Please spread the word as quickly as you can to help save these horses.
The land that these horses call home, is being sold and if the money is not raised so the Refuge can buy the land, many of the horses will perish due to being too ill or too traumatised to travel and settle.
These horses cannot be moved to another sanctuary, they have tried to re-home/foster out some of the horses in the past, but their health deteriorated dramatically and they had to be returned.
These horses need this land, they feel safe and have experienced true human kindness, probably for the first time in their lives, Sara looks after these horses with so much dedication and passion, please don't let them down.
I know that money is tight for most people at the moment, but if everyone could spare just £1, these horses can be saved. No amount is too small.
Some people may be embarrassed to only donate £1, or think that it can't possibly make a difference, so they won't do it, please do not feel like this, if less than 3% of this Care2 community donated just £1, they would reach their target. Please don't be a part of the 97% that think someone else will do it.
If you can't afford to send money, but love music, you can donate by downloading any Moon Williams track via The Horse Refuge site, the iTunes link can be found at the bottom of the Donate Page. It must be downloaded via the site.
If you can't afford that, then please pass this on to as many people you know, you could still save these lives by your efforts and support.
Please help them continue to carry out their good work.
My mum has personally visited this sanctuary and there is a video in the News tab from the BBC titled 'Horses for Slaughter', just in case anyone is dubious of this pleas authenticity.
Please click the photo to be taken to the site.
Update - 29th April 2010
My mum visited Sara at the Horse Refuge today, Sara told her that she is still fighting, she told my mum that these horses will be killed 'over her dead body' and my mum said that she really meant it.
Sara desperately needs financial help, the media will be visiting over the next few days, so they still have a chance to get closer to their target, but they have so far to go and they need your help too.
Update - 2nd May 2010
The date has now passed and the target was not reached so Sara has been unable to buy the land.... yet!
The landlord will now have to serve an eviction notice on Sara, this will have to go through the courts and could take a while.
This is now more desperate than ever, please continue to spread the word so Sara has a chance to reach the target before her and her horses are forced off of the property.
Update - 7th May 2010
Today Sara spoke on a very popular Radio Station, LBC 97.3FM regarding her appeal, she was accompanied by her Patron, Jenny Seacrest and Nicholas Ball. A £5,000 donation was given which is fantastic, all is not lost, please continue to give your support and forward her plea.
I didn't realise but one of her Patrons is Carla Lane, who wrote the very popular TV comedies, Bread, The Liver Birds, Butterflies and many others.
Update 16th July
An evition notice has been served and they have not been able to raise enough funds, so it does look like some horses will have to be put to sleep. Sara is still hoping for a miracle, she has not given up!
I have heard that the Daily Mail Newspaper is going to visit her and write a story on Big Bertha, who is a rather large horse standing at over 20hh and of course, they will mention her plight.
Please forward this plea, these horses can survive if we help Sara spread the word. Thanks.
Update 1st August
Unfortunately, Sara has been given the date of 12th August to file her paperwork with the courts, she will appeal for longer but the maximum is 4 weeks.
She fears that some of the horses are just too ill, old or will be too frightened to move and adjust, so they will have to be slaughtered. There is hope for some of the others, but she still needs donations so she can move them to a new location, please help! It doesn't matter how small, she is grateful for any help. Thank you.
Update 5th August
Katie Price heard of The Horse Refuge's plea and due to her love of horses, she went to visit Sara to meet the horses and try to drum up support.
She complimented Sara on how well all of the horses looked and donated some items. She hopes that the coverage will help to encourage people to donate, so these horses would not have to perish.
Update 27th August
I visited Sara at the Horse Refuge yesterday, it was the first time I had ever met or spoken to her, she is a really lovely lady with so much care and passion for all of these horses and animals which she has saved over the years.
She showed me around, some of her horses are blind, I saw Tilly Trotter (the horse pictured above), she looks fantastic now, she has a glossy coat and is full of life.
I was in tears when she showed me the horses who would have to be put to sleep if she has to move, they looked so happy and have no idea of their fate.
Sara was telling me about all of her horses, which would have been denied life if she hadn't have taken them in and nursed them to health, their stories are so sad.
Her beloved Duke lost his life, he is the horse pictured on my billboard on my profile, who shot to fame in the Daily Mail newspaper a few years ago. Sara couldnt talk about him, it is still too painful, she cannot believe he has gone. RIP Duke. x
She actually had an offer to buy the land, which she found out yesterday was a hoax, Sara was so upset, as she couldn't understand what she had done to deserve that, things are so desperate that she had no choice but to pin her hopes on it and now she is devistated, especially as she is on court today to be given her eviction date.
She still needs all the help she can get, they can't evict her if she is able to buy the land. I gave her another donation which made her cry, but I cannot give anything near what she needs, but thousands of people together could.
Please spread this plea around, these horses cannot survive without your help.
Just to let you know about the horse in the above picture,
This horse was left tied to Sara's gate late at night, she was in a terrible state, I won't go into detail as some people don't like it, although the picture says enough. Sara took her into the front room of her house, put her on two intravenous drips, as she was too frail to eat or drink and stayed by her side for days.
Sara has named her Tilly Trotter, she is now out in the stables, around the other horses and has made a full recovery.
You can see what Tilly now looks like on the following Facebook link along with many more of the horses Sara has saved -
"No horse is turned away. These magnificent creatures bear terrible physical and mental scars and therefore cannot be re-homed. These are the horses that no one wants. However, with time and patience they learn to trust again and live a wonderful happy life."
"Whatever it takes, Sara will do it for her horses. Sne will sleep next to an ailing animal to comfort them through a dark night. She will stay out in the snow with a charge which cannot be moved."

Please spread the word and help Sara continue to help horses like this.
