RE: The Tide Is Turning
Thank you to all of you who have been so important to Hillary and to our campaign! As we discussed on our phone call, here is some material on the Pennsylvania primary results and the role that women played. Please use this information in speaking on behalf of Hillary - remember, you are a powerful messenger!
Women's turnout went up: Women made up 59% of the electorate in the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania, compared to 53% in 2004.
Women's support for Hillary continues strong:
· Hillary won women 57%-43% in Pennsylvania.
· Pennsylvania elected women, such as Lt. Governor Catherine Baker Knoll and Rep. Allyson Schwartz were great advocates for Hillary. Leaders like Congresswomen Stephanie Tubbs Jones (Ohio), Sheila Jackson-Lee (Texas) Carolyn Maloney (New York) and Ellen Malcolm of EMILY's List came to the state as well.
· Campaign events reaching women voters included "Hillary I Know" house parties in the Philadelphia suburbs with longtime friends and advisors to Hillary such as Judy Lichtman, Lissa Muscatine, Leecia Eve and Judith McHale. The campaign also launched a national "Make Change Count" campaign highlighting Hillary's leadership in working for equal pay - an important economic and fairness issue for women and families.

Hillary is now ahead in the popular vote:
According to Real Clear Politics, Hillary has received 15,095,663 votes to Sen. Obama's 14,973,720, a margin of more than 120,000 votes. ABC News reported this morning that "Clinton has pulled ahead of Obama" in the popular vote. This count includes certified vote totals in Florida and Michigan.
As we look toward the general election in the fall against John McCain, Hillary is the strongest candidate:
· She has won Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, New Jersey, and California - all key states in the general election - with comfortable margins. Hillary Clinton has shown time and again that she is the strongest Democrat to win these critical states.
· Hillary won 60 of Pennsylvania's 67 counties, including the rural counties in the western part of the state, blue-collar counties in the northeast and the suburbs of Philadelphia, demonstrating her ability to build support across constituencies.
· The economy is the number one issue facing many Americans, and Hillary is strongest on the economy. In Pennsylvania, 55% of voters cited the economy as the most important issue facing the country, and Hillary won those voters by a whopping 12 percent!
· She has the support of voters that will build a winning coalition in the fall, including: women, Hispanics, older voters, rural voters, working class voters and Catholics. Hillary is the most likely candidate to hold Democrats' current advantages and expand the electoral map in the Southwest and in swing states like Arkansas and Arizona.
I have a real problem with the History Channel. They are coming out with this series which glorifies logging. It's called Ax Men. I have seen only the previews, but this link will take you to the History Channel's home page, where you can readily see the ad for the show front and center.
The first-ever non-fiction series about the treacherous life of Pacific Northwest timber cutters, AX MEN, premieres Sunday, March 9 at 10pm ET/PT on History. From History and Original Productions, the same team responsible for the mega hit, Ice Road Truckers, this series looks at the legacy that the pioneers of our country laid for the present and future generations of loggers.
Deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest, rugged men make their living doing one of the most dangerous jobs in history... Logging. Their mission: to retrieve timber perched on mountainsides too steep to access with machines. But this is no easy task.
For more than a hundred years, larger than life characters, many of whom are members of logging families that go back to the time when the West was being settled, have spent their days among towering trees and powerful machines and their nights in outposts far from the comforts of civilization. AX MEN will tell remarkable stories detailing the history of the logging industry, showing how technology has transformed life for today's logger, while the struggle of man versus nature stays the same.
Over the course of thirteen episodes, AX MEN follows four logging crews through a season in the remote forests of northwest Oregon. Plagued by mechanical failures, relentless weather--including a hurricane that ripped through the area--and violent and unpredictable terrain, these brave men risk their lives retrieving the very timber we depend on to build our country. Snapped cables, runaway logs and treacherous machinery are among the many dangers that threaten their lives and safety everyday. Anything and everything can go wrong on these sites and the price of even the simplest mistake can mean death.
