Help Stop the Tiger Trade!

Hello,

This is a time of great importance for Tiger conservation - despite the success of a 1993 domestic trade ban in tiger parts and international calls to maintain it, China is considering reopening the trade! This one decision would undoubtably cause the exinction of the tiger as we know it!
Please, take a stand for this species and tell China to keep the ban permanent!

Please, take action here! Spread the word and share this information with everyone you know. Your decision could mean the difference between the tiger surviving and the tiger being eaten into exinction!

I also welcome anyone who would be able to give suggestions on where the petition can be promoted on a large scale.

Kyle Hupfer is about to reverse his decision for Canned Hunts in Indiana Shooting Preserves to stop. He has the power to make that happen, he is the Director of the Indiana Dept of Natural Resources. Please support this petition to convince him that he made the right decision last August (2005)

STOP THE TRADE IN TIGER PARTS NOW!

This concerns a subject very close to my heart, it is something I work to stop every day. I am speaking about the illegal trade in tiger parts for traditional medicines. The demand for these medicines is wiping out the tiger in the wild, but that demand is not only in Asia. The trade in tiger medicines is active in Canada as well and this requires immediate action.

WWF-Canada, an organization I volunteer for every Wednesday, need your help to send a message to the Canadian government. All that is needed is less than 5 minutes of your time to send a letter to Stephan Dion calling upon the government to use more resources to help law enforcement stop the import and distribution of banned medicines like those containing tiger parts.

Please help!

Race for the Big Cats - this initiative by Care2 and the World Conservation Society is one of the most popular activist initiatives in the Care2 community. However, the needs of the people who take part in daily clicks and post in the discussion group are being ignored. Inquiries about the impact members of the race are having have been met with silence and requests for leadership in the Race for the Big Cats group fall on deaf ears.

The presence of an established leadership in the Care2 group and information about the race being passed along to the members would help to spark activity in the group. As this group has over 100,000 members, this is a great opportunity to make a difference for big cats.

100,000 voices

100,000 calls to action.

100,000 chances to change the world.

Please help this group...

WildAid

WildAid is an organization that I have supported for a very long time, one that I think about when I trying to make a difference for tigers. I do have a small amount of education in video editing so when I had some time, I whipped up a 2 minute, fan-made promotional video for WildAid.

It is nothing official, but I wanted something that was mine, that I could show to people I know, to motivate them into some sort of action. Go ahead and take a look.

If man cannot subdue something, he inexorably seeks to destroy it. Such is the way with our relationship with some creatures, such as the tiger. It is also inherent in the human condition that we attempt to defend ourselves against something that poses a threat to our immediate survival. Whether it is the tribal living in a tiger's forest or the collective utilitarian views of our species willing not to accept something that stops us from reaping resources that we feel has a direct impact on our survival, the assumption is fundamentally a theme in our fight.

Though our motives, be it subconscious or otherwise may be rooted in some sort of timeless programming in our genes (something that Darwin would delight in), it does not necessarily reflect what is right. Our species, once harmlessly sharing the land in a sort of spiritual understanding of natural processes has (in relatively recent times) adopted a different faith, where homo sapiens is the only thing that is truly alive on this seemingly endless gem of resources we call earth. We have become our own gods, with the world as our sacrifice. This religion of indifference, of cold steel and concrete, is the most destructive weapon ever conceived, one that (for the first time in history) poses a threat to life itself.

What blasphemy, what sorrow...

The tiger, once a mystical guardian of the forest has been raped, slaughtered and processed into a pitied, violated shell of its former self. Disenfranchised, the tiger's plight evokes mere sighs from the western world, hatred and commercial eradication from the east. What chance does the tiger have?

Some regard humanity as a steamroller, pointing to the idea that the nations in which the tiger calls home are corrupted, overly militaristic, destructively industrious, festering breeding grounds for humans. Some say it is not too late.

What is the future of the tiger?

To be honest, one cannot be too sure. All I know is that things are not yet gone and that there is a chance. The rub is we start now, every single one of us, without hesitation, without distraction. The war is about to begin. You have to make a decision as to whether you will be the freedom fighter, the bagh sevak, defender of the tiger, or part of humanity, bane incarnate.

Just be sure you can feel comfortable with yourself in the end.

"But do you really understand the significance of what is happening in your own country? Could you even consider the very real prospect of the wild without [animals] - the first keepers of the Kingdom? Such warnings can no longer be taken for granted. The history of the future is being written now, upon every slain and discarded carcass". -Charith Pelpola

I was just playing around with Photoshop and Imageready and came up with this. It came out surprisingly well for something so simple.

The tiger in the photo is Kumara whom you can see in my photo album.
