There are many places on the internet to find out more about the plight of the Orangutan.
Please join Michela M.'s group - ORANGUTANS: MEN OF THE FOREST She is one of the hardest workers I know of that is trying to save the ORANGUTANS from Extinction!!!
The Upper Avatar Forest was discovered by Ancient Forest Alliance Activists, Dec. 2009. It is the home of the largest, strangest shaped Red Cedars in Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Also there are rare large Douglas-fir. Avatar has the potential to be the 'Cathedral Grove of Port Renfrew', because of the ease of accessibility and giant trees. However most of the Avatar Grove is currently under threat of logging and road development. The B. C. Govt. states that it is not interested in protecting the Grove. Support to save this Ancient Forest is growing, and as of recently the B. C. Govt. is trying to come up with a plan to save all the ancient forests! Also Flores Island, North of Tofino, Vancouver Island and Old Growth Forest in Upper Walbran Valley and the Mossy Maple Forest near Cowichan Lake, and Old Growth Forests of Echo Lakes - globally significant Bald Eagle habitat, are concerns of The Ancient Forest Alliance. Petitions for the above at http://www.ancientforestpetition.com Photos of other forests mentioned above and more can be seen at http://www.AncientForestAlliance.org.
Album:Save The Great Bear Rainforest
The Great Bear Rainforest one of Canada's last primevial tropical rainforests is under threat of Endbridge
Pipeline coming from the Tar Sands in Alberta with two pipelines, of a disasterous oil spill. It is the home to the cultures of 70 First Nations, who depend on the fish for their livelihoods. Also Kitimat, B.C. would have a lot of oil tanker traffic, another possible disaster. These photos will show just how pristine this area is and all the wildlife that inhabit this vast area.(unfortunately does not view well as slide show)
PLEASE JOIN THE GROUP:ORANGUTANS ;MEN OF THE FOREST! This group by Michela M. has many petitions to sign to help The Orangutans, also the Elephants and Rhinos and the beautiful Tigers of Sumatra that are dwindling in numbers and close to becoming extinct. The Orangutans of Indonesia are close to becoming extinct unless we help all we can. They are so magnificant and intelligent. Their problems became so magnified with the Palm Oil Industry taking over so much land, Logging, Paper Plants like APP, cutting down the beautiful rainforests, setting the peat on fire. The Orangutans have been tortured, taken captive, beaten and starved by local farmers, caught in the fires, and they need our help!
Rainforest Solution Project Sadly pipelines and tankers aren't the only threats to the Great Bear Rainforest. British Columbia made headlines six years ago when it promised to save one of the last intact Coastal Temperate Rainforests on the planet. Today logging is still allowed in 50% of the Great Bear Rainforest, so the whole forest is still at risk. That is why we (Ancient Forest Alliance) are calling on the Provincial Government to 'Take It Taller' Help the First Nations communities that depend on it and the hundreds of grizzles, spirit bears, wolves, cougars and salmon.
