When Nikki (pit) was about a year old, she was found running down the middle of Park Avenue in Memphis. Mr. Bxxr took her home and decided to keep her. He owned a photography studio so Nikki lived there until the business closed (2-3 years ago). Mr. Bxxx had a partner (a female) and Nikki possibly saved the lady's life. This is what happened - - the female photographer was working late and a man came up to the locked front door and demanded that she open the door. When she wouldn't open the door, he started trying to break the glass. When Nikki heard the banging she raced from the back of the studio, threw her body against the door and spread out her paws on the glass, growling and barking. The man ran away.
Nikki is a hero!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Bxxx sold his studio and Nikki came home to live with him and his wife and their other two dogs. The other female boxer died of old age. That left Nikki and the male Shep X.
Mr. Bxxx developed Alzheimer's and 2 weeks ago he and his wife were placed in assisted living. Mr. Bxxxr made his son promise not to let anything happen to Nikki and her fur brother. Mr. Bxxx was Nikki's life and mom's fav was the Shep X. Nikki and dad would "sit for hours under the tree in the backyard. Nikki was always by his side."
WELL...................................... the home is empty, the yard looks like a jungle, and the two dogs, once house dogs, are being used for GUARD DOGS!!!!!!!!! Mr. Brasher and wife are in assisted living. They were told by their son that Nikki and the Shep got a new home in Mississippi. This is NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As soon as the house sells or is rented (whichever comes first) Nikki and her brother will be euthanized. The son is not a dog lover and he claims to have checked with all his family and no one can take either of the dogs.
Nikki is now 9 years old. She is suffering horribly from the heat and allergies. Her eyes are caked with yellow discharge. She has always been an inside dog. Mr. Brasher (the son) is using Nikki and the Shep to guard the house so they are kept outside (until the house sells).
I have no place to put Nikki so I asked if Mr. Brasher could donate any money for short-term boarding and he said "no." And guess what? He is an $$$$$ attorney $$$$$ for the man that owns all the topless clubs in Memphis. CHEAPO ~!!! and cares so little about his parents' dogs - sickening!!!!! Plus he has lied to his parents, telling them their dogs have a new home.
Does anyone out there have an application that might work out for Nikki? Both dogs are altered, fully vetted, and had yearly checkup 2 months old. I will have her vet checked (get a copy of her previous records) and have her allergies treated at my vet IF.......... someone can help me get her into a home.
Nikki a hero, who saved a life and now hers is worth nothing. This sweet senior deserves to live the remainder of her life in a loving home. What can we do to help Nikki? Please email Donna at heartsofgoldpitrescue@yahoo.com.
**I am hoping we can keep them together but that would take a miracle. I am sending the Shep's pics to mixed breed rescues in hopes of getting him into rescue.
The rescue I volunteer for was able to pull four puppies the shelter had labeled as Pit Bulls. They are extremely Tiny ( about 2 pounds or less) and Very Very sweet! They are not Pits but mixed breeds. The 2 little reds have markings very much like a Doberman with grey eyes, and the 2 blonde/white and brown/white have steel blue eyes that will melt your heart and look like Catahoula mix's. They may or may not have Pit in them but it is definately not the predominent breed. Anyways they were going to die for being Pits so I guess what they really are did not matter.
We are still getting around to updating Petfinder for these sweet guys (yup all boys) with new pics and info (they have only been here a day! )
I have 2 here with me and I have to say they are truely the sweetest puppies I have ever had! They LOVE my 2 year old daughter and they are not biters! They crawl up into her lap and just give her the sweetest kisses ever! They are very well socialized and are also having a great time playing with my other dogs!
I want for these little guys to get loving forever homes NOW before they get too big! They need to go to a home where they can be loved and grow up with their family!

