Cautions from the Better Business Bureau

Be Cautious About

Giving Info to Census Workers!!!!

With the U.S. Census

process beginning, the Better Business Bureau

(BB advises people to be cooperative, but cautious, so as

not to become a victim of fraud or identity theft. The first

phase of the 2010 U.S. Census is under way as workers have

begun verifying the addresses of households across the

country. Eventually, more than 140,000 U.S. Census workers

will count every person in the United States and will gather

information about

every person living at each

address including name, age, gender, race,

and other relevant data.

The big question is

- how do you tell the difference between a U.S. Census

worker and a con artist? BBB offers the following

advice:

** If a U.S.

Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a badge,

a handheld

device, a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a

confidentiality notice. Ask to see their identification and

their badge before answering their questions.  However,

you should never invite anyone you don't know into your

home.

** Census

workers are currently only knocking on doors to verify

address

information.  Do not give your Social Security number,

credit card

or banking information to anyone, even if they claim they

need it for

the U.S.  Census.

REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ASK, YOU REALLY ONLY NEED TO TELL THEM HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVE AT YOUR ADDRESS.

While

the Census Bureau might ask for basic financial

information, such as a salary range, YOU DON'T HAVE TO

ANSWER ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION.

The Census Bureau will not ask for Social Security,

bank account, or credit card numbers, nor will employees

solicit donations.  Any one asking for that information

is NOT with

the Census Bureau.

AND REMEMBER, THE CENSUS BUREAU HAS DECIDED NOT TO WORK

WITH ACORN ON GATHERING THIS INFORMATION.  No Acorn

worker should approach you saying he/she is with the Census

Bureau.

Eventually, Census

workers may contact you by telephone, mail, or in person at

home. However, the Census Bureau will not contact you by

Email, so be on the lookout for Email scams impersonating

the Census. Never click on a link or open any attachments in

an Email that  are supposedly from the  U.S.

Census Bureau. For more advice on avoiding identity

theft and fraud, visit www.bbb.org

PLEASE SHARE THIS

INFO WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS. YOU MAY SAVE THEIR

IDENTITY!!

If my avi disappears from your group, please do not think it a personal blow. It is time that is the issue. It is my lack of managing it to be an active member and doing my part that is the issue.

On groups I run. Some will be disappearing through deletion or hand over...but history teaches me that rarely anyone wants to take over my groups when I get to the deletion planning stage.
So if you wish to see the list..
here it is.
The Nest and the Ties that Bind
*The Pacific Northwest~the Breath of Fresh Air (group ownership transferred to Fred H.)
The Ethical Garden of Life~(ethic discussion group)
and quite possibly the St Jude Children's Research group ( not sure yet, as it is a great organization, but this group is at a stand still as no time is being taken to keep it up)
Consumer Information is maybe worth keeping as it is a great idea here. But I am contimplating deleting it too.
Any one who wished to discuss, please chime in!!!
The best to all of you,
  Madartist of Mud (Jacki)

Alright, stop laughing at the monkey picture.
--------------------------------------------------------
When sparks fly one does not want anyone burned.
HUH?
Words are like sparks, sparks to flame.
To put out the flame, one doesn't add more fire does one?
One stands back, accesses the damage and extracts one of the elements required.
In the case of human fires. It is not as easy. We all have voices and some of us use ours louder or more detailed or different from another.
All are fine if well thought of before they are typed.
We are all human and err..YES we do.
But here, if we do or even sometimes we don't but someone else takes it wrong, well all Dante's Inferno goes loose.
Um, to achieve sanity, grasshopper, take a step back, prioritize what is truly important in life and by the time you do that, guess what? You just may be cool enough to let off too big a spark to put out.
-----------------------------------------------
Hmm, am I saying one should just "take it" and pass?
There are reasons we don't at times. A word can cut too deep and scar, believe it or not.
The old adage of turn the cheek can happen, but if both cheeks are smacked, well there has to be a boiling point.
It happens here. The finger pointing starts, the fire gets bigger and it happens on a periodic basis here online.
Use the tools that are given (and within the rules of the site you are on, come on, be ethical about it!) and allow for time for people to deal with it. But they do need to deal with it equally and fairly and not allow it to stew. Be real about it.
Censurship also is not a tool to be used unless clear violations are seen. Saying the wrong thing and sugar coating it with hearts and smiles is still the wrong thing to say.
Abuse is abuse even out of a smiling face.
-------------------------------------------------------
I find I also comment on posts that I should just let fly. Even if I say them with the utmost care not to be mean, I still do it on occasion. But I do it with as much thought as I can. But, alas, The Mad woman is just human, ya know.

What I want to convey here is concern.
Concern for those that fly off the handle. I know how that is...I have a tendancy to do so. I fly off the handle when someone mistreats someone. There I go, flying headlong over the nasty way words are thrown with NO regards to feelings, decency or the practicality of the act.
I have a tip.  Before you type....say it out loud to yourself while thinking like a vulnerable child. Would you act in a way that would harm, emotionally, such a sensitive child? Do you speak in your head before you say it out loud? Try it...it may actually cause you to be more introspective and wiser in the long run! It may cause you to NOT speak what could cause harm to another.
In other words, do not make a fool of yourself if you do not wish others to confirm it to your face.
Show others by your actions there is a compassionate and caring person inside you.
Please care...it looks grand on you!

Ok. This is a test.
You will not be graded and no one will be reprimanded for not getting back to me on this.
This has to do with real beauty.
Now, keep in mind, some of the visuals will not be pretty. But how do I mean visuals? Glad you asked.
I am going to say names you may or may not know...but you are to react to the visuals based on your own insights, inspirations and values.
  Adolph Hitler..
  Mother Teresa..
Susan Boyle (youtube watchers know who I speak of)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luRmM1J1sfg&feature=channel_page
    Ann Coulter..
    Jeffrey Dahmer...
    Audrey Hepburn..
Do you see where I am going with this?
Come on..
If you didn't know who these people are/were how would you base your opinion of them?  Ann Coulter could be thought of, without what her mouth says, as a pretty person, nice, personable looking...but well, a lot of people do not get that reaction when she speaks do they?
Adoph Hitler....well, not a horrible looking person, but in action??? Horrid human being. The UGLIEST human being, along with Mr Dahmer, Manson and Bundy. The Ugliest human is the one that does the worst to others. The ugliest person is the one that kills, maims, takes away freedoms and demeans.
Susan Boyle, has the voice of an angel and a heart that shines through.
Mother Teresa was a beauty through and through, she showed it in actions and words that spoke to our souls and love was her message. How could anyone say she was "ugly"?
I detest the word ugly when spoken against someone one does not know. How do you base that statement, "Oh, she is ugly", if you have not seen what that individual does by their actions? Do you only see the facade? Do you only look at a person's worth by the exterior?  Well, if you do, you will be only esthetically concerned.... a very shallow and empty way of looking and in life you will be disappointed in the long run.
My advice to you, take it or leave it....LOOK DEEPER, my friend...LOOK MUCH deeper.
This blog entry was inspired by Ms Boyle.
