We are dedicating this month's Newsletter to Black History month. Please read through our selected articles below and remember your feedback and questions are important to us. "We always look forward to hearing from you,Thank you!"

Malcolm X. From Darkness to Light
Born in poverty and obscurity on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, Malcolm Little, the fourth child of Earl and Louise Little, rose to become one of the most dynamic Black Nationalist leaders of his time. He felt the sting of racism and was denied opportunity from his earliest years, from most, if not all, of the existing institutions of the day. Without the possibility, the hope, of upward mobility, with less than a ninth grade education, a life of crime was practically inevitable for young Malcolm.  Read more

Reflections on Black History

Black History Month should be of interest to every Muslim, especially in America. It is estimated that upwards to 20 percent of the Africans enslaved in the Americas were Muslim. In some areas, such as the coast of the Carolinas, Georgia, and parts of Virginia, the percentages of Muslims in the slave population may have approached 40 percent. The fact that the search of a random African American, Alex Haley, for his roots led him to a Muslim village in West Africa is indicative of the widespread Muslim presence among the enslaved population here in the Americas. Prince Among Slaves
Prince Among Slaves is a nationally broadcast documentary, which is now a part of a major humanities outreach project. The documentary is a production of Unity Productions Foundation (UPF) in association with Spark Media and Duke Media. It tells the amazing story of an enslaved Muslim Prince from Africa who had an incredible life story.  Read more

How to end Racism

How can it end? Only understanding and education can end racism.
People must realise that God created all humans from one couple. The entire human race is therefore one large extended family.

Personal Story:

My abandonment of Roman Catholicism was spawned by a premature death, my mother's at age 49, on the day before my 22nd birthday. I prayed like crazy for God to spare her, and when He did not, I established a new line of communication. I called God Allah and prayed with my palms cupped (to catch blessings) and my eyes wide open (to keep Allah's creation in sight).

News Item:
World-class fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad hopes to compete in the 2012 London Olympics. If she qualifies, it is believed that she will be the first practicing Muslim to represent the U.S. in women's fencing, and the first American to wear Islamic head-covering while competing. She speaks with host Michel Martin.

this message.

Facebook this.

I invite you to join me at the Occupy AIPAC Summit in Washington this weekend.

I spent seven years in the Middle East.  I lived for two of those seven years in Jerusalem.  I was the Middle East Bureau Chief for the New York Times.  AIPAC does not speak for Jews or for Israel.  It speaks for right-wing ideologues who believe that because they have capacity to wage war, they have a right to wage war.

And just as these elites were too blind and too enamored of their own rhetoric to see what invading Iraq would trigger, so too are they unable to comprehend the regional conflagration that would be unleashed by attacking Iran.

The uprisings from Tunisia to Egypt to Greece to Occupy Wall Street to our gathering outside AIPAC's doors in Washington are all the same primal struggle for justice.

The battle for justice in Middle East is our battle.  It is part of the vast, global battle against the 1 percent.  It is a battle against the fossil fuel industry, the weapons manufacturers, the security and surveillance state, the misuse of public funds that wastes $ 4 trillion on wars that never had to be fought, the trillions more in looted taxpayer money to prop up insolvent banks and swell bloated military budgets, the battle to protect working men and women who are left struggling in the name of "austerity" to save their homes and find work.

Join us at Occupy AIPAC this weekend. Help us make the voices of the 99 percent—the voices of mothers, fathers and children in the squalid refugee camps in Gaza, in the suburbs of Tehran and in the bleak industrial wastelands in Ohio—heard.

World Without War:
Small Change for Peace; Supporting Diplomacy with Iran

"By investing in civilian diplomacy and development, we foster stability around the world to protect our national security and make conflicts less likely."

Department of State budget justification, Fiscal Year 2013

Earlier this month, President Obama submitted to Congress his proposed budget for
2013. Although research shows that preventing wars is 60 times more cost
effective [  ]
than fighting them, the president's budget once again pours hundreds of billions
into war [  ]  while providing relative
small change for peace [  ] .
This edition of World Without War provides our initial analysis on some key
budget issues related to FCNL's foreign policy agenda. More details and actions
will follow as Congress moves into its appropriations work in the months ahead.

