PLEASE HELP US!!!

Once again I am begging for help.

I can no longer afford to care for the animals I have left in the rescue. My husband lost his job and bailed and since July I have tried to keep things running here without him. He left July 23. I just cant do any more. This month I cannot pay the mortgage, again, or our electric bill. The foreclosure notices are coming now. If we don't have electricity, we have no heat. I don't have the money, I just don't have it. All of my money has gone to feed my animals and I am now faced with the proposition of placing them in shelters or trying to once again find rescues who will take them. I have been trying to do this for months, begging to place them, before things got to this point. Well, now I am at the point where they must have a place to go, weather it's a shelter here in this high kill state or rescues here or out of state. After Thursday this week, we have no heat and no electricity. And its cold here now. I have begged for months for help for them, knowing this day was coming and have gotten little to no response. The day is here, what do I do? I only have one other option and unless I absolutely have no other choice, I will not put them to sleep. But if I have to, I will. I will not let them freeze or starve. I will not take them to any of the shelters here and just abandon them, I would rather put them to sleep, it's more humane. So I am begging for help, even if you can take just one, it's one less I will have to try to save.

If you cannot help me, please, please pass this on and do not judge me. I have done the very best I can for these animals. I have lost my home, my husband and something so dear to my heart, my rescue. I have been called a hoarder, and judged harshly for being unable to do it alone. I have worked for 8 years rescuing the animals in the high kill shelters here. Some of them have been with me since Forever Homes inception, and some came the week before my husband left me. If I could change what has happened, I would. I cannot. I have no home and no hope for me, but they have a chance if I can find rescuers to take them. They deserve so much more than this. If I had known when I started this all those years ago, that this was going to happen, I would have never started to rescue animals. I would never have put them in this dangerous position. I put them here. I did this and now I have to try to help them out of this. I would rather die as to have something happen to them. Once they are safe, I will deal with me. Please dont respond if you are going to judge me, believe me, I have had a lot of things said to me, about me, by people who have never met me, and have never walked a day in my shoes. I need help for my animals, not criticisim. So, please pass this on, if you cannot help and if you can,
please email me at hissking@.... They are turning the electric off on Thursday and I have no choice but to let them.
I have cats and 3 dogs that need placement. Some seniors, some kittens, and 1 puppy. I have pics of most of them, if you think you can help, I will be glad to send them on to you. I am going to be closing the web site out this next week at Petfinder, but until then, many of them are there too. That is meowinc.petfinder.org
PLEASE HELP US!!! Thank you for all the years of help you all have already given.

Sincerely,
Mary King

The transport is still missigng, as of now I know at least one dog is dead, some were sick. Transporter is Tanya Kuny Wolverton Mountain Transport. She apparently had a fall out with the rescue coordinator after it was discovered that one was dead. There are two private transports from Kill shelters as well as 10 + going to rescue.

She has address in Clinton, AK and Culpepper, VA

Driving Black Dodge Ram extended cab pick up pulling white horse trailer with Arkansas plates.

These dogs are in SERIOUS danger. We are attempting to involve the police but it takes time.

Any help appreciated

DESPERATE PLEA ..... THANKS

PLEASE CROSSPOST! WE NEED TO HELP STAR!

I am writing on behalf of STAR, our very small rescue group in Morehead (Rowan County) KY.

The STAR ladies are out of options without our help. They are beyond full, beyond broke and almost beyond hope.

Right now, Julia has 15 dogs at her house. She is to the point of collapse with trying to foster 6 puppies and 9 dogs and also work a full time job.

They have huge vet bills (just about $1000 for Franklin and TW alone) and nowhere to turn to collect money, find rescues, etc.

Can we all jump in and do what we can by seeking donations, crossposting and helping in any way possible? We are a huge group with a lot of connections and, while times are tough, the last thing we can afford to do is leave STAR out there to struggle on their own!

I'm donating today! Please, won't you join me?

STAR is a 501c3 and donations are tax deductible. Please link to their site to make a donation through PayPal at:

http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY251.html

Or donations can be mailed to:

NEED MONEY/RESCUE FOR THESE SWEET DOGS!

ABOUT FRANKLIN

The vet believes Franklin has been severely abused. He has been beaten and shot. He is out of the pound and getting treatment.

This guy was found as a stray, and looks rather "beat up". He is blind in one eye, has a golf ball knot on his back and is skinned up on his legs. He gets along fine with the other dogs in his pen and is good with visitors at the Pound. We hope to find this fella a home with love and care for his later years.

