THIS IS HIS WALK JOURNAL :

[b]Rememberance Walk Journal Started Day 2[/b]

At 7:15am when I hit lap 133, I had to sit a while. I know at this pace I will end early Friday morning (no media) and my legs were weak. The cold (40 degrees) and rain took its toll through the night. My back is burning so I chopped .19 per lap off at lap 80. This adjusts the total down from 149 miles to 129 miles.

As of this posting, total miles walked is 75. At 1:30am, I had to leave the route due to being chilled so bad it caused spasms. My son in law walked 29 laps for me so credit him with 15 miles of the total. I am trying to finish this. I see it as the laps, not the distance walked.

We had 4 people take the name of one of the fallen to make donations in their memory. Most people are unaware or just done care. By the way, 3 of the 4 people were under 25. At 5pm or so, I spoke to a teenager close to 14 years old. He asked what I was doing so I told him. He replied, "Thats alot of laps." I said, "It was alot of people." He just shrugged and rode away. Taking for granted the freedom he has today because of service men and women who laid their life down.

After I walked the first lap, I had to stop to speak with the local paper Soo Evening News and pose for pictures as I gave the owner of Grooves Music a coin. Gary has been so understanding and helpful with the walk and everything else. I think it would be nice if all of us write a thank you note to:

We need to support those who support us since there are so few. Cold again, body spasms, sides cramping up. I know I can finish this but it looks like another long day and night ahead. Only 108 laps to go, not that bad. I have been told that after you eat, you should exercise carefully as the blood is diverged to the stomach to digest the food so I have been waiting 30 minutes after eating before walking. I guess that explains why I get real cold after I eat.

I see this walk as freeing the souls of the fallen, another rescue mission I must not fail this time. City worker stopped by and thanked all of us for serving in Beirut. He served from 1980 - 1984, West coast marine.

8:30am on the 18th. Rain is stopping, starting to warm up. David Scott from Edward Jones Investments dropped off coffee for me, another supporter.

At 5pm, lap 153. A total of 84.5 miles so far.

Most of you know that my husband and I, as well as many veterans and families of the fallen from the 1983 Beirut Bombing have been working hard to get the investigation reopened as well as planning with the White House a "Walk of Remembrance".

As we fight to be noticed and get this accomplished, we have noticed a disturbing neglect of important issues by the media. Now granted, this is an issue from 22 years ago, but ignoring our plea to get this reopened ranks right up there with someone ignoring or forgetting that their own child died years ago. These men were human beings like us, they had families like us, they had hopes and dreams and fears like us and all of it was snuffed out with one blast. A blast that shouldn't have happened. A blast that NOBODY has admitted to being at fault for.

It has become blatently clear to us that the media is more interested in what clothing Tom Cruise wore to the awards than why a bombing of this magnitude has been covered up for 22 years.

My husband has contacted in upwards of 20 major news centers with no response. When contacting our local paper, he was met with an attitude and short temperedness. The man basically told him that nobody cares what happened to all those men because it happened 22 years ago. To say the least, my husband and I were mortified. This man actually said that this was bulls*** that we would bring this up now.


Is this our country's mentality now? "Oh who cares what happened in our past as long as the future is okay."?? Our future will NOT be okay thinking like this. We all have to CARE enough to step up and be heard. We have to fight for our rights and for the truth. We can't think that it's okay to just "Let it go" if it's still weighing heavily on our hearts and souls.

I would no sooner forget this than forget the circumstances surrounding the murder of someone where the perpetrator was never brought to justice. Would you? Could you?

If someone broke into your home and either hurt or killed someone in your family and they never found the person who did it, would you have forgotten about it 20 years later? Or would it still weigh heavily on you? I think we all know the answer to this question deep down inside.

So, now I would like to ask all of you to contact your congressmen and tell them that this investigation needs to be reopened. Do it for the veterans, do it for the families of the fallen, do it for YOUR future.



Sleep Well America

The sleeping masses, those who have no idea that men and women are giving their lives for you, for your right to speak your mind, the ability to sleep well in a world filled with hatred. I have known these men and women, I have stood shoulder to shoulder with them to make your nights safer, your days brighter. Most Americans swell with pride when the Old Glory is carried by in the local parade, most will shake the hand of a hero. These are the patriots who understand what these men and women sacrifice for in the corners of every part of this great nation sits people who hate all that we stand for, they fill with anger when the flag passes and would spit on the hero but these people have that right. The Heros gave it to them, fought and died for those people to have the right to spit in their faces. This is why The United States of America is the greatest nation on the Earth. So either stand up or turn away but Old Glory is raised high in battle by the very men and women who may have once placed your groceries in a bag or played with your child. Maybe they were standing right behind you the last time you spat on the flag, these men and women will spill their own blood so you all may live in peace. So sleep well America, speak your mind and maybe say thanks to those who are fighting to preserve these rights.

Beirut Veterans Getting Heard

We have spoken to Benjamin Barbin from the White House Commission on Remembrance. They are interested in our plan for the Remembrance Walk for Beirut Veterans in 2008 and wish to have a conference call in July after their planning phase for this years events. I will keep you all informed as to what happens then.