In addition, with new legislative initiatives on Iran underway in both the House
and Senate, we bring you two immediate ways you can help prevent another costly

As always, we welcome your feedback [  ]  on our
foreign policy work, and thank you for all your support.

Senior Legislative Secretary, Foreign Policy

Join Col. Wilkerson and FCNL in Lobbying to Prevent War with Iran

In the last few weeks, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to former
Secretary of State Colin Powell, has teamed up with FCNL [  ]
to lobby for diplomacy, and against war, with Iran.

Col. Wilkerson joined FCNL's Kate Gould and Hilary Johnson on lobby visits to ask
members of Congress to support a letter [  ]
introduced by Reps. Keith Ellison (MN) and Walter Jones (NC) calling for
diplomacy with Iran and to oppose legislation in the Senate
[  ] that would press the
United States towards war.

Rep. Garamendi (CA), Col. Wilkerson and Kate Gould

Ask your representative to sign on to the Ellison-Jones letter [  ]
before March 1st to join this clear message of support for a peaceful resolution
of the conflict with Iran.

Already more than a third of the Senate has signed on to a resolution pressing
the administration to abandon diplomacy and support an attack against a "nuclear
weapons capable Iran". During his visits with members of Congress and their
staff, Col. Wilkerson pointed out that the resolution "reads like the same sheet
of music that got us into the Iraq war, and could be the precursor for a war with
Iran," and called it "effectively, a thinly-disguised effort to bless war."

Urge your senators to oppose this dangerous legislation. [  ]

about it, and check out Kate's blog post [  ]

Obama's Budget: What's in it for War Prevention Funding?

The Obama administration released its fiscal year 2013 budget request last week.
For overall State Department and USAID international affairs programs, the
president's request represents a 2.4% increase over last year's levels. However,
the budget includes lower levels of funding for several programs that FCNL
supports to help peacefully prevent deadly conflict. In a positive development,
the budget request reduces the amount of diplomacy and development funding
included in the Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) account [  ] ,
which funds war-related programs. Read more of our analysis on some key budget
accounts related to war prevention funding. [  ]

(What About War Funding?)

While war spending is on the decline, the proportional cost of the war has not
changed. Last week, 88 members of the House [  ] ,
including many of those influential on foreign policy issues, sent a letter to
President Obama supporting an expedited end to the decade-long war in
Afghanistan. As Congress sets the stage to debate the funding request and troop
levels in Afghanistan over the next 18 months, U.S. policy on when military
troops will leave Afghanistan remains unclear. Read more of Matt Southworth's
analysis [  ]
of the budget request for war funding.

Kenya: FCNL Briefs Congressional Staff

Earlier this month, Cassidy Regan, Bridget Moix, and Diane Randall briefed a
group of Senate and House staff on Kenya as a case for peaceful prevention of
deadly conflict [  ] . The
congressional briefing was followed by a conference call with constituents around
the country interested in working with us to ensure U.S. policy supports Kenyan
efforts to prevent a renewal of violence in the lead-up to the country's next
national elections. Read Cassidy's reflections [  ]
on the week of briefings, and let us know if you'd like to join us in this work
and receive regular updates on Kenya by emailing Bridget. [  ]

Afghanistan Whistleblower to Speak at FCNL's Spring Lobby Weekend

We are thrilled that participants at this year's Young Adult Spring Lobby Weekend [  ]
will hear from active duty Army officer Lieutenant Colonel Daniel L. Davis, who
recently risked his career by submitting a classified report to members of
Congress [  ]
documenting the failure of U.S. policy in Afghanistan. He says that senior
leaders of the Department of Defense have intentionally and consistently misled
the U.S. and Congress on the conduct and progress of the war.

It's not too late to register for Spring Lobby Weekend [  ]
and learn from LTC Davis as well as a number of others with direct experience
working to end the war in Afghanistan.

Read this article that LTC Davis published [  ]
in Armed Forces Journal, and for more information, see his full report [  ]
published by Rolling Stone.

Freedom Road: More Miles to Go:
We have reached a critical time in Leonard Peltier's fight for
freedom and yet we have many more miles to go before freedom is won.

You can help us defray the cost of air and ground transportation,
lodgings, meals and other incidental expenses.

How?  Be a "travel buddy".  Purchase travel miles
for $1.00 per mile.  It's easy.  Donate online at .  Click on the
Buy Now button, enter the quantity of miles you wish to purchase,
and provide all other requested information.