If You LOVE Pit Bulls…If you can dedicate a few hours a week to helping the breed…If you have room in your heart and a little extra time on your hands…If you can’t foster or adopt a Pit Bull but still want to help rescue… Then why not become a part of a Great Rescue dedicated to helping this Wonderful breed of dogs! Help them overcome the obstacles in life by giving them a fighting chance through Rescue, Fostering Programs, Education, and Community involvement. There is more to running a successful Pit rescue than just saving dogs from being killed in shelters, assessing their temperament and finding them safe, new loving homes. It takes a team of dedicated individuals who all have different skills to offer to keep things running smoothly. Not all people can offer their home to a Pit in need, but may still want to help save their lives. That’s where YOU come in! We are now looking for people who have interest in Volunteering their time to Hearts of Gold Pit Rescue in the Following Areas: 1)Computer Literate Person to manage/run the H.O.G. website2)Computer Literate Person to manage/run the H.O.G. charitable storefront3)Anyone with Graphic Design abilities (or similar) to help create upbeat Pit Rescue designs for items (shirts/hats/bags ect&hellip to be sold in the H.O.G. store for donations to keep the rescue running.4)Person/persons (to work together if needed) to help keep track of BSL related activities and generate an updated once weekly list updating people on New and Pending BSL throughout USA.5)Breed Specific Educational Materials Coordinator (someone to put together literature to be handed out at events or to be emailed/mailed to those that request it.)6)People to help coordinate Fundraising efforts (To be led by C.M.) There are ALWAYS things that need to be done, and there is always room for people who truly LOVE the breed to volunteer!!!

Subject: Fw: ALERT!! DOG STOLEN FROM SHELTER ... taken in CT could be anywhere now:
This is only 4 days old but 4 days is a long time when your missing or someone evil has you. Note that Kammie has a white spot of her chest that clearly resembles a white dove flying sideways. This is not something you can hide. She was stolen from the shelter in CT but could be anywhere by now.
Please, cross post this out to anyone on the east coast as she could be in any state. If you work at a shelter, a vets office, or have contacts at any place she might turn up or be seen, please, make sure they get a copy!
CONTACT: Can anyone help!!!!!!! Jen Potts KAMBIRI@AOL.COM(@AOL.COM) 860-460-7171 ACO at 860-873-5044 East Haddam Dog Pound East Haddam, CT 860-873-5044 She was stolen from the East Haddam Dog Pound today/tonight (Thursday, July 20th, 2006).
Notes: WHY DID YOU STEAL KAMBIRI? THERE ARE OVER 100,000 DOGS ON PETFINDER.COM. PLEASE BRING MY KAMMI BACK. I AM DEVESTATED THAT SHE IS GONE AND MISS HER SO MUCH! SHE AND I HAVE A VERY SPECIAL BOND. WE ARE SO CLOSE--IMAGINE HOW YOU WOULD FEEL IF SOMEONE STOLE YOUR DOG. SHE MUST BE SO CONFUESED AND SCARED--IF YOU REALLY CARED FOR HER YOU WOULDN'T PUT HER THROUGH THIS. SHE HAS TO BE WONDERING WHY SHE LEFT AND DIDN'T GET TO SAY GOODBYE--SHE KNOWS I WOULD NEVER DO THAT TO HER. WE'VE BEEN TOGETHER FOR OVER A YEAR. IF YOU BRING HER BACK I CAN HELP YOU FIND ANOTHER DOG. YOU'VE ONLY KNOWN HER A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME AND I'VE LOVED HER THOUGH HER BEING SICK AND NURSING HER BACK TO HEALTH. I'VE WALKED HER IN THE SNOW, THE RAIN, AND HOT SUMMER HEAT. WE'VE GONE EVERYWHERE TOGETHER--I'M HER MOMMY. PLEASE DON'T TAKE MY BABY FROM ME. . .JUST THINK HOW IT WOULD FEEL IF SOMEONE DID THIS TO YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE. KAMMI DESERVES BETTER THAN TO BE STOLEN LIKE THIS. I WILL BE WAITING FOR HER RETURN AND ALWAYS BE HERE FOR HER. ********************************************************* KAMBIRI IS AN AWESOME DOG!*****KAMBIRI IS AN AWESOME DOG!*****KAMBIRI IS AN AWESOME DOG!*****GET IT??!!***** Call me (Jen, the volunteer) at 860-460-7171 or the ACO at 860-873-5044. You are really missing out if you don't meet Kammi! She is a loving, sweet companion who enjoys women, men, children and other dogs. Even though she lives in the dog pound she gets to do regular dog stuff and is always trying out new things like going to Dairy Queen, Petco, Pet Smart, doggy events and running general errands. Kambiri has learned sit, paw, down and comes when you call her name. She's confident and nothing bothers or phases her--not even lightning and thunder. She goes out on car rides a couple times a week. She loves drive-thrus! Kammi also gets walked, baths, dresses up in outfits, visits inside houses where she's a perfect angel, etc. She is great in every situation and wants to make friends with almost every dog she meets. Kammi kinda plays "ruff" and bounces off