Cloud needs your help! Please write a letter - a real letter not an email to the following people so Cloud's herd is not rounded up by the BLM!
Piles and piles of letters from concerned citizens, have much more impact. The individual’s comment was “Petitions are viewed as "one comment" instead of Many, many comments of concerned citizens: one letter = BIG pile of correspondence that the BLM must respond to."
In the case of the Pryor Herd, letters directly sent to the State Director of the BLM in Billings are “worth their weight in gold” as well as letters to Congressional reps “asking to get answers or details from the BLM.”

Here is some news from the Manes and Tails Organization! First, we have to send emails, handwritten letters, and faxes to our Senators and Representatives regarding HR 503, HR 305, HR 1018 and S.727. All of these bill are legislation for horses. Call the district offices as these aides are usually less busy and the call will not be expensive, I have a directory of the entire 111th Congress on my site.
Please join our newsletter using the short form on the homepage of the site.
We now have a weekly radio show. Our guests have been: Paula Bacon, Alex Brown, Christine Berry, Craig Downer, Christy Sheidy, Kathleen Hofferty and Kristen Chambers. This week our guest will be Dr. Nick Dodman who is a member of the Veterinarians for Equine Welfare.
The broadcast begins at 11pm EST, however, the files are archived on my web site.
There is a survey on the home page regarding HR 503, it is at the top of the home page.
The photo of the Wolf is 'Howlie' who I adopted from my friend Amanda Sorvino. She rescues horses, dogs, wolves, cats, and any other animal you can think of.
I created this group and then things happened and I did not have the energy to moderate it. I know that Shelley from AHDF is very active, and others as well. I would like to ask you all to take a survey I have on my website:
The sign up form is on the right hand side of the home page at the bottom. Manes and Tails Organization is still rescuing, rehabbing, retraining and rehoming horses. I am getting ready for Maddie's 'Hell ride' - her first ride where I know she will walk really, really fast and then break into a gallop. I love those rides!
I am making some major updates to the site, so please visit and take the survey, which I am sure will surprise you, and please sign up for the newsletter.
I hope all are well, and that 2009 brings all nothing but the best of everything. Here is a photo of my pet wolf! His name is 'Howlie' and he is three years old. The sweetest animal I have ever had, and he is no longer the Omega. My Basenji was raised with a wolf and she hates all dogs. She thinks she is a Lupine so the only other animal I could get to be her companion was a wolf. The cat rules the roost though...
Each and every horse here was a rescue. 'Madison' is my latest rescue. She is a 5 year old Thoroughbred mare who is an 'off the track' horse. She ended up a the New Holland slaughter auction and was rescued by Another Chance 4 Horses and adopted by Manes & Tails organization. 'Tess' and 'Mamie' are much healthier a year after I rescued them. The others really bounced back and achieved good health and trust. I Madison to do the same....

It has been a very long time since I have posted on this group. I have a new slaughterbound mare who is rehabbing, and I too am rehabbing from the same old back injury that got worse.
'Maddie' aka 'Okay Renee' was rescued from the New Holland auction on October 8, 2005. She looked like this on rescue day.
.
Maddie raced unsuccessfully and her owners dumped her at New Holland with a stifle injury. After being in quarantine for 5 months, she is getting better.
She is still very thin, but she is alert and curious and quite beautiful. The woman in the photo with Maddie is Reverend MaryLynn Schmidt who is an animal healer.
As with any off track Thorougbred, Maddie lacked socialization skills and was full of steriods. It took her 8 months to withdraw from the drugs and in the beginning she did not want to eat, and she was extremely depressed.
My biz partner in my rescue has a lovely Quarterhorse mare named 'Amber' and she and my QH gelding 'Willie' took her under their 'wing' so to speak and taught her how to be a horse. Most people do not understand that TBs are given 'milkshakes' every day they train and race and it is harmful to them.
So, Maddie is now drug free, and challenges Willie to a race every day. He is ahead of her for about 30 seconds (Quarterhorses are the fastest horse over a 1/4 mile which is how they got their name) and then Maddie leaves him in the dust!!!
Please sign the petition supporting HR 503 'The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act' which is currently being battled in congress.
Please ignore the expiration date because it is irrelvant. I will send the petition in the beginning of September because that is when the bill is going to be voted on.
I hope everyone is well, and that all are keeping cool - especially those in 'hot zones' like me!!!
Here is my horse rescue newsletter for December. This month it isn't only about horses, but also about dogs and cats being brutally tortured and killed for their fur. There are 2 petitions to sign, and a progress report on my newest rescue!!!
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and please pass it on if you feel like it.
I have tons of music on my server - just go to my horse welfare org site and click on the 'music' link. After you do that, you will see a directory and you click on the artist name and then click on the song to play it.
These are CD quality MP3 files, so they take some time to download. The 'Kate Composition' files are my originals - my dad used to call me Kate. Also, there is more stuff that I've done under the Christopher Laro folder - he is my other half and everything in there is his with me doing the music.
Also, I've got 2 songs from 'How The Grich Stole Christmas'!!! I love that stuff!!!
The horse in the photo is my latest rescue. She is a 5 year old TB mare and she was at the New Holland Slaughter auction, where Another Chance 4 Horses picked her up. I often help that org with placements, and since I could not find anyone else to take this mare, I took her. She is currently in quarantine with a warmblood breeder in Pennsylvania. She will be a lovely mare when she is fully rehabbed - she is extremely underweight and had been injured at the track. She is learning to be a horse, and getting used to being on a nice, stress free farm where she gets tons of TLC.
I sent out the following alert earlier, I have been recovering from a back injury and have not been on Care2 for a while, and I don't know what is better, the blogs or the alerts!!!
It is important to note that horse slaughter is illegal according to the Humane Slaughter Act of 1958. There does not exist a method of slaughtering horses that is, or ever will be, in compliance with this statute.
The Ensign-Byrd amendmendment to the FY 2006 Ag Appropriations bill will cause horse slaughter to temporarily cease on March 1, 2006 until September 30, 2006. This means that the horsemeat cannot be certified by the USDA and the meat cannot be exported. Rumors that independent inspectors can be used is false. If state inspectors in Texas and Illionois were used, the meat could only be sold in those 2 states.
We need faxes, letters, and/or phone calls to our 2 senators and ask them to co-sponsor S. 1915, which is the senate version of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. Currently, there are only 9 co-sponosors for this bill.
Also, we need faxes, letters, and/or phone calls to our one representative and ask them to co-sponsor H.R . 503. Currently, there are ony 131 co-sponsors for this bill, and we need more.
Why is it the case that congress is not aware that horse slaughter is illegal? Good question, but the USDA can be sued in Federal Court to make it stop.
The links provided here have all of the current co-sponsors of each bill...please phone or fax, or write a letter. You can call their district offices so you don't have to pay long distance to Washington, DC.
If you need to find the contact info for your 2 senators and one representative, you can find the list here.