Update 10/13, when I stopped by the pound after hours today, I noticed Franklin 's rear leg is extremely swollen, so there is obviously a problem and he needs to see a vet asap.

Need $400 by November 19th

ABOUT TW

Update 8.25.08: Still alive as the dog warden loves this boy.

9/18/08 TW still has no home/rescue, but we went ahead and had him neutered. However it was found he is HW positive. The vet said he is only 2 years old, so we are going ahead with the $500 treatment. We just pray donations will come in and a home is found. He is a sweet and patient boy that waited all summer for his big chance. We cannot let him down because of heartworm.
NEED $500 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

ABOUT SCARLETT AND ANGEL

Scarlett and Angel were rescued from the Kinney house. Angel, in the attached picture, is with Julia as is Scarlett. They need rescue! PLEASE HELP!

PERMISSION TO CROSSPOST - PLEASE!!!!

From: Robin McClelland
I'm the volunteer rescue coordinator for the recently accessed Harrison County Dog Pound, located in Cadiz, OH.  We have had a closed, locked dog pound since last Thursday, however nobody has heard from the Warden since Wednesday morning early.  The foster mom for our newly created rescue had been asked to man the pound for an hour Wednesday morning while the Warden attended a meeting with Commissioners.  She ended up staying all day, as the Warden did not return at all.  Late Wednesday, I left a message on the pound answering machine when I was greeted by a disturbing message, the pound had been closed until Wednesday, October 22.  No provisions for the care of the dogs had been provided, no notice to the rescue or the foster mom.  Had we not found out by accident, dogs would have simply starved to death.  A commissioner told me that he was told the Warden needed a week off for "medical", and that the foster mom would care for the animals, however the foster mom was not asked and has not heard from him to date.  We have a rural Appalachia pound, with only 10 pens under roof, no exterior walls.  We had only 19 bucks and some change in our little virtual rescue (yahoo group harrisoncp) that night.  Also worth mentioning is according to Commissioner Host, no such meeting transpired Wednesday.

We have managed to pull dogs as needed, as the foster mom has a key to the gate and access to the dogs.  We do not have access to the answering machine as the office itself is locked, hence my telephone number on the petfinder listings, which is 740-945-1379.

We are essentially in an emergency situation here and need to move dogs out, thus my home number is listed now in the petfinder listings as well as on the homepage.  Anyone that can help us, can call me night or day.  We are fearful if we don't get the dogs moved, we will have one very "black Thursday" here in Harrison County with dogs put down.

Please pass this on to anyone you know can help us.  We welcome sponsors for pull fees, vetting (rabies and health certificates required for travel), transport, boarding and the like by either paypal (link is on the site, but it is harrisondogpound@verizon.net (@verizon.net) which comes to me here in Harrison County, Ohio or by snail mail to:  Robin McClelland, P.O. Box 163, Scio, OH  43988.  We are in the dark here, and dogs need our help.

We need to move dogs Monday (10/20) and
Tuesday (10/21)!

Please take a look at these dogs:

Hi Sylva,

Hoping you might direct me to someone who can help this boxer mix.  He is a unneutered adult male that, they say, weighs 30 lbs.  It is obvious he has been on his own for a while.  He is underweight and we just had a vet see him.  He has a treatable case of mange.  He also has bloody diarrhea that the vet says is diet related.  I took chicken and rice to the shelter and they have been feeding him that for 2 days.  The vet prescribed medication for the mange.  He was a stray that was pooping wood pieces when he first came in.  He has a tear in his left ear.  This poor guy has been through it.  When I walk him he is great.  When I sit on the park bench he jumps in my lap and kisses my face.

The AC officer said he was considering putting him down.  Although he is not suffering in any way, the AC officer said there is no reason to prolong the inevitable.  With no interest in him at this time, he feel the condition of his coat will keep anyone from adopting him.

If you can help me in any way with leads, I would appreciate it.  I  know we can't save them all.  I just need to know I did everything I could for this deserving dog.

Thanks, Vicki

thank you, he is a unneutered male, about 30 pounds, very sweet, has a treatable case of mange according to the vet who saw him WED.  He also has diarrhea at this time.  He is being given a chicken and rice diet as the vet felt this was diet related.  She did not do any testing.  She just saw him at the shelter.

PLEASE CROSS POST!!!!!