other dogs--some dogs like it and some don't. She really is a great girl though. She had an awesome time playing with a big chocolate pit/lab mix in Old Saybrook one day named Sampson. He's a big, loveable lug that liked bouncing around with her--they really hit it off! She also hung out with Eve, a black chow mix from the Old Saybrook Dog Pound and they enjoyed each other's company as well. They shared a cool beverage and some snacks together. What are you waiting for--at least come and meet her. It's a shame a dog this wonderful is wasting her life at a dog pound! April 9th she went to a doggy event and sported her fuzzy bunny ears and loved it. How many dogs will happily and willingly wear bunny ears? Kambiri went to a doggy event in Oakdale, CT in February. One lady commented on how much Kammi lit up when-ever a child was around. (See picture with her feather boa--Kambiri loves to be dressed up in outfits!). Absolutely everyone there commented on what a nice dog Kammi is--including multiple animal control officers, rescuers, volunteers and the visitors at the event. She was loving, warm, well-behaved and inviting to everyone--well, maybe the cats didn't appreciate her. . . Everyone else got a kick out of her red feather boa--and how accepting she is of being dressed up! She simply gets overlooked because she comes with the pitbull "label" which is really a shame because she is just the nicest dog--obviously a mixed breed so it's not like she's a big diesel buffed out dog. Kambiri is a cutie--she's a sweet, playful tender-hearted girl. She's affectionate, pleasant and attentive--so nice to have around! She's a mother's helper type that likes to stick by your side as opposed to going off and playing without you. Kambiri's name is Nigerian meaning "allow me to join this family". She's spayed, up-to-date on her rabies and distemper combo shots, heartworm negative (and taking monthly preventative) about 55 pounds and about 3 years old. Kammi's a gentle walker. She wags her little tail so much, sometimes I think it might go flyin' off! She loved hanging out, playing and walking with Ralph--a big lab mix but he got adopted. They used to play together in the play yard and went on walks together while being walked by one person--yep two dogs at once. She seems to favor male dogs that have that duhhh. . .dumb as a box of rocks, jock-look on their face and stare at her as if to say, "what do you want to do next" but a low-key female might work out too since Kambiri has enough bounce for two dogs when she gets playing. Since she can get bouncy, she and any bouncy dog is better suited for households with larger children that won't get knocked over. Kambiri's just looking for someone to love her forever! She's only met a couple cats but seems too excited when she sees them so we want her to go to a house without cats. By the way, she's excellent in the car and loves taking baths. If you are an over-the-top pet owner, own a home in CT (or somewhere close to CT) call 860-873-5044 or email Kambiri@aol.com
. After adopting Kambiri, bring her to Jody Humble at Country Dog Grooming for her complimentary grooming!******October 2nd update: Kambiri went to Pumkins for Pooches in Colchester. Everyone loved her! She was such a hit! Kambiri was wearing an orange and chartreuse dragon costume (seen in picture) which didn't even phase her to wear. We were there for four hours with her dressed up in the costume as we stopped to talk to everyone. It was crowded and noisy with tons of people and dogs. Kambiri had a blast! She really didn't seem to know what to make of tiny dogs--they're just too animated for her. She really enjoyed dogs more her size and even played with a few. I was so pround of my Kambiri because she was such a good girl all day! I wouldn't expect anything else from her because she's always a good girl!*****October 30th update: Kambiri went to WVIT Channel 30 and was the featured pet. She did great! She was so well-behaved and wore her Howl-ween costume with pride--even the hat! Then, we went to Petco together--what a good girl! December 10th: Kambiri and Ralph went on an outing in the car together--what a pair! They are just the best dogs!! Ralph instantly went into the snooze mode and slept the whole way. Kambiri sat like a little lady watching the sceenery go by. They went to visit the Old Saybrook Animal Control Officer who just loved them! She thought they were both so sweet and well-behaved. She was also impressed with how well they got along together! Since then, Ralphie has been adopted. Kambiri and I went to visit him in Old Saybrook at Debbie's Dog Grooming--boy was she happy to see her friend. Debbie is Ralph's (now called Quinn) new Mom. He goes to work with Debbie and his new brother Vincent! Give us a call or email. Kammi is so sweet. You'll love her!