 For example:

• Purchase 120 travel miles ($120.00).

• Purchase 60 travel miles for $60.00 (equal to $5.00 per month,
or roughly the price of a cup of coffee at Starbucks).

• You can sponsor any number of miles, in fact-30, or even 12
travel miles (equal to one mile or $1.00 per month).

Note: If you have difficulty accessing the PayPal system, you may
use the Donate button at the top of our home page, enter an amount,
and leave a message: "Miles".

Each of us surely can afford to purchase 5 miles.  So, please
sponsor attorneys and other Peltier representatives as they travel
to Washington, DC, to influence a clemency decision.  Sponsor
attorneys for trips to Coleman, Florida, for meetings with Leonard,
too. (In 2010 alone, such attorney-client visits cost the LPDOC
over $8,000. Due to legal strategies in play, we expect attorney
expenses to climb-potentially double-in 2012.) Please also sponsor
Peltier representatives as they travel to important meetings and
events to help gain support for Leonard's freedom.

If you prefer, you may donate by check or money order.  Put "Miles"
on the memo line.  Mail your donation to LPDOC, More Miles to Go,
PO Box 7488, Fargo, ND 58106.

Your donation will be earmarked for the purposes stated here.

But don't wait. Be a "travel buddy".  Become a travel sponsor, today!

Thank you.

36 Years:
Greetings and blessings to the Peoples of Mother Earth who know
injustice when they see it, stand against oppression where they
find it, and defend the human rights of all Peoples!

Thank you, friends and supporters, for gathering in solidarity with
Leonard Peltier.  As you have done on 04 February, raise your voices
every day.  Do this until freedom is won!

We're not finished.  Today (06 February) and thereafter, there
are solidarity events scheduled in selected areas. For details,
see .

We'll be posting photos, video and other event feedback at .

Also read Leonard's February 6th Statement: .

We want to acknowledge the work of all our event organizers around
the world who donated so much time and energy to make events happen
in their communities.  Thank you for your dedication.  Thank you
also to all of you who took time out of your busy lives to attend
events on Leonard's behalf.  Thank you all for a job well done.

Freedom Isn't Free:
Native American activist Leonard Peltier was wrongfully convicted in
connection with the deaths of two agents of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI). Despite the courts' acknowledgment of FBI and
prosecutorial misconduct in the case, Peltier has been imprisoned
since 1976, currently at the U.S. Penitentiary at Coleman, Florida.

Help us free an innocent man.  Make your $15, $30, or $50 donation

Legal Strategies-The legal team continues to address issues
surrounding parole; a transfer so that Leonard can be closer to
home and family, as well as have access to quality health care;
Executive Clemency; Leonard's conditions of confinement; etc. We
welcome the support of and active participation by the National
Congress of American Indians and several interested Nations who,
with the attorneys and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians,
are developing strategies and advancing the work towards Leonard's
freedom.  Several high-level meetings (some with Administration
officials) are expected to occur in Washington, DC, in early
2012. Our activities will continue to involve work with the
United Nations, as well.  Frequent meetings between Leonard and
his attorneys at USP-Coleman in Florida also will be necessary.
Travel expenses, in particular, are expected to be a significant
part of our budget for 2012.  Please help.

Lobbying the U.S. Congress-As has been done in the past, we're
busy lobbying senators and other Members of Congress to gain their
support for Leonard's freedom, as well as for hearings on the "Reign
of Terror" and other issues related to the Peltier case.  To date,
this activity has been focused on mail and fax communications. To
enhance our effectiveness, a lobbying trip to Capitol Hill and
face-to-face meetings with congressional leaders is planned. You
can make this happen.

Outreach and Public Education-We continue to reach out to luminaries
and activist organizations to galvanize support for Leonard's
freedom.  We've recently received the support of the largest
labor union in Canada, as well as resolutions passed at various
Occupy Movement sites.  In addition, we're conducting outreach to
U.S. colleges and universities to educate the students about the
Indigenous Rights movement and Leonard Peltier's case. Demonstrations
are planned worldwide on the International Day of Solidarity
with Leonard Peltier on 04 February 2012, too. Participate as
you can.  These and more activities will be the highlights of 2012.
Please support these efforts.

