where is the home for the black labrador it is now or never....please help...he has friends....transportation can be arranged contact linner47@adelphia.net
These two boys are in the Kingsville pound andare out of time. The young shepherd/lab mix is an awesome boy. He was tagged, once his 10 day hold was up but for some reason hasn't been adopted. The black and tan boy is one of the group of five that was dumped a week and a half ago by their owner. The mastiff male and black lab male in that group were adopted and the pound is going to tag the two females for a while since they are both fully vetted. Please take a look at these two sweet boys, crosspost far and wide and let me know if anyone can help. Thanks!
THE BOULEVARD HAS GONE TO THE DOGS 11:06 PM INTERNATIONAL BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS HAS GONE TO THE DOGS. INTERESTING MATERIAL HAS BEEN SUPPLIED, NEITHER OF WHICH HAS BEEN READ OR COMMENTED UPON. IT WOULD APPEAR I AM "THE ODD MAN OUT."
BEING THE OPPORTUNIST THAT I AM, TOMORROW I SHALL OPEN A NEW THREAD. IT WILL BE FOR YOU TO LIST THE DONATIONS YOU HAVE MADE AS THE YEAR PROGRESSES, AND THE ANIMALS WHICH YOU HAVE ADOPTED FROM OUR ALERTS FOR THE WORK IN WHICH WE DO, AS WELL AS MEMBERSHIP TO VARIOUS NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. I HOPE THAT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE SEARCHED IN THE ARCHIVES.
MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE THE ORIGIN OF A MESSAGE STEMS FROM ME, WHEN IN ACTUALITY I AM SIMPLY TRANSMITTING. IN RETURN, I RECEIVE MESSAGES STATING THE DONATIONS YOU EITHER HAVE MADE OR WILL MAKE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. WE WILL OPERATE UNDER "HAVE MADE" ONLY. RATHER THAN THAT OF GOOD INTENTIONS, WHICH, MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, DO NOT REACH FRUITION.
I am close to collapse. The snow was terrible on chained dogs!! Please send this to others. There is no way on God's earth that I have time to drive all the way to Vancouver with your calendars. I work from 5 am to 7 pm every bloody day and I am swamped! I can mail them. Let me know. Judy
My name is Judy Lopes. I am a professional dog walker in Vancouver.
I have a desperate plea on behalf of a dog I have known and walked for 5 or 6 years. This story makes me sick and angry.
I found out today (Nov. 28), that this was going to be Nellie's last walk. When I asked if they had found a new home for Nellie, the response was, "No, we are going to have her euthanized." I was shocked. Nellie is not the kind of dog that any responsible person would euthanize. Granted she has her issues but I have never experienced them on her walks. She listens well and is eager to please. Which leads me to believe she really just needs someone who understands dog behaviour and can show her who her leader is? I truly believe she is not getting this from her present people.
They have tried the city pound and SPCA. Neither one will take Nellie.
Can you please Help in anyway possible?
They (Nellie's people) are willing to wait to hear back from me, but who knows for how long.
Below is a letter I received last week, with a better description of Nellie’s behaviour (when with her family) and a couple of pictures.
We adopted Nellie from the Vancouver Dog Pound when she was about one and now she is 7 ½ years old. We don’t know her background, but think she was abandoned. She’s a knee-high golden lab/husky cross, maybe with some sheba inu. She is spayed, licensed in Vancouver, healthy and up to date with her shots.
Nellie is fairly active as she is used to walking about 45 minutes every morning, at least 20-30 minutes every evening, has two longer outings on hiking trails with a dog walker twice a week and usually has other outings on the weekends. She is responsive to commands, but will chase squirrels, cats, and skunks given the chance and for this reason is usually walked on leash when in our neighbourhood. She loves parks, beaches, running and snow, and has spent many happy times playing in Tofino on the beach and in the forest.
Nellie is well socialized with other dogs most of the time. We have another smaller dog at home, and she is good with the other dogs she knows through the dog walker. She is better when meeting dogs off leash as she sometimes doesn’t react well to other dogs when she feels at a disadvantage. She does like to assert her alpha nature with some other submissive dogs.
Nellie needs a calm household with a clear alpha owner as she is high-strung and protective, even in situations where she doesn’t need to be. She responds well to deep, calm voices and consistent commands. She is very responsive to our female dog walker, so we think she will be suited to a home where the main caregiver will be a male or an assertive female.
Why does Nellie need a new home?
