Dear God: Is it on purpose our names are the same, only reversed?
Dear God: Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another?
Dear God: When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it still the same old story?
Dear God: Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a Dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We do love a nice ride! Would it be so hard to rename the 'Chrysler Eagle' the 'Chrysler Beagle'?
Dear God: If a Dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad Dog?
Dear God: We Dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID's, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand?
Dear God: More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.
Dear God: Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?

Dear God: Let me give you a list of just some of the things I must remember to be a good Dog.
1. I will not eat the cats' food before they eat it or after they throw it up.
2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell.
3. The Litter Box is not a cookie jar.
4. The sofa is not a 'face towel'.
5. The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff.
6. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.
7. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is an unacceptable way of saying 'hello'.
8. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffee table .
9. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house - not after.
10. I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt.
11. I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch.
12. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy' so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing.
P.S. Dear God: When I get to Heaven may I have my testicles back?

This is the most critical caseMilitary Working Dog Adoptionshas dealt with yet! MWD Alan F201 stationed at Ft Myer Kennels in Virginia, has perianal fistulas. He is currently in remission...but a good home out of the stressful kennel environment would without a doubt contribute to MUCH better HEALTH for him. MWD Alan is 8 years old.
Here's the situation: The kennels at Ft Myer are waiting for the Euthnasia paperwork to come back from Lackland to give the vet permission to euthanize this MWD. I was told today that MWD Alan is probably safe until the second week of March...but after that...
Below is the vet assessment...I know for a fact that there are some cheaper altenatives to the meds and to the foods because I have researched it.
MWD Alan is people-friendly, but may be dog aggressive.
HE NEEDS A MIRACLE RIGHT NOW...please forward this to anyone whom you think may HELP THIS WONDERFUL MWD!
MWD Billy C041 has found a wonderful home thanks to your caring in California...Thank you!!!
HELP MWD ALAN have a few happy years of just being a dog. As I said, he is in REMISSION and the condition is managed...
PLEASE...I am begging you...SOMEONE help this amazing K-9 Warrior live out his years just being a dog... PLEASE!!!! We will transport this dog to you...if SOMEONE IS MOVED TO GIVE THIS DESERVING MWD A HOME!!
Contact information is listed below....
Ft Myer Kennels 703-696-3022 or 703-696-3402...also the vet contact info is at the bottom of the medical assessment.
TOGETHER we CAN make A DIFFERENCE in MWD ALAN'S life!!!
Here is a list of Alan's medications. I have also included the cost of his prescription diet food. They are priced on a monthly basis, at our/the kennel's cost without mark-up.
Currently, the Veterinary Corps is paying for the medications: $230.89/month. The Ft Myer kennels are paying for the food: approx. $416.00/month (unless they are getting a deal somewhere as they purchase a lot of food - that price is based on what our clinic would pay and without aftermarket mark-up).
Here is a list of Alan's diseases, all treatable, but incurable:
Perianal fistulas: deep skin ulcers on his backside - controlled with Atopica and Prednisone. He was on double the amount of Atopica a few months ago. I tried weaning him off of it, but could only get down to the current dose. The holes reappeared when I tried a lower dose.
Hypothyroid: thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormone - controlled with levothyroxine.
Megacolon: large intestine dilates and does not contract properly to expel feces - leads to severe constipation - controlled with lactulose that helps to soften the stool and ease the passage of the feces.
Alan is on Omeprazole (also known as Prilosec in human medicine) to help prevent gastric ulcers as the Prednisone (a steroid) he is on can lead to gastric ulcers. I will have to review his record to see exactly why he is on the z/d. We may be able to play around with his diet and find something else that may be a little cheaper.
Let me know if there is anything else I can provide you.

Hello one and all, I am very happy to report that through the diligent efforts of all of you, the cross-postings, the fliers, the good wishes and the prayers, Bones went home! He has been a week in his new home and we wanted to wait that long to be sure things were working out before we made the announcement.
A wonderful caring couple saw the video of Bones and had to do something. The video came to them from their friend on the west coast who i imagine saw it from one of your crossposts. This is such a great example of everyone rallying together to get a dog adopted, a dog that nobody really wanted who lived at the shelter for 2 years.
Bones is very happy in his new home. Aside from living with this wonderful couple, he also lives with 3 dogs, two pitbulls and one shepherd/lab. I am attaching a photo of Bones in relaxing with his new "baby sister."
It really is such a great feeling seeing him live the good life, never having to be in that cage again. He really struck doggy gold with his new family. The life of this misunderstood dog has been changed forever and all I can say to each and every one of you is thank you. You did it. Warm regards, Brian Cresto
Bones is an American Staffordshire Terrier who is desperately in need of a home. He has been at the shelter for 2 years, the longest resident, and is never the one chosen for an adoption.

ANOTHER CONTACT:
How about the applications from far away? Were any of them willing to drive out to meet him? I have had quite a few adopters from out of state and we have made it happen through pictures of them in their home, home visits by other rescues in their area, and vet references.. I am sure between the rescues across the US we could set up the home visits or whatever needs to be done in our area if their is an interested party. He could find the perfect home in another state. If travel is a problem there is also Operation Roger. Wishing Bones a happy future.

