder.