We accept checks and money orders made payable to the LPDOC. Please
send your donation to LPDOC, PO Box 7488, Fargo, ND 58106. If you
prefer, you may make a secure donation via credit card by visiting
our Web site at .

Point to and click on the Donate button at the top of our home
page. You also may pledge to make a monthly, quarterly, or annual
donation in the amount you choose at .

Thank you.

Background: Native American activist Leonard Peltier was wrongfully
convicted in connection with the deaths of two agents of the Federal
Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Despite the courts' acknowledgment
of FBI and prosecutorial misconduct in the case, Peltier has been
imprisoned since 1976, currently at the U.S. Penitentiary at Coleman,

The evidence shows that the FBI was the aggressor in the firefight
that occurred on June 26, 1975.  From 1973 to 1976, Indigenous
People on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota were
victims of beatings, drive-by shootings, and stabbings carried out
by local vigilantes who collaborated with the FBI.  Peltier and
other Indigenous activists were forced into a defensive posture
to protect not only their lives, but the lives of others who
were present-elders, women, and children.  Indeed, Mr. Peltier's
co-defendants, tried separately, were acquitted on grounds of

The evidence also clearly shows that the U.S. government's goal
was to orchestrate Mr. Peltier's conviction by any means-including
falsifying extradition documents and intentionally committing fraud
on a Canadian court, as well as suppressing evidence of Mr. Peltier's
innocence during his trial.  By the government's own admission,
the critical part of the prosecution's case against Mr. Peltier
was the ballistics testimony which, years after his conviction,
was discovered to be false.

While most states are currently reducing their prison populations, Illinois has added more than 4,000 inmates to its prisons.  The problem of prison overcrowding is rooted in decades of tough on crime legislation, the war on drugs, and harsh sentencing practices.  These policies have drained Illinois of vital resources, while having only a minimal effect on the crime rate.  Today IDOC is one of the state's largest agencies, with a $1 billion budget.
 $362,000,000 on Phone Calls
An exhaustive analysis of prison phone contracts nationwide has revealed that with only limited exceptions, telephone service providers offer lucrative kickbacks (politely termed “commissions&rdquo to state contracting agencies – amounting on average to 42% of gross revenues from prisoners’ phone calls – in order to obtain exclusive, monopolistic contracts for prison phone services.
These contracts are priced not only to unjustly enrich the telephone companies by charging much higher rates than those paid by the general public, but are further inflated to cover the commission payments, which suck over $152 million per year out of the pockets of prisoners’ families – who are the overwhelming recipients of prison phone calls. Averaging a 42% kickback nationwide, this indicates that the phone market in state prison systems is worth more than an estimated $362 million annually in gross revenue.
60% of Commissary Profits go to the Department of Corrections 523 Salary Reimbursement Fund.  These funds, generated by often over-inflated costs of common good items such as: soap, shoes and winter-wear, do not go to encourage re-entry programs, job-programs, counseling programs, privileges for good behavior, victim relief funds or children of the incarcerated funds.

Offenders are caged, some 23-hours a day, families cannot afford to offer support or aid, many are functionally illiterate, re-entry programs fall flat or short and so many are unleashed into society, unprepared, ill-equipped and more dangerous than when they went in.
The Vigil for True Justice is an initiative formed by several joined community groups and advocacy programs.  It is a 31-day MORATORIUM  (APRIL 1ST THROUGH APRIL 31ST) where inmates, family members, tax payers, citizens, victims’ family members and friends Stand STILL, open their eyes and cease all spending for items that exploit mass incarceration such as Phone Calls by Consolidated, Unnecessary commissary items and Vending Companies such as Ace Vending.
Administrators of the Vigil will subsequently support legislation for goals such as:
 More reasonable communication pricing
 Better Vending Pricing
 Better Commissary Pricing
Better allocation of funds for effective family services and Restorative Justice for Victims' Families
Meritorious Good Time - HB 3899
 Alternative Sentencing
 Electronic Home Monitoring
 Step Down Programs for Re-Entry
 Job Placement Programs for Ex-Offenders
 Travel Relief for Family Members
We will continue to stand each year / twice a year until the corporations that continue to profit from mass incarceration listen and find ways to profit on prosperity rather than poverty.
Let us all join together and send a message that we will not continue to fund a broken system.  We want incarceration to work as intended by the constitution.  To promote public safety and restore useful citizenship.

