Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents your Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across.
Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.
This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:

It's a security alarm system that you prob ably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar rapist won't stick around... After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there ..... This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

P.S. I am sending this to everyone I know because I think it is fantastic. Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone. My Mom has suggested to my Dad that he carry his Car keys with him in case he falls outside and she doesn't hear him. He can activate the car alarm and then she'll know there's a problem. Please pass this on even IF you've read it before. It's a reminder.

Ok, I just had to share this with anyone that'd listen.  I know I go on sometimes about being so lucky and how annoying that can be sometimes.  I'm the first to agree with that, believe me.  I just had to share this, however.

Those of you that know me personally probably know that I've been going on about wanting this type of altar that I saw on the movie Blade (yeah, cheesy I know).  It would just fit so perfectly in my room (any room) since it goes up vertically, compared to the banged up coffee table that I recycled as an altar 6 years ago.  And so much more descreet with the closing doors.  Everyone that I let in my house knows about me but, some still tend to stare openly when they walk by.  I know that it's actually a Buddhist Altar, but it's still perfect for my needs.

This is something that I've been wanting for over a year now.  I was planning on waiting until we get back to the states and have something similar built for me by a friend since an actual Buddhist altar is so expensive here in Japan.

OK, here's where it gets good.  Something else those of you that know me personally also know that I volunteer at both the local animal shelter and non-profit consignment store.  Yesterday while I was working at the store a good friend of mine came in and just gave me the altar I'd been wanting for over a year now!  It's not just what I was wanting, it so far exceeded what I was wanting it's crazy.  This altar is one of the most ornately beautiful home shrine I've ever seen!  If I were to go buy this thing new at the store it'd cost me at between $550.00 and $600.00.

I knew this person was sweet and generous because he'd given me a box full of books once before.  He would come into the store looking for antiques to decorate his new house with and we'd talked.  I knew that he was a Buddhist and while talking to him about that he noticed my necklace and told me that he used to be a Wiccan and that's when he offered me his old books.  This however was... Wild.  What he told me was that he had decided to "upgrade" his home altar and couldn't stand the thought of selling his old one on the base "yard sale” for fear that it'd be used by someone as a "trinket holder".

I'll have to get new batteries for my camera and post pics as soon as I can.  You won’t believe how beautiful this thing is: black lacquer, ornate scrolling, gold leaf background.  I can't wait to show it off.
