From: Companion Animal Network
Subject: HURRICANE RELIEF DEPLOYMENT ISSUED
To:
Date: Thursday, September 4, 2008, 11:30 PM

++++++++++++   PLEASE CROSSPOST +++++++++++++++

Companion Animal Network (NY, NC, LA) and Kat 5 (GA), two disaster experienced agencies, are launching a joint collaborative effort to assist animal control agencies, rescue groups, and low income pet owners in all hurricane affected Louisiana parishes.

A 24 ft. mobile vet clinic (picture attached) with staffed veterinarians, registered nurses, and vet techs capable of providing on-site surgeries will be traveling the affected region, along with volunteers to help with the clean up of shelters and provide animal care. We are seeking volunteers to join us between Sept. 10 and Sept 21.

We have several Louisiana veterinarians to staff the mobile unit for the entirety of the 11 days it will be in Louisiana. The Mobile Vet vehicle will travel to the outer parishes to provide whatever assistance that is needed, beginning with Terrebonne parish on Sept. 10th.

Unlike many of the other parishes Terrebonne Parish is a vast area with no gas, no electricity at all, no drinkable water, no sewer. Dogs are tied up and left in homes, a picture from Reuters is below. Animal Control is addressing rescuing of the dogs issue. This effort's purpose is ONLY TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO THE AUTHORITIES. Anyone who volunteers with this effort will be obliged to operate as support to the needs of the local animal control agency. YOU MUST BE SELF SUFFICIENT. ALL SUPPLIES NEEDED MUST BE BROUGHT, INCLUDING SPARE GASOLINE TANKS AS THERE ARE NO GAS STATIONS FOR OVER 100 MILES IN TERREBONNE. All those coming can either drive with their own vehicles to Terrebonne Parish animal control and rendezvous with us there or meet us in Fayetteville, NC, where our mobile vet unit is departing from on Tuesday afternoon. Please contact me with your phone number if you can deploy with us. If another hurricane hits, we will on ground to provide relief immediately, but only UNDER THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE AUTHORITIES.

We need vehicles, vehicles, vehicles, large ones. Cages, dog food, cat food, medicine, feeding bowls, bring gas tanks, tarps, sleeping bags, most of all BRING DRINKABLE WATER. There are 7 gallon water jugs for $7 at Walmarts and Sams Clubs. Need a whole bunch of those. PORTABLE GENERATORS ARE NEEDED.

DONATIONS ARE ALSO NEEDED. AS USUAL, THIS IS BEING LAUNCHED WITH PERSONAL MONIES, MANY OF US GOING INTO DEBT ON CREDIT CARDS. Please send donations to Companion Animal Network or Kat 5 or both. Companion Animal Network's web site from which you can make a paypal donation is http://www.companionanimalnetworktv.org/Donation.html.

We will mobilize this Friday and Saturday and Sunday and Monday. Please bring everything. Imagine going to the moon with literally nothing available on site.

A dog is seen chained in a backyard in Houma, Louisiana, as Hurricane Gustav passed through, September 1, 2008. The dog's shelter was heavily damaged during the storm.(Mark Wallheiser/Reuters)   PLEASE HAVE RESCUE WORKER PHONE TO FIND OUT WHERE DOG IS  who took picture is mark@markwallheiser.com      phone   850.294.1290

DONATIONS STILL NEEDED FOR WAVELAND MS. ANIMAL SHELTER EVACUATION!!!
Chris 617-710-5322
Waveland MS Animal Shelter DIRECTOR Lydia Sattler 228-216-6627.

UPDATE FROM CHRIS ..

I am briefly at a computer and readying to return to the Jackson
Coliseum and Pet Evacuation Ctr. after getting the first night's sleep
since Friday. We have approx. 25 dogs/puppies and 6 cats/20 kittens
that are in need of placement. I cannot return them to Waveland which
was a last option but is now no option as Rt.90 in Harrison County is
flooded under 10 feet of water and the Waveland Animal Shelter is one
mile from Rt 90 and west of this.

We have some medical emergencies we are dealing with. Debby Young
from MS just called to tell me one of our dogs is very sick and is
being taken to emergency now. Please pray that it is not something
contagious or deadly.

Our cats and kittens are stressed but responding well in our friends
Martha and Kelly's home in Madison but a few are not the strongest.

I had $261.00 in my PayPal acct. woof@animalrescuefront.net, this a.m. for which I am eternally
grateful but I need more - I guess saving them will always require
more. If any of you have a financial miracle or can spread this
around (I don't have access to my email list) I am so grateful...

Anybody want to adopt a Gustav survivor? The cats and kittens are
killing me they are just so precious....and not to get
melodramatic on you but I have so many human friends that are in this
right now....I am sad and scared for them...please pray or light a
candle or something for all the two's and four's that are in this
mess....

St. Bernard Parish Animal Shelter & Pasado Rescue

PLEASE CROSS POST WIDELY.

Pasado Rescue is on the ground in New Orleans in anticipation of Hurricane Gustav.  They are currently at the St. Bernard Parish Shelter evacuating our animals moving them to a 600-acre farm which will be used as a triage animal aid station.  They are in place to be first responders in the Parish once Gustav makes landfall.

They need our help!  Please view the link below to find out what's needed.

Don't wait til the last minute if you have to evacuate livestock....i have a list of foster homes willing to open their doors to you and travel trailers....mark your phone number on all your livestock with livestock marker....this hurricane if going to be huge!  Cat 4-5!  Be safe...head out now.....i have about 75 foster homes with space available to house your livestock....call me at 318-286-3116 or 318-797-7464.....I had already had plane tickets for Thursday thru Monday to be out of town up north...when I get back the 8th, I will organize our convoy to go into the stricken area and take feed and supplies..I also do not want to drive right into Hanna..so if you would like to donate for the convoy you can go to the website at hopefulhaven.com and click on the paypal link.  If you would like to mail checks, you can make check to Hopeful Haven Equine Rescue and mail to 12193 Providence Rd. Shreveport, LA 71129.  All donations are tax deductible.  This will be needed next Wednesday  when I will leave to head into the hurricane ravaged area....if you would like to join the convoy to head south, please email me.   Collect what you can and store into a horse trailer, trucks, or whatever....get feed stores to donate and neighbors...I will give you the meeting point for next Wednesday.  It will most likely be in Lafayette at the OMNI building on I-49 at exit 7.  Most of you know me and know how hard we worked through Katrina and Rita adopting 52 ranches and supporting their livestock for 6 months while rebuilding was done to get their ranches back in shape to support themselves.  Big organizations such as RISPCA< ASPCA> HUMANE SOCIETY OF LAand BEST FRIENDS, etc. etc. supported our efforts.  We will be there for as many as we can.  It looks like it will be hitting Shreveport with a lot of rain (12 inches they say) .  Everyone hunker down and be safe.  We will be there for you ASAP.  That's a promise!!!!

Calls for help are coming in!

Here are 2 that I personally checked out.

Please crosspost immediately!

If you can open your farm land for people evacuating to house their livestock and have space to put up people evacuating with their livestock, please email me asap and let me know as we prepare for Hurricane approaching.  We will keep an eye on it and let you know the needs as the week progresses.

I only need the evacuation space to be in Northern LA, TX and Southern Ark and Southern OK.  Most people are just trying to get out of harms way for a few days until its safe to return.  Livestock owners are usually a who different breed of people than just people looking for a shelter.  These are cattle and horse owners who are escaping with their livelihood, as we saw in Hurricane Rita.

Please email me asap and let me know if you have  space or land available to house during this time of disaster.  Pray for mercy for all!
