We all share this weird electronic life now, all of us that is who spend time on the internet especially at social sites such as Care2. We can post messages as fast as we can think them and still faster than we can think about them. Any issue can and will have people who disagree extremely. So long as nothing personally hurtful is said, let there be debate. Let there be heat.

The problem comes when we think ourselves so clever, and our intent to communicate and to share our ideas is superseded by our desire to be right, to win, or to defeat someone. Having a dark sense of humor probably doesn't help. Then the keys are pounded furiously; paragraphs flow forth. We cleverly rationalize that we do not intend the personal hurt, but we may intend that our words be taken personally. We may even have grown accustomed to firing a few sly volleys on a daily basis with no sense of remorse, but the least slur to our own character raises our hackles.

Ideological extremism is what is wrong with politics, religion, and most other human occupations. It is also wrong when it twists what is supposed to be a gathering of minds, a sharing of ideas, a connecting with others into a rhetorical shouting match. People who behave this way might not yet be trolls. But, they aren't too far from it. When the debate of ideas becomes a debate of "Why I am Right and Why You Are Stupid," then one be dangerously close to the border of Trollheim.

To anyone who has been hurt or offended by words I have posted, then I am sorry. Social Networking is what this phenomena is called. Even if we disagree, we should try harder...I should try harder...to resist the cheap shot. Life is so damn short. The time passes and is gone forever. If we're, you, me, everyone else here, is not having fun, then we are wasting our time. Though I hate misusing the word, energy, let me just suggest in the vernacular, "Nothing good ever came of bad energy." If we, as a community are spending more time putting each other down, if I'm pissing people off, and they are returning the favor, no matter what petitions we sign, actions we take, information we gain...nothing good will come of any of it if so many of us are feeling angry and irritable and mean.

Meanness never accomplished anything except meanness.

I need to get things done in the real world. And, I need to learn to be kinder and more patient in real life and here in the Matrix. Seek the positive because the negative is always looking for you.

Thanks everyone! I hope the New Year brings change that we don't have to believe in because it is real.

Take care,