All supremacists from all conspiracies within all demographics, who all collaborate with the white supremacy, must stop dictating their demographics embrace the devolutionary direction of the corporate structure’s convolution; and support allowing kids to be kids, and young women to become women, at minimum, before they’re introduced to any and all forms of corporate whoring.  As well, female supremacists can’t collaborate with black and white supremacists in gradually taking away women’s reproductive healthcare and rights, as well as choice; the price they’ll pay when they do will be much greater than the crumbs they get off the republicans plate.  Happy Rhodes sings, “words weren’t meant for cowards, be brave…“; write on.  They say, the brave are those who stand when standing is hard; I say it’s when you only stand, "all endowed with inalienable rights..." (regardless of the fact that the dino-in-chief has taken away any and all rights from everyone except himself with the NDAA law, for all intents and purposes), yet, we only have the ones we exercise; remember the constitution republicans- that includes women.  As well, I've said the united suck of assassins is a country of extremists, supremacists of every conspiracy within every demographic, conspiring with the republican conspiracy (which is why the remocrats keep winning even though they're only 20 % of the population, the dempublicans keep building them up), including academic, supposed Christian (the 'good cop', some of the civil wrongs movement, 'bad cop', all republicans, S.S Tea Partiers, our taliban and al-queda), supposed Sikh, LGBTQ, etc.; Machiavellians and uber-ones, at minimum fascists to nazis, one and all- it's not even a possibility that the evolution's direction can stand against the corporate structure's convolution's devolutionary one, at this rate.  The republicans final solution, to steal everything from everyone through the extermination to extinction of humanity and large mammals, technocracies of the world have permanently altered weather cycles causing the increase in the amount and severity of supposedly natural disasters, yet, we know all life are necessary threads in the fabric of life, we can’t allow to be torn asunder. Extermination of humanity, large mammals, determined by the republican conspiracy, globally, millions of birds falling from the sky, fish dead in the water, etc., must be heeded now; before they sukceed in dictating the extinction of humanity and large mammals- as well as the destruction of the earth, and, possibly, all life as you know it. Life is indivisible, struggling with global unnecessary unending war is necessary; although, the intellect can‘t lead, for the life doesn‘t follow. Remember a lesson from WWII, if you’re not taking bullets, you’re making them, and fascism is the last step before the complete backslide to Nazism, possession is only nine-tenths of the law in a poverty stricken mind, centrism among extremists is Nazism, don't be it or allow it; Ghandi said “…be the change you wish to see in the world“, and Castaneda said, “discipline is the art of feeling awe”, etc.. Turn 360 degrees around, back to the evolution, dispelling the convolutions devolutionary direction; and getting back to the real future, we'll only have if you do! By abolishing the over use of fossil fuels (vaporizing the spirit and sucking the very blood of the earth, like the remocrat conspiracy does through their psychic terrorism, the suck, assassinating their only real competition, the real left, the evolution), and the devolutionary direction dictating the permanently altered weather cycles, 100 year storms happening every ten, 10,000 year cataclysmic events happening every thousand, 100,000 year destroying all life events, like alteration of magnetic poles location, their reversal, degradation of our orbit around the sun, happening every ten thousand, etc., and being most alive! Don't be republicated into mirror supremacist images of the white supremacy, being woman, black, supposed christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Asian, Atheist, male, LGBTQ, age, etc., supremacists isn't equality, there's no equality of nazism; destruction to extinction aren't profit, pleasure, nor power- Audre Lourdes said, "you can't take apart the man's house with the man's tools.”.  The premeditated mass-murder of 8 billion people isn’t allowable, opinion, freedom of religion, choice, civil liberty, a right, equality, American dreaming or way of life, nor cool. The dreamers must awaken, unlike the Dino-In-Chief’s response to the tea partiers, which is tripartisanship, centrism, caving, the real left’s is fku+theshtthatshatu, as it should be; thank goodness! They can’t sociologically program somas of illimitable potential, that are indivisible, as life is, in order to republicate automatons for la machine, if you, don‘t agree, resist, refuse, be more so. Popularityism=vampirism=cannibalism=centrism supremacy=fascism=extermination=nazism=extinction.  Thanx.  Goodbye.

Matutinally Yours,
