The reporters came to ¶À¶í§ø at 3 o'clock yesterday.  The delicious smell of the cooked dog has spread throughout the village. It can be seen that the cooking pans and ovens which are specifically used for cooking dog are installed in every family in the village. All the villagers celebrated the Lunar new year with the dogs feasts.
Villagers said dogs feast is served specifically during the Lunar new year. They are used to raising dogs ten months before the dogs feast. The maximum number of dog raised is upto six in each family and it would not be less than 3. The characteristic of dogs feast is in an open atmosphere which all the people are welcome to eat all together.

1. URGENT: Changes to seal hunt observer permits (letters needed)The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is trying to restrict observation of the seal hunt by increasing the distance we must remain from sealers from 10 to 20 meters.  
If implemented, this increase will make documenting the seal hunt difficult - and at times impossible.
The DFO has put a page on their website, inviting responses from the public. The deadline is Friday, February 16th (text below). Please email the DFO at resatl@dfo-mpo.gc.ca by February 16th, and tell them NOT to increase the minimum distance.

(VERY IMPORTANT: Please also send a confirmation email to raldworth@hsi.org so that we can be sure we have an accurate record of how many letters are sent. Do not just ‘cc’ this address with your email to the DFO, however, as it will decrease the impact of your letter.)

Here are some points you can make:
  1. The Canadian seal hunt occurs in public space. Our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees us the right to document this activity.
  2. The proposed increase in distance will make filming the seal hunt difficult and at times impossible - a transparent attempt to stop documentation of the seal hunt.  
  3. The only violence towards people that has ever occurred at the seal hunt has been from sealers towards observers. So it is absurd that observers are required to stay 10 meters away from sealers, but sealers are not required to stay 10 meters away from observers. If there is to be any change surrounding observation, it should be to require sealers to stay 10 meters away from observers.
  4. Instead of restricting observation of the seal hunt, the Canadian government should work to end the seal hunt, given it is opposed by the majority of Canadians.

Canadians must have the right to document this activity, or it becomes a one-sided debate. Thanks for any help you can provide.

SEAL FISHERY OBSERVATION LICENCE
 

In order to observe the Canadian seal hunt, individuals must obtain a seal fishery observation licence from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO). This licence requires the observer to maintain a minimum distance of 10 metres from a sealing activity. This minimum distance requirement was included in seal fishery observation licences to allow sealers to conduct the sealing activity without disruption. DFO has been asked to review the minimum distance that observers must be from a sealing activity during the seal hunt.  Many consider this to be a safety issue for both the sealers and the observers.  Some parties oppose this licence requirement altogether, while some sealers would like to make it more stringent.Should the minimum observation distance set out in the seal fishery observation licence be increased from 10 metres to 20 metres?  Do you think that another distance would be more appropriate? We would appreciate your views and comments on this issue.  Your feedback is very important and will be considered in making any decisions, therefore please provide as much detail as possible.  Please send your comments electronically to resatl@dfo-mpo.gc.ca by February 16, 2007.
 
2. International Protest against Fur – second demonstration added 

Tuesday, February 13, 2007 from 12 pm to 2 pm AND 3pm to 5pm outside the Chinese Consulate Office at 3380 Granville Street and 16th in Vancouver.

Please donate two hours of your time to come to the Chinese Consulate and protest against the bloody fur trade in China. It's important to send a strong message to China to stop importing and selling cat and dog fur in other countries.

Huntingdon Life Sciences (HL trading under the ticker symbol LSR, is a company whose primary business is death and suffering. 500 animals are killed there every day to test products like toothpaste and tanning lotion. They are poisoned, they are cut and burned, they have limbs broken and on top of that they have to endure the cruelty of sadistic technicians who have been proven, in 5 undercover investigations and a recent whistleblower report, to abuse and torture the animals in their care.

Prior to December 22, 2006, HLS was not listed on any reputable exchange, had no market makers and was over $80 million in debt and losing customers and suppliers by the score. NYSE Arca listed LSR to protect the NYSE from threatened litigation. NYSE caved in to the pressure. Investors expect more from the NYSE. The public expects financial transparency, business integrity and high ethical standards from the NYSE. Instead NYSE made a deal that got them “off the hook” while betraying the public trust.

Win Animal Rights now declares WAR against those who would enable the killing at HLS/LSR to continue unabated. The NYSE and anyone connected to it, including: staff, market makers, specialists, investors, and support organizations are all legitimate focal points of this educational information campaign. This will be the third successful anti-fur demo held by the Anti-Fur Society at the Chinese Embassy, and we hope to count on your presence to speak out against the bloody fur trade on behalf of the defenseless.

Directions:

The Chinese Embassy is a couple of blocks from the Woodley Park Metro Station near the Washington Zoo.  It is also about 4 or 5 blocks from Dupont Circle, downtown Washington DC.   Both areas are served by the Red Line metro and several buses. Wherever you're coming from, just use Dupont Circle as a point of reference and go from there.  Parking in the area is very difficult although not impossible.  However, you will do better by using the abundant public transportation in the area, or just walk if you are not too far away!

Anyway, i heard part of some report on the news about this and searched on the web for it.
After seeing how important animal rights seem to be to you, I would like to share a website with you that I found very disturbing - Now I can't eat beef at all, and have serious concerns with other meat products too.
I have always found meat sort of disgusting anyway, now this drove it home - just a horrible report on the meat industry - hopefully it is all true.  The part that got me was seeing the sick and diseased cattle going to market.
