The Casualty List

All the young faces staring out at me,
Some smiling, some solemn, all children.
Children of the heartland, children of the coast,
Sons of mountaineers and daughters of the desert,
Some searching for themselves,
Others running from themselves,
Clad in greenandbrown and other colors of deception.
Wrap them all in bunting now,
The red, the white, the blue,
And bring them home to sleep among the heroes of our myths.