This is obviously a careless disregard for our planet perpetrated by yet another series from the controversial History Channel. In one of the previews I saw on TV it shows a "logger" talking, and behind him is a HUGE patch of mountain that has been cleared of trees. What are these people at the History Channel thinking when they consider a program such as this acceptable???
I for one am highly upset about this series and intend to write the History Channel and give them a piece of my mind!
If anyone else would like to contact them, here is the link they give to contact them:
Though this is not a "sample letter" by any means, this is what I wrote to them:
Hello,
I detest the fact that you are glorifying the cutting down of trees by coming out with the show Ax Men. In this time of global warming we should be doing all we can to discourage actions such as mass clearing of trees. Why can't you do a show about saving the rain forests around the world and how dangerous that is, or something of that nature? When you glorify the mass clearing of trees it only serves to make people feel comfortable with exploiting the planet instead of reminding them that we as humans are being neglectful of our planet. Please re-think these decisions in the future and avoid airing programs that make people not only feel at ease with degrading our planet Earth, but actually develop a "desire" to degrade it.
Do you have opinion about the Animal Liberation Front? Would you enjoy stating that opinion on an open debate group? Do you think they are terrorists? If so, why? Do you think the work they do and the efforts they make to rescue animals is good or bad? If so, why?
What is your opinion regarding civil disobedience, and why? Do you feel that the actions of the ALF are breaking the law, or merely 'bending' it? Do these actions help or hurt the Animal Rights/Welfare movement?
Come to the new group "Animal Liberation Front-Are They Terrorists?" and state your opinion about this subject and more. This is an open debate/discussion group about animals, the abuse and neglect of animals, the Animal Liberation Front and the efforts they make to liberate animals. Everyone is allowed to join, no opinions will be shut out. Discussions will be allowed to become heated.
The ALF group has many applications waiting. Due to a mix-up in group ownership we have been unable to approve any of these apps. The group's ownership has now been resolved and the application reviewing process is now underway.
The reviewing process is a lengthy one for obvious reasons, but please hang in there with us and hopefully your app will be approved soon.
If you have a concern about your app, or want to re-apply at anytime in the future, please contact me.
Thanks for your patience, and thanks for all you do for the animals.
From: petlovers@vci.net * * * DO NOT ADOPT TO REBECCA OR TONY WILLIAMS * * *
Tony & Rebecca Williams (e-mail: JaRuleW@aol. com ) claim to have a rescue in Rocky Mount, NC and are trying to get dogs from all over the Eastern Seaboard. (She offered to take 14 dogs since Monday) She continues to take dogs, most are pit bulls, with some offers to adopt Presa Canarios, Rottwiellers, Dobermans, and Wolf hybrids. In addition, sh e had previously posted that her roommate was looking for a Great Dane or Great Dane mix. She also posted that she was 'desperate' for a Chihuahua and she really wanted a Mini Pin and a Jack Russell.
She claims her rescue is a pit bull rescue, but another pit rescuer called the local Animal Control. Animal Control's comments: 'She's been barred from taking any dogs from the shelters in her area. He also said she has a long criminal history, has been selling Pit Bulls on street corners for 15 or 20 dollars and has been under investigation for dog fighting.'
Atlantic Rescue has now banned her, after finding out this information. These are the breeds she has asked for: a.. Pit Bulls b.. Rottwiellers c.. Dobermans d.. Presa Canarios e.. Tea Cup Chihuahuas f.. Jack Russell Terriers g.. Shar Peis h.. Min Pin i.. Great Dane (Pure Breed or Mix)
She uses the little dogs as bait! Please cross post! Please check for your breed above and notify all rescues. They are going out of their area looking for dogs to adopt. __

Another reason to be extremely careful with transporting to people/groups of which you haven't personal knowledge.

I have a sister who has been very ill for the last 10 years with type II Diabetes, and now appears to be reaching the end of the long hard road she has been traveling with this disease.
The doctors called my mom last night and told her that they can't raise Paulette's blood pressure to anything even near normal. They said it's been somewhere near 45/20 for too long now, and they fear she's at the end. They have moved her to ICU, and are trying again to see what can be done, if anything.
I may not be around much for the next week, or maybe two, just depending how things go. But I'll pop in occasionally to keep you updated.
My best to you all, and I know you'll keep the fight for animals going strong!