Do not adopt to

Cindy Fisher or Martha Fisher

Granby, CT

G

ood Dog Rescue is a “cradle to grave” rescue group and our

adoption contract requires adopters to return their dogs to us if,

for any reason, they cannot keep them. In September 08, Cindy Fisher

notified us that she wanted to return Lexie because she had grown into

a vicious dog.

But it wasn’t easy to get Lexie back. First of all, it was difficult to

discover her location. Cindy had boarded Lexie at an unknown location

and made conditions on her return, attempting to control the kind of

foster home where we would put Lexie (no children, no other pets).

Finally, we were advised that Lexie was being warehoused in isolation

in the quarantine, dangerous dog section of the county law

enforcement agency. One of our CT volunteers rushed to get Lexie and

found her cowering in a small cage, head wrapped in a giant

Elizabethan collar, with a big stitched-up wound in the side of her

muzzle from an attack by the adopter’s other dog.

On Saturday, Sept 20 Lexie arrived back in TN and went straight to one

of our volunteer foster moms, Sharon W, who works wonders with

dispirited dogs; Lexie couldn’t be in better hands. Sharon reports

there’s not a vicious bone in Lexie’s body, but she is indeed a very

scared young dog with little trust in humans. She is slowly revealing

clues to us about the months she spent with Cindy Fisher. The

least little noise, she hits the ground. She goes nuts if anyone

touches her collar. She’s terrified of the garden hose. She eats

and drinks lying down, typical behavior for breeder dogs and

others that are kept in confined quarters, in other words

CRATED ALL THE TIME!

Lexie was a happy, playful pup and full of potential when we

sent her to Cindy Fisher last March. This pup couldn’t have had

a better heritage, her mother was a purebred golden retriever

and father was a purebred GSD. I know for a fact she had the

best possible start in life because she spent her first months at

my house. But Lexie’s experiences over the past 6 months have

left her very afraid. Even so, we have great hope for Lexie.

Sadly, she’ll never be 100%, but we believe that she still has

the potential for a meaningful life with an understanding

forever family. But first she’ll need several months at Sharon’s

house to relearn trust and regain some self-confidence.

This is a plea to all rescue groups

DO NOT ADOPT to Cindy

Fisher or her sister Martha Fisher in Granby, CT.

From: pawsativebf@...

I'm reaching out to you all to help get names and email addresses to as many animal rescue groups, humane societies, veterinarians, groomers, and pet supply stores, as possible.
With the exception of Jay and Kathleen S, we do not have ANY people on the ground to get fliers out to the area businesses Kasey is traveling or may be headed.
Kasey's owner Dominic, and Karin Goin, are working with the tracking dogs to follow Kasey's scent trail.  That's all we have as far as bodies on the ground.
WE NEED MORE HELP!!!!
Once all of the email addresses are compiled, I will work on getting a search party/flier campaign together and am working on getting a go-to person to be there on site to hand out maps and fliers and coordinate sending teams into different areas to get the word out.  If we can get some folks out this afternoon and possibly set up another search party/flier blitz tomorrow, we may be ahead of the game and will get more people aware and watching out for Kasey.  Hopefully, these search parties will not be needed but a plan needs to be put together now.
Please send me whatever info you can find for these groups.

THANKS!!!

Thanks Teresa, it's always good to have a recap of ideas.  Michael McCann was invaluable to us with his lost dog knowledge when he came down to help with Vivi's search.  Those on site have been posting up fliers and signs but have been warned by the Code Enforcement agency that we are breaking the law in doing so.  So, we can only get the word out by utilizing the news media, radio, and emailing/faxing Kasey's flier to every business in the areas she's roaming.  We need all the help we can get in accomplishing this task, so if anyone is able to help spread the word for little Kasey, it would be GREATLY appreciated.  She's only a puppy.
I know we had much success with finding Ticket due to a radio personality.  If anyone can try to work that angle, I think it would be a home-run for Kasey.
We are posting Kasey updates on the Pharaoh Hound forum boards of the Dog Hobbyist site
http://forums.doghobbyist.com/forum.php?catid=131
We are also posting on that site what has been done so far, so we do not duplicate efforts.
Karin Chockley-Goin and her tracking dogs have been doing a great job and I'm praying they help to bring Kasey to her daddy safe and soon.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
Please keep the prayers and positive thoughts for Kasey's safe return coming.