She is coming from a home where she is dearly loved, but is too chaotic, with too many kids coming and going, all of which make her nervous. Although she has been great with our own three kids (the youngest was two when we first got Nellie) she has recently snapped at two very small children (under two) and she barks at small kids which frightens them. This has led us to put her in a separate room when small children are around, which then makes her even more nervous of/threatened by small children. It isn’t fair on her to put her in that situation, but given our household we have to accept our reality that we do have small children around constantly. We think this also exacerbates her, at times, aggressive tendencies with some other, more submissive dogs.
We believe that given the right home, Nellie will thrive. She is a great companion dog, and will love her owner as she is extremely affectionate. She would love a home with an active person who loves to get out in the outdoors.

HI JUDY,
DID YOU RECEIVE MY MONEY ORDER FOR THE CALENDARS. A COUPLE OF PEOPLE OUT OF COUNTRY SAID THEY WOULD SEND YOU A DONATION FOR GWEN. I HOPE THEY DO. MOST PEOPLE I ASSOCIATE WITH ARE IN THE U.S. SO THE ONLY THING I COULD DO IS TO POST A NOTE ON THE BULLETIN BOARD IN THE BUILDING. WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO DO THAT?
Subject: Nellie mustn't end up in a pound cell - Please - just foster ONE dog?
I have four dogs and one still needs a lot of rehabilitation. We will finally find a home for Nellie, she just needs someone willing to foster her. I sent out an appeal for Nellie to over 300 people. All I can do is try again. I won't let this dog go to a prison cell in a pound to be sold to anyone who pays. If all the dog-lovers we know would just foster one dog a year....
Taking Nellie to any pound is brutal and despicable. They will sell her to god only knows who and there is massive dog abuse in Squamish. When AAS sends out appeals for homes or foster homes for dogs, a lot of people say "Oh isn't that awful!", but the only dogs that get action are the tiny and purebred ones. If no one else will foster her, I will have to. Please call me at 922-1813.
No one has offered to foster or adopt Nellie. I am not sure about the N. S. News. The owners are planning to take her to the pound in Squamish. Apparently, it's a no kill pound and has a high turn over. They have since told me that they will do what they can to get her adopted. That them telling me they were going to euthanize Nellie was a moment of desperation. Nice ey?
By the way my friend who had offered to foster Nellie has changed her mind for personal reasons. I am feeling discouraged. I am not happy about Nellie going into a pound situation.
I will let you know of anything that happens, good or bad.
Did anyone actually offer to foster her or adopt her? I can run her in the North Shore News, but it won't run again until Sunday, Dec 17th.
Judy

Montgomery County Animal Resource Center Friday Update on Pit Bull Situation
Release Date: Oct 27, 2006 File:
Summary: 1. As a result of the intake of an additional 39 pit bulls, the Animal Resource Center has not euthanized any dogs due to space issues. Because of the fantastic response of our animal adoption partners, the ARC has been able to send out all adoptable dogs, while fostering others with organized and private foster providers.
2. The local partners that have helped include the Dayton Humane Society, SICSA, Miami County Animal Shelter, Greene County Animal Shelter, Butler County Animal Shelter and private and established breed rescue groups. We can't thank these partners enough for helping us at this time. Our adoptable dogs are at these locations, and if you are looking to adopt this weekend, we encourage you to visit these shelters.
3. We have moved approximately 40 dogs out to local shelters and rescues in order to make room for the Pit Bulls. More adoptable dogs are expected next week and the ARC encourages the public to look at our wonderful selection of adoption animals.
4. Saturday's operations at the Animal Resource Center are limited due to the need to do medical evaluations on the Pit Bulls and reallocate them to more permanent housing. No adoptions at the ARC will be conducted on Saturday, and owners looking for strays are encouraged to contact the ARC to help with location of their pet.
5. None of the Pit Bulls from this case or the previous case three months ago (totally approximately 80 animals) are available for adoption.
6. Health issues on the seized Pit Bulls run the gamut. Some of the dogs are in good condition, others have many health concerns. Some of the health concerns initially noted include scars, flea infestation, weight issues, mutilation and evidence of dog fighting.
7. The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center is responding to this situation and is hoping for Montgomery County residents to bear with them during the next few weeks. Residents wanting to offer help are encouraged to contact the ACR to sign up for volunteering. Volunteer opportunities might include cleaning or assisting with non-dog related activities, or working with adoptable and stray animals. Cash donations are desperately needed, as the seized animals have medical needs and are depleting medical funding resources allocated for adoptable dogs. Large indestructible dog toys such as the Kong Brand are also requested, as the Pit Bulls are currently in need of distraction from their surroundings.
