Starting in July each year, Namibian license holders start slaughtering Cape Fur seals and don't stop until they reach their quota of 85,000 baby seal pups and 6,000 bulls. This is the largest slaughter of marine life on the planet, surpassing even the Canadian seal hunt.

The cull is driven by one fur trader, Hatem Yavuz, who buys all the pelts and processes them for fashion. Only 107,910 Cape Fur seal pups were born in 2006. Despite this, 85,000 terrified pups are separated from their mothers every year and clubbed to death with clubs that have nails in them.

Slaughtering seals for fur coats and other fashions is needless and cruel. The Namibian Government could make more of a profit, increase tourism and create more jobs from live seals. Please sign the petition to urge officials to end this annual slaughter.

In late November 2011, pop star Janet Jackson debuted a line of genuine mink fur coats, jackets, vests, scarves and gloves for clothing company Blackglama. In addition to helping design the collection, Jackson is modeling for Blackglama as part of their "What Becomes a Legend Most" campaign.

Many of the artist's fans are shocked by her decision to wear and promote fur, especially since she has spoken against fur in the past and appears on several celebrity vegetarian lists. In a press statement about the fur line, Jackson said, "The art of fashion is one of my great passions."

According to Blackglama's website, "... less than 2% of the world's black mink population [is] deemed worthy of the exclusive Blackglama name." Unfortunately, these minks will live their lives in cramped cages before being killed by poison, electrocution, suffocation or gas.

An average of 40 minks must be killed to make one fur coat. In spite of this, Jackson continues to promote her fur line, as evidenced by a recently tweeted pic showing off the collection.
Please sign the petition to convince Janet Jackson to end her fur line.

In 2008, clothing company BCBG joined other high-end brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein in a pledge to stop selling fur items. Unfortunately, BCBG has recently violated this promise by rabbit fur earmuffs, rabbit-fur ponchos and other fur items in their 2011 holiday fashion line.

Animals raised for fur live in cramped wire cages their entire lives. They are typically killed via cheap methods such as suffocation, neck-breaking, poisoning or anal/vaginal electrocution. In light of this cruelty, many celebrities, models and activists, including Michelle Obama, Ellen Degeneres and Lady Gaga refuse to wear fur.

As proven by fur-free high-fashion clothing lines, it is possible for clothing to be fashionable and functional without causing animals to suffer and be killed. Please boycott BCBG while they continue to sell fur and sign the petition to convince CEO Max Azria to permanently remove fur from the brand's collections.