Hi,

One of the seminars I attended while at Greyhounds Reach the Beach in Dewey Beach, DE last weekend was given by Michael McCann who started the greyhound amber alert system on greytalk.  I'm sure the area is plastered with flyers.  That was his number one suggestion.  He even suggested having flyers made AHEAD OF TIME in case your dog ever becomes lost!  And he said to make sure the number on the flyer would be answered 24/7.  Keep the flyers simple and put them EVERYWHERE.  He described the three ways of capture:  1) finesse capture where the animal is lured to a submissive human typically with food; 2)  trapping with a live trap that was large enough for the dog to easily go into before tripping the door; and 3)  darting (which he almost NEVER recommends) but only with a dart that has a radio tracker so the dog can be located once it is down.  He has known of successful darting captures, but really thinks they are way too dangerous and difficult to do.

He also talked about tracking dogs--they can show you where the dog has been, but can't really tell you if the dog is still alive or where it is now.  He talked of several dogs who were missing for several months before being captured.  They are resourceful at finding food and water and generally become nocturnal.  He said they often hide under houses, in sheds, under boats.  They go into feral mode quickly and will generally try NOT to be seen.

I know from our collective Vivi/Ticket experience that we all know these things.  I just thought I'd share them as they might trigger some thought that would help.  Really the most important thing according to Mr. McCann was to plaster the area in an ever widening circle with flyers.  And have that number answered 24/7.  And don't hesitate to use the live trap once the dog has established itself within a territory.  The longer the dog is loose the less likely a finesse capture will be.

I'm thinking of Kasey and hoping she is reuinited with her family soon.

Teresa

Thanks for everyone's help.  Unfortunately, Kasey is still missing.  News channels have picked up the story.  Here's the latest update from tonight, Karin Goin drove in from TX during the night.

***Kacey was last spotted at 2:30 PM today at the intersection of Ashmont & Popular. The reported sighting was a result of the 5:00 PM televised newscast. This sighting was confirmed by the tracking dogs at 6:00 PM. They will be resuming the search there tomorrow morning. The location is a residential/neighborhood area. ***
Fingers crossed they are able to find her tomorrow.  from what I'm told, kasey is about 9 miles away from where she went missing on Saturday morning.  Kasey has crossed some major roadways so she definitely has an angel watching over her.  Please keep up the prayers and good thoughts.
Again, THANKS!

Animals are being buried alive in Brownfield, TX Animal Shelter

Brownfield, TX – Reports have surfaced from a former employee at the Brownfield, TX animal shelter of extreme incidents of animal cruelty including animals being placed in plastic bags and buried alive, hours after euthanasia drugs were administered.  These initial reports of abuse were said to have taken place at the Slaton, TX animal shelter.  While there have been reports of abuse in this shelter a well, we want to be clear that, the content of this press release focuses on the Brownfield shelter.

Former Brownfield animal shelter employee Lisa Gerbach, was an employee of the shelter from March 3rd until April 16th and resigned after her reports and complaints of animal abuse were ignored by city officials including the Mayor, the chief of police who oversees shelter operations and her supervisor at the shelter.

Ms. Gerbach paints a gruesome picture of the abuses that were occurring on a daily basis during her brief tenure as an employee of the shelter.  She kept detailed documentation of these cases of abuse.  Most acts, were committed by a former employee named “Zeek” who was observed:

  • Leaving animals in metal cages stained with dried blood and feces in high 80 degree temperatures with no food or water for days at a time.
  • Punching dogs during routine animal seizures claiming that “the dog didn’t want to go into the cage”.
  • Choking cats with animal catch poles stating that “, "it's easier to choke them out with the catchpole and it doesn't take as long." He was referring to the time it takes for an animal to die using proper doses of sodium pentobarbital for euthanasia.
  • Placing euthanized animals in black bags while they are still breathing and taking them to the firing range to be put on the dead animal trailer while they are still breathing
  • Administering less than the required doses of “Fatal Plus” causing animals to take as long as 2 hour before their death.

When Ms. Gerbach confronted Zeek about not administering the proper doses he replied “that was what Lieutenant said because of the cost of it”.  In a quote from Ms. Gerbach when reporting to police chief Tony Serbantez of animals being buried alive “I have no doubt that they are covered in the trash hole at the landfill while they're still breathing.