2 - Please send letters e-mails as soon as possible to the New York City Council Members listed below. Ask them not to support Intro 653-A, the carriage horse industry's bill. Stress the financial irregularities and the added tax burden on city residents. See below for talking points, but please put all correspondence in your own words.
Council Committee on Consumer Affairs
(there are 5 members. They vote on this bill first and, if passed, it will go before the entire council.)
... and e-mails for assistants in their offices if known. The official sponsor of the bill is Kendall Stewart, but David Weprin has taken the lead also. It could be because he is running for Comptroller. Note the inconsistencies between the high standards required of that office, and the many financial issues with the bill.
1. The bill calls for an increase in rates for the drivers. By law, they can charge $34 for 1/2 hour and $10 for each additional 15 minutes. They plead poverty, that they have not had a raise in 20 years. But the truth is that they have given themselves a raise. You can see this on a YouTube Video and by checking out some of their web sites. See Elaine S' testimony given at the hearing. http://www.banhdc.org/archives/news-testimonyES.shtml Use this as a resource to see the overcharging.
2. The bill would require that an independent non-governmental agency take over inspections rather than to continue with the ASPCA. This would fall within the purview of the Department of Health and be an added expense to that agency - i.e. NYC taxpayers. At a time when the City is laying off people and cutting agency budgets, this bill would add more cost. The ASPCA should continue with their job. The arrangement proposed by this bill would encourage self-inspections and cover-up.
3. The bill would require that water be available in the two Central Park water troughs year round. Of course we want the horses to have water year round. But the City should not be paying for this - the industry should. Furthermore, because there is no money in the budget to pay for such things, it is unlikely that these water troughs would ever happen under this bill. The real intention of this bill is for a rate increase, not to help the horses.
4. The bill requires that horses must be between the age of 5 and 20 when purchased but DOES NOT provide an age at which a horse must retire. The industry has had horses living into their 30's still working and then being euthanized in their stalls.
PLEASE WRITE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IT IS URGENT THAT THIS BILL MUST BE DEFEATED.
PLEASE CONTACT (PROTEST) CARE2 TO HAVE THIS PETITION TAKEN DOWN--THEY ARE HUNTERS WANTING TO KILL WOLVES! AND--HUNTERS DON'T WANT "TO LOOK" AT THE DEER & ELK--THEY WANT TO KILL THEM! THIS PETITION DOES NOT BELONG ON CARE2!
This is to open a realistic petition alternative to the touchy feely wolf advocates who dont live in the western states and dont have a clue what wolves do. Wolves dont live on field mice, grasshoppers, and tree moss. They eat meat! Lots of meat! Wolves dont dance and play games with bunnies and skunk babies. They kill and consume baby deer that are being born. Snuffing out life before they have the ability to breath air, and eat their mother while she is still alive. We dont need mass quantities of wolf feces to facilitate special parasites that can only live there. The ecosystem was fine until somebody with nothing better to do decided to fix something that actually wasnt broken. Ravens and magpies flourished before we brought back wolves. Trees and vegetation grow back naturally without help from wolves. Lets live and manage wolf numbers agreed to for a while, and if it is not a detrement to game herds or livestock then and only then increase the wolf count numbers. Letting wolves run amok is bad management practice for other game species. Fish and game need to manage for all species involved, including the human species.

PLEASE HELP "Shana's Dog Rescue" IF POSSIBLE & FORWARD--CROSS-POST.
She lived in a 3x5 cage for the first 5-6yrs of her life. Today she was spay. Tonight she will sleep in my bed. Her cage had 3" of feces in the bottom and she has at least two broken (healed) ribs and a large gash on her side. Tina and Randy from the Sallisaw pound and Forever Friends HS took her 8mo pups that had never gotten to run and play and are socializing them. We think she is Pit/Bird dogx. She weighs about 25#....drastically under weight. Her new name is "SUNSHINE"!
And her worn collar will be replaced with a Pink rhinestone collar!
Please, her bills have been high so far and still not finished. She is the sweetest dog, one of the sweetest I have ever seen!
PLEASE DONATE IF POSSIBLE: SEND TO SHANA'S VET OR PAY-PAL
PLZ HELP KELLY & APRIL IF POSSIBLE--FORWARD & CROSS-POST!
THANK YOU, BRENDA
Please - if you have a heart - read this and pass it on. Even if you can't help - someone else may be able to - thanks - De.
Recently, my older mare "April" pictured with me went down Tuesday evening and we struggled to get her up. So, far we have had a group of veterinarian's from the Madison Equine Clinic/Lodi Vet they joined practice and are working together to help "April." It's gonna be a long haul. My kids and I have expelled every ounce of energy, money and given everything we have to get this horse home to us since an illegal seizure from where she was being boarded while I moved home to help care for my father who became paralyzed overnight from a spinal surgery. It has been five years of litigation through the courts. This all happened on July 4, 2003 and the Wisconsin Court of Appeals has it on file. Kelly Mahnke vs. Columbia County. We had to find a small farmette, because my mom and dad's is not zoned to keep a horse and no one else wanted to get involved, because of the harassment by a so-called animal rescue group and a few select officers that have their pants on too tight. We are in desperate need of donations for April. She has received acupuncture and we continue to struggle financially because we have had to triple finance this home and we have maxed out all we take out on loans. If we cannot pay the mortgage we lose the home, but yet we cannot move "April." She is stall bound while she recovers and this could take 3-6 months. I have been disabled myself due to immune system problems since 1999 so my income is very limited. If anyone knows how or has suggestions on how I can get this out there where people might be able to help either sending to vet clinic or the bank, please give me some suggestions. There is one newspaper that I could contact to do a story, but with all litigation still on-going it makes it difficult and I am so frustrated. Thank you. Ms. Kelly Mahnke My regular email at home is rrkmahnke@merr.com
