It’s enough of a burden to bear have to put up with an egotistical, ignorant cowboy-wannabe in the White House. But now it seems that Bushitis is making rapid inroads in the White House administration at an unprecedented rate.

First we have Alberto Gonzales questioning the Constitutional right of Habeas Corpus. He presides over the entire judicial system of the United States. How secure are we in the commitment of our current government to our Constitution when the Attorney General of the country soars with senators over this implicit right that has stood as a beacon of judicial fairness for over 200 years?

Then, two brave border patrol agents were illegally prosecuted and jailed for trying to defend out country from the predatory incursion of a vicious drug smuggler.

IMHO, Gonzales should have been among the first to speak out against the fate of border agents Jose Alonso Compean and Ignacio Ramos. These men have served in hazardous conditions with honor, and their “trial” was a farce of which the entire judicial system should be ashamed. Gonzales should be conducting a thorough investigation of the allegations made by three jurors that they were coerced into voting these men guilty, while the real criminal, Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila, who was transporting a van full of 800 lbs. of marijuana across the border from Mexico to the US, was given freedom and immunity to complain about being shot in his sorry butt. In addition, the concealing of the fact that this criminal had other charges pending was withheld from the jury as the pompous prosecutors demonized the men this country has empowered to put an end to these continuing violations of our safety and security. I’d give a handsome bon mot to know the extent of smuggler Aldrete-Davila’s US political payoff connections – connections that not only forgave his crimes but also resulted in a mockery of a trial that convicted and jailed the wrong men.

Now new allegations have emerged- charges that Gonzales and his minions conducted a witch hunt purge of prosecutors from the Department of Justice, apparently with lots of input from White House politicos.

And the revelations of the hitherto-unknown excesses of the internal spying carried out against Americans to ferret out possible "terrorist connections” are enough to cause one to look back over one’s shoulder to see if jack-booted militias are approaching to shine that government flashlight up everyone’s collective behind…hark back to Ben Franklin, and his wisdom in saying that those who would trade liberty for security deserve neither.

Alberto Gonzales has shown himself to be a self-serving toady to one of the most – possibly THE MOST- corrupt administrations in America’s history. Gonzales must go – now - before more and more of us find ourselves in the government spotlight wondering, “Why me?”