After many ignored reports to the chief and her supervisor, Esequiel Sepeda, Ms. Gerbach resigned.   Chief Serbantanz tries to paint the picture of a possible disgruntled employee. Others in the community see Ms. Gerbach as a compassionate caring whistle blower for the welfare of animals. Dawn Bechtold, president of US Animal Protection states, “Lisa deserves a lot of credit for bringing these horrible acts of animal cruelty to light by reporting it to the press.  Any act of cruelty by a human against an animal is cause for concern but when it comes from those who are paid by taxpayers to protect and humanely care for these animals, there is a serious problem”.   While we are happy to report that “Zeek” resigned from his position at the shelter, we at US Animal Protection would like to see criminal charges filed against this former employee and all superiors who ignored the pleas of Lisa Gerbach.  You can see a full copy of Ms. Gerbach' s reports at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AnimalShelterReform/message/37705. Read this.  It's probably worse at Slaton than you know.  I went to the Cheif of Police (my boss) the Mayor, the City Manager, and then the front page of the AJ.  Still didn't help anything.

3/29/08: Sat evening
-I went to the shelter after (a person) came to my house to ask why 2 med. sized dogs were in a small cage by the gate w/no food or water. She saw it at noon time.  Someone from Lubb was also meeting me there to view dog for adoption.  The 2 dogs were in a dog trap w/no access to food/water.  I figured Zeek didn't have time to put them anywhere and would take care of it as soon as he came in Sun. morning.  I didn't have a catch pole since I was not on-duty and these were not friendly dogs.
-most cages not hosed out at all and had caked feces from day before.  I knew this b/c I had moved one dog out of a cage and it was empty a day and a half and never hosed out, so it wasn't just new feces.
-no food/water for a cat in a small cat trap laying on the ground when it could have been moved to an actual cage and given a food/water dish.
-other 4 cats in cat cages without food or water.

3/30/08: Sun afternoon
-I went to shelter (again on volunteer time) to show another person a dog to adopt.  The 2 med. sized dogs were still in the dog trap by the front gate w/out food or water or anywhere to use the bathroom.  It was in the 80's outside.  The trapped cat was still in the cat trap on the ground with no food or water.  Still no food or water in the cat cages.  I fed and watered them yesterday, but they were bone dry today so I know it wasn't done today.  I tried to remove the cat from the trap into a cage but I coultn't without a catch pole and it was feral.  I ended up being able to slide a dish into the trap but it still tried to attack me.  The dog cages were in the same condition but worse than yesterday.  The empty dirty cage was on day 3.  I called the Police Dept to see if Zeek called in sick and if I needed to get on the clock.  They said he came in at 9:00 am.  I pulled the extremely heavy metal dog trap out of the sun and into the shade.  I put 2 bowls of food in there and a large bowl of water.  They drank like they were desperate.  The people that came to adopt a dog (from Lubb) looked horrified at the conditions and said they would pass.  I was very embarrassed.  One dog was out of it's cage b/c of the rotting kennels and attacked Hercules (the guard dog).  Hercules had blood all on the side of his face.  I didn't have a catch pole and hoped this dog wasn't viscious.  I finally caught him and secured him in a pen.

Talked to Chief today about euthanization taking a very long time, cats not being cared for and putting euthanized animals in black bags while they are still breathing and taking them to the firing range to be put on the dead animal trailer while they are still breathing.  I have no doubt that they are covered in the trash hole at the landfill while they're still breathing.  I called the vet's office for advice and was told to put injection in large muscle instead of under the arm.  We did this and with a longer needle.  It still took over 2 hours for them to die.  Some flopped around for 20 minutes or so, some longer, then they would dream and act like they were running.  Gradually they would stop moving but their bellies still moved up and down like normal.  I refused to put them in a bag to get them to the truck if they were breathing and told Zeek if he wanted to, he'd have to do it himself b/c it was inhumane.  He did it himself.  The first time I helped with putting them down, they all went in bags breathing right away.
-Zeek kicked 1 black dog in the head pretty hard with his steel-toed boot to see if it was alive still.  It was.  He jumped straight up out of his sleep.  We had done him first, 2 hours earlier.
-I went to get the Fatal-Plus for the cats while he got one in the catch pole for me to give the shot to.  He then told me, "I usually just choke these out."  I said, "what do you mean?" He said, "it's easier to choke them out with the catch pole and it doesn't take as long." I told him we weren't going to be doing that.  I hurried with the needle b/c the gray tabby he had was making horrible breathing noises from lack of oxygen.
-several of the dogs I refusede to bag were piled up on the tailgate with their bellies still moving.  One brown one not in a bag was breathing as Zeek dumped him onto the dead animal trailer.  Then we left for the landfill and they were thrown into the hole and the guy covered them up.
-Zeek told me he caught the cat from the trap on Fri and the 2 dogs on Fri.  If I hadn't gone up there on my time off they would have been there 3 days w/out food/water.

