Rose's Sharebook 

Sunlight trickled through the sky
by the hollow trunk
of an ancient oak
unable to take refuge
in it's twisted heart.
insect carcusses
lost from years gone by
within the smell
of leaves that died
too numerous for human eyes

scrawny claws rustled  
through morbid compost
a scabby balding skull
emerging, golden and glorius.
jet black wings shimmered
the magpie sqwauked
squinting at the menagerie
of woodland traffic.

When another puny feather
fell into gravity to float
its eyes happened upon
a frog far below
that merely wandered
to and fro

while ants rushed through the foilage
as dear searched for fungi
mice scurried past
where rabbits rumaged
and the fox was acting shy.
Yet there the frog was pacing so
while many othes come and go.

magpie moved a little closer
slightly out of sight
looking frog up and down
curious of his plight.      
then frog let out a whimper
so difficult to hear
magpie moved a little closer
still closer was his ear

he muttered of the fire
and cursed the acid rain
he pondered his desire
to free the world of pain
he cried for flatened forests
and exclaimed his disdain
shouted of concrete paths
his anger did not feign

magpie flew to his side
and gazed
curious
frog seemed unphased
then swelled with pride
at the balding magpie
who does not hide

I love this prompt - reminded me of an african folklore cartoon that they show on tv... and of books of strange folk tales from Norway and ones of the Maori.

I tried to cheat with the rhyming at first... so it was redrafted... xx