PLEASE READ MY STORY AND CROSSPOST IT...MY TIME IS UP...I NEED A GOOD HOME NOW!
It's been almost 2 weeks now since I was picked up from a subdivision in South Fulton County which is currently being developed.
The man who brought me home is a builder. I had appeared in this subdivision about 6 weeks before he brought me home. During those weeks, Loren brought me food and water. I never left the spot where he first discovered me. My days were spent sadly looking down the road. No one knew what I was looking for or waiting for. Perhaps I thought the person who abandoned me would return for me?
Hot sun or rain wouldn't make me leave my spot, so Loren built a lean-to shelter over me to help protect me from the elements. My shyness began to dissipate somewhat and I would lift my head from my little shelter when I heard Loren's truck approach every day. I have a funny way of raising my head with one ear lifted and one down that Loren thinks is comical-- he called me a meercat, because I reminded him of the animals on the show "Meercat Manor."
After living a lonely existence in the subdivision, Loren couldn't stand it anymore and brought me home to Cobb County. He didn't really have a plan, he just knew I needed a better life.
I'm happy in a secure backyard (my current temporary quarters are surrounded by a privacy fence) and I have shade and water. I'm fed twice daily and have put on weight.
My rescuers cannot keep me. They already have 4 dogs of their own and their neighborhood's H.O.A. says they can have no more than that. 2 of the dogs they have are rescue dogs, and they'd rescue hundreds if they were able. They just can't.
So now they're trying desperately to find a home for me. Unfortunately, I've growled at the dogs currently living here, so I have to be kept separate from them. Loren thinks it might be fear and the result of being abused, neglected and confused. I don't seem to be a fighter and I've never shown the slightest tendancy towards human aggression.
I'm alone all day, since both of the humans at this home work full-time jobs. The other dogs are confined to the house during the day (one of them in a crate, since she's still a big puppy and would chew the house to bits if she were loose). When the dogs are let loose in the backyard, I have to be put into a backyard crate while they do their business.
I need a home where I can just be *me*. I'm sure I'd be a wonderful pet for a family that currently has no dogs. I love humans and will shower you with kisses, tail-wags and complete adoration.
Please allow me a chance to live. I will be going to a shelter this week, and my fate is uncertain. My rescuers are heartbroken, but they're trying to give me a chance. They're willing to have me fully vetted if someone will take me.
Contact Loren or Linda at home: (770) 420-1844 or Loren's cell: (404) 348-7545 or Linda @ work: (770) 528-2122.
I'd love to fill your life with love and gratitude ~~ I just need a chance.
It has come to the attention of Turtle Moon Rescue, Inc. (TMR) that the City of Montgomery will be discussing ways to deal with vicious dogs on July 31. As we all know, the targeting of any specific breed of dog in Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) is patently unfair to the owners of breed in question. Cities that have passed such ordinances have generally found them useless in protecting the public. It places undue burden upon responsible dog owners and drives the irresponsible owners and breeders further underground.
Turtle Moon Rescue supports legislation that places the legal burden and accountability onto vicious and dangerous dog owners regardless of the breed. TMR supports the neutering and spaying of dogs by responsible pet owners. TMR opposes the practice of dog fighting in any form. Lastly, TMR opposes the institution of BSL that targets Pit Bulls or any other specific breed.
We are seeking our friends support in opposing this action by writing polite factual letters and emails, or by attendance at the council meeting by those folk who are local to the area. Please let us know if you are able to attend. Also, you will find below a list of people and addresses to which you can drop a letter or email as well as a recent newspaper article . The City is inviting written comments from the public.