-I briefly told  Chief I need to schedule a time to talk to him.  He was busy (he had court).
-Zeek said he put dogs in trap b/c the pens were full.  Several only had 1 dog in them and can be doubled or tripled up.

-Talked to Chief about choking the cats out and all that happened on Monday.  I told him about it being in the state statutes that they can't be disposed of if they have vital signs.  Told him it still took too long-2 hours and that I read on the Internet that if sodium pentobarbital is administered in the muscle it should be in a dose 3 to 4 times the dose as intraveneous.  Told him about it being in the statutes that an animal shelter should not go w/out food/water for over 12 hours, etc.  Told him that Zeek says we can't feed an animal we pick up until the next day, etc.  I told him I couldn't be a part of anything unethical, or
illegal, or immoral.
-That dog I had to catch who attacked Hercules WAS viscious and was there to be put down for killing goats.  Zeek told me to be careful w/it when I began euthanizing it.  I told him I already caught it by hand and carried it back to the cage the day before.

-Zeek and I took the dead animal trailer to town (after emptying it) and he hosed it off at the car wash leaving a chunk of Great Pyrenese fur and tissue (and some blood) in the drain.  He didn't even hose down the area on the ground before leaving.  Nasty, and not good for the next person coming through.  There is a hose at the firing range where we keep the trailer.
-(before dropping the trailer off we answered a call for animal at large), we spotted the white mother pit-bull that always gets out.  I went on foot to the front of a property to try to herd it towards Zeek who was in the alley.  Zeek got it with a lure of food and had it at the back of the truck when I made the corner around the house.  I saw him look around to see if anyone was looking and punch the dog because it was not wanting to go into the truck cage.  He doesn't know I saw him.  I said, "was she giving you trouble?" He said, "she didn't want to go in."

Euthanizations went better b/c I doubled the dosage for the weight of each dog.  1 dog went down in about 10 minutes.  The others in around 20.  Then on the last dog Zeek told me that Lieut Sillers told him that we can't use any more Fatal-Plus than it said on the directions.  I told him the directions are for intraveneous injections and if we don't it's going to be 2 hours before they die.  He told me that that was what Lieut said b/c of the cost of it.  I told Zeek if that was the way it was going to be I wouldn't be working here.  I gave less to the last dog b/c of what Zeek told me to do.  He wouldn't die.  We waited and waited and Zeek said we should give him more.  I gave 3 ml more.  He still wouldn't die.  Zeek said we should just go out there to the range and put a bullet in him if it was going to take that long.  We left.  It died by the time we got to the trailer.  It might actually be more humane to shoot them than the way it happens up here.  State statutes only allow for euthanization to be Sodium Pentobarbital in the vein, muscle or body cavity, or gassing them, though.

-Zeek knew I could only work 1 hour tonight because he wanted me to stay extra and help him with a skunk on Mon.  I wrote him a note last night in the truck saying there wasn't enough dog food to feed them the next day.  When I came in at 5:15 pm I asked Zeek if he got dog food.  He said no.  He told me to find Lieut Sillers to ask him for the WalMart card so I could buy some.  That was going to take longer than an hour (they're strict about me not going over my allowed p/t hours) and I was mildly irritated that I saw him driving around a lot today and he certainly had time to take care of getting 150 lbs of dog food during his 8 hour shift.  But it was fine and I was going to get it done.  I looked around for Lieut and never found him.  Finally I discovered he was gone.  I asked Zeek if had any suggestions.  (He and I were in the dispatch room in front of Mary the 911 dispatcher).  He said, "Just don't feed them today and go clean out the cages." I told him, "they've got to eat."  He said, "No they don't.  They can eat tomorrow."  (I feed them so that means waiting until tomorrow evening).  I kept saying they had to eat and he kept saying no they didn't.  Finally I just told the dispatcher to clock me out and I left.  I left my police radio, pepper spray and a note in Chief's door at his house telling him I quit and that I'd like him to call me so I could tell him why.  I can't work with someone who shouldn't even be allowed to be around animals much less in charge of them.  We have puppies (about 2 months) who really should be eating more than 1 time a day and they didn't get to eat at all today
