Ever since I put several birdbaths in the back garden I have had masses of birds hopping around my bushes. There is a pair of resident doves, and loads of honey eaters which adore the nectar from the wildflowers I have planted. Bottle brush, grevillea, they even love the geraniums, rosemary and hibiscus.
Put 2 cans of diced low salt tomatoes into a slow cooker, add 1 chopped peeled carrot, 1 stick of sliced celery, 1 diced onion, 1 clove garlic and 1 chilli. Add a splash of red wine and fresh herbs to taste, basil is good as is oregano. Add a grind of black pepper and then cook slowly until the sauce is reduced and thick. If you don't like hot tomato sauce remove the chilli at this point. Liquidise sauce and use as required. I usually freeze half for a future occasion.
We wanted to get a head shot of the horses so armed with carrots and a camera we let the horses out of their stables into a paddock and I busily snapped. This is the best of about a dozen pictures, but there is too much hand and carrot in it for a good photo. Still, the horses enjoyed their extra treat, each keeping an eye on the other to ensure no-one got more carrots than him!
Yesterday my daughter and I went to pick our dogs up from the kennels we had placed them in for the Christmas holiday. How I miss my little beagle when I don't have her with me. Both dogs are rescued and display some anxiety in being parted from us. My daughter's dog is a beautiful chocolate tri-colour border collie. He was probably about 1 year old when she rescued him from the pound. My beagle was known as a horror dog and had been passed around various homes when we took her on. She is affectionate, obedient, quiet, clean and has been absolutely no problem at all, apart from needing secure fencing in the backyard to prevent her going off hunting in our very urban environment.
At last I seem to have got over the artistic block that has been plagueing me since well before Christmas. Even though this pendant is nothing like I had planned, and I have trimmed it down a bit, I am just relieved to have started to work again.
