I received an urgent request for help which I forward to all of you: whatever you can do will be useful!

"My Dear Sister Marie,

Thank you for your immediate response to my letter of updating the terrible news about the nightmare taking place in our state. The whole state has been battered and shattered by floods like never before 100 years. Scores of people were dead. Millions of people rendered homeless. Hundreds of houses have been washed away with the materials in lives old people have been carried out to the safe places.

The total loss due to floods is Rs 12 thousand 225 Crores. The real magnitude of deaths and destructions would become clear once the water recede completely.

People have been marooned for days. Fields have been flooded houses destroyed and roads washed away. It is a calamity of gigantic proportion. This is the saddest situation which needs every human beings attention. This attention should be immediate.

This has also greatly affected two churches which have been submerged the place is Polavaram. The people also are scattered. After the waters recede we need to rehabilitate their houses, we need to reconstruct their houses, providing material.

The food materials like Rice, Paddy, Utensils, Chairs, and Clothes etc, were washed away. Leaving no traces of their belongings, the immediate needs are providing the following.

Relief: food – Rice, Vegetables, Milk, Five wood, Clothes, Sarees, Shirts, Pants, Dothies, Towels, Bed Sheets and Mats to sleep.

Housing: temporary shelters, materials for houses, like roofing, beams, bamboos, leaves for covering even this is temporary, until the government plans to build concrete housing.

Children: Biscuits, Milk or Milk Power, Warm Clothes, Dresses.

Medicines: first Aid, medicines for communicable diseases.

Transportation: carrying the flood victim’s old people, nourishing mother’s sick people and children by means of buses or vans or whatever the means is available.

The started collecting some donations in cash, materials like clothes, bed sheets, used dresses, rice, But this will be very minimum. There are many volunteer agencies already started their operations victims are slowly recovering, but not knowing how long they are going to take to settle normally.

Even we have to take care of our children, widows and family. Because, the sudden floods caused the survival very expensive for instance, the Onions have cost at present Rs 30/- a Kg, which used to be Rs 2-50 considering this, calculate that every commodity has gone up by four or five times. It will roughly 2-3 months for the prices of the commodities to come down.  God is great yet, not very many lives have been taken when Tsunami took place 2 lakhs of people died. But this is too much.

Please keep praying and invite your friends and like minded people to contribute some help so that we can proceed to the affected areas and distribute the help. Which I sent the pictures of floods new and message is also true.

Thank you for your interest shown to the victims. God bless you in your participation. Looking forward for your prayer and help.

Thanking you
Your Loving Brother
