Earth College is proud to sponsor Keep The Oil In The Soil. We will be protesting proposed off-shore and land oil drilling in America on July 4, 2008. The alternative solutions to our energy and transportation needs are already viable and available. We speak out in favor of implementing these green alternatives as opposed to drilling for and using oil any more.
Route 7 passes right through Middlebury and people can not help but slow down to heed traffic. Therefore we will be gathering at the Middlebury Green on July 4, 2008 from 12-3PM. Holding signs and offering information about the alternatives will be the focus of this event.
If you are unable to make this event, we encourage you to host your own at your local intestate highway. Whether it is a tailgate or simply a bunch of people on the highway, may we stand united against the threat of oil drilling in America.
Please RSVP. You are welcome to copy our flier and edit it to your specifications.
I am serious. This man couldn't tell if the dog that bit him was a Husky or a Wolf. And yet his popularity crosses all political and religious boundaries. How can this man be taken seriously when he has no idea what is reality and what is fiction? Although the radio station claims that they are non-partisan, it is obvious that Glenn Beck is using his leverage to dissuade the general public from caring about the environment. He is more right-wingnut than he claims and it shows in the adds he promotes as well as the discussions he engages in.
Case in point: Several weeks ago he was talking about the price of OIL and one caller brought up something about electric cars. They were talking about the movie "Who Killed The Electric Car", which was miss quoted and Glenn corrected. He then went on to falsely summarize this documentary, stating that the batteries could only hold enough electricity to go 45 miles. This is not completely accurate. GM first used inferior re-chargeable batteries, but figured out they weren't right and replaced them with nickel metal-hydride batteries which hold enough electricity to go over 100MI per charge.
The economists, Glenn Beck and associates are also claiming that there is over 70 years of oil in America. The scientists say that there is less than 5 years of oil in this country, and yet thousands of people are trusting the economists over the scientists. What is wrong with this picture?
Our efforts are so scattered because people like Glenn exist. We petition for the protection of every animal, plant, and natural habitat individually. This is great, except we are left open for a massive calculated assault and many of us haven't seen it coming. I propose that we pool our individual resources and create a petition which addresses our need for things, electricity, heat and the freedom to travel through clean energy, fuel and packaging, thus preserving life on this planet.
Please join our chat group to discuss the ways we can educate and inspire the general population of idiots to realize that the alternatives are already feasible and in practice today. Perhaps they will not be so quick to agree to further destruction of Earth once they realize how easy the alternatives really are.
Some one actually said this to me while we were in the middle of the first real blizzard of the season. This blizzard was not in November as it usually has been, but in February (2006) when the sun is actually closer to the Northern Hemisphere.
Well, imagine my shock to hear such words from a well-educated individual. Is this the way people think? Do they actually believe that the term 'global warming' must invariably mean that the whether everywhere is going to be warmer? If this is so, then we environmentalists are not doing enough to get the information and resolutions out to people.
I of course replied to this individual, "'global warming' does not mean that the whether is becoming warmer all of the time. The whether is off balance."
This person nodded in consent.
"The polar caps are still melting. Kilimanjaro has less snow than ever recorded. Lakes and channels are drying up everywhere. Just because we are experiencing a blizzard in February does not change the fact that the whether in many places, including here, is whacked," I stated and went back to work. He hasn't talked about it since.
It seems that people are so caught up in their own drama to see the real threat. If it isn't in their backyard they don't care. Well, I've got news for them. It is in our back, front and side yard everywhere. The photo is of a tree in our front yard and was taken after the blizzard of October 2004.
At our local Earth Day event the crowd seemed limited to those who are passionate about the health of our planet. There seemed to be very little interest by the outside community. People were just driving their cars and going about their business, as usual.
