This was on the front page of the Soo Evening News today! We were all SO excited to see it.

THIS IS HIS WALK JOURNAL :

Rememberance Walk Journal Started Day 2

At 7:15am when I hit lap 133, I had to sit a while. I know at this pace I will end early Friday morning (no media) and my legs were weak. The cold (40 degrees) and rain took its toll through the night. My back is burning so I chopped .19 per lap off at lap 80. This adjusts the total down from 149 miles to 129 miles.

As of this posting, total miles walked is 75. At 1:30am, I had to leave the route due to being chilled so bad it caused spasms. My son in law walked 29 laps for me so credit him with 15 miles of the total. I am trying to finish this. I see it as the laps, not the distance walked.

We had 4 people take the name of one of the fallen to make donations in their memory. Most people are unaware or just done care. By the way, 3 of the 4 people were under 25. At 5pm or so, I spoke to a teenager close to 14 years old. He asked what I was doing so I told him. He replied, "Thats alot of laps." I said, "It was alot of people." He just shrugged and rode away. Taking for granted the freedom he has today because of service men and women who laid their life down.

After I walked the first lap, I had to stop to speak with the local paper Soo Evening News and pose for pictures as I gave the owner of Grooves Music a coin. Gary has been so understanding and helpful with the walk and everything else. I think it would be nice if all of us write a thank you note to:

Gary Hatch at Grooves Music
540 Ashmun Street
Sault Sainte Marie, MI
49783

We need to support those who support us since there are so few. Cold again, body spasms, sides cramping up. I know I can finish this but it looks like another long day and night ahead. Only 108 laps to go, not that bad. I have been told that after you eat, you should exercise carefully as the blood is diverged to the stomach to digest the food so I have been waiting 30 minutes after eating before walking. I guess that explains why I get real cold after I eat.

I see this walk as freeing the souls of the fallen, another rescue mission I must not fail this time. City worker stopped by and thanked all of us for serving in Beirut. He served from 1980 - 1984, West coast marine.

8:30am on the 18th. Rain is stopping, starting to warm up. David Scott from Edward Jones Investments dropped off coffee for me, another supporter.

At 5pm, lap 153. A total of 84.5 miles so far.

(to be continued)

[ note : this is being written with paper and pen. steve asked for this to be posted. ]

Here is the letter written by Congressman Bart Stupak of Michigan Donald Rumsfeld. He wrote the letter on my behalf asking Rumsfeld to Reopen the Investigation. If you agree with this please ask your Rep. to follow Stupak and maybe then we can start a tradition of Justice for Veterans.

This is in pdf form and may take up to 3 minutes to load depending on your connection.

                                                         This Man

This man was once a young boy with dreams.
This man grew up and joined the Navy.
This man fought for our country.
This man went to Beirut on a peacekeeping mission.
This man saw things that most couldn't handle.
This man came back someone different.
This man buried his tears.
This man now has a fear of death.
This man hurts for his fallen brothers.
This man dreams of atonement.
This man has lost his zest for life.
This man has been stamped crazy by the VA.
This man needs understanding.
This man needs to be heard.
This man is my husband.
This man is my love.
This man is my life.

This man, this one man is just one in vast sea of men and women who have served their country and are now paying the ultimate price of living out the remainder of their lives as someone they were not meant to be. Who knows what they COULD have been. Who knows what their lives would have been like. What they may have accomplished.

This was written in honor of my husband and the many people who have served in the military to give us the freedom we have. THEY did it, not the rest of us. THEY made the ultimate sacrifice so OUR lives could be normal. And now THEIR lives aren't. They walk the earth wondering what could have been. If they hadn't served, would they be walking the earth with smiles and hopes and dreams? Would they be living lives where the family is sturdy and full of laughter? Would they still be married to the people that they were when they left?

These are the things that we all take for granted. We assume that our servicemen can "take it". That they will persevere. It's not that cut and dried folks. These people come back to live lives of nightly hauntings of the images they saw.

I commend all of our troops and I commend most of all my husband for whom I have watched go through this hell for 22 years.

I can imagine our life being alot different than it is now, but it doesn't matter to me. All that matters is that he KNOWS that people care. That we don't take him and countless others for granted. They were all once normal people like us with dreams, aspirations and hopes. Now it's up to all of us civilians to help them all feel comfortable in knowing that what they did for us was nothing less than courageous.
